came to the page to find the meaning behind castiel's name...wasn't on the page, found elsewhere that the meaning is "shield of god" from hebrew (see also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theophory_in_the_Bible) intended to add that to the opening paragraph by the pronunciation but found i lack the permission to do so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tuseroni (talkcontribs) 04:24, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Looking good

After you finish what you're doing, you should ask Leftorium if he would continue reviewing it. He's usually pretty cool about GA stuff. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 20:18, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I've combined the background and powers section. Do you think it works well? Ophois (talk) 20:24, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's good enough for a review. One thing that could use a little work is providing a little background on characters who don't have their own page. Here's some examples. Basically short notes that Lilith is a demon in case the reader hasn't heard of her, Mary Winchester is Dean's mother, etc. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 20:52, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I watch the show but I don't think I don't remember the specifics that well. If we could say more than just Lilith and Azazel are demons, that would be cool. I can't remember if she's his henchman, or if she work for Lucifer and he's against Lucifer, or whatever it was. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 21:05, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Quick note. In the plot section, you'll need to note where these events occur. Per WP:WAF, it shouldn't read like a real life biography (i.e. that it really happened). To correct this, you would adjust sentences to read more like, "In the season four episode 'In the Beginning', Castiel attempts to discover the endgame of Azazel's plan, and sends Dean back in time to when Azazel made a pact with Mary Winchester, Dean's mother."  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 11:26, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was asked to do a GA review of the article but I'm really busy this weekend and I have some other stuff I need to do on Wikipedia. If it hasn't been reviewed by the end of next week, I'll review it then. Thanks, TheLeftorium 19:52, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. Ophois (talk) 20:04, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not Christian

The mythology used in the show is not Christian - or at least not Christian alone. It covers believes from the Abrahamic religions eg Judaism, Islam and Christianity. In fact the only part that is specifically Christian are the references to the Book of Revelation. Missyjack (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 02:33, 17 January 2011 (UTC).[reply]

It is based more on Judaism's mystical books than conventional Christianity. There are some Christian Bibles that do however retain references and books now stripped from the Bible. Also, many Gnostic Christian beliefs will feature them as well as the Essenes. I think Missyjack hits the nail on the head. Hilly7 (talk) 08:20, 2 January 2012 (UTC)hilly7[reply]

Wait, didn't Gabriel reference Jesus when he confronted Lucifer, when he mentioned "dad brought the new baby home and you couldn't take it."? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.187.137.31 (talk) 08:32, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article doesn't say that Supernatural only covers Christian mythology. It says that Castiel was used to introduce the theme of Christian mythology to the series. Ωphois 18:42, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Talking to Lucifer, Gabriel refers humans as "dad's" "new baby", since whole Apocalypse story starts with Lucifer's refusal to accept humankind as something worthful. Any connection to Jesus particularly was not mentioned in the Supernatural archangels arc in any season.94.179.205.192 (talk) 15:48, 23 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Supernatrual draws on generic stories from Abrhamic traditions and throws in some "Christian" buzzwords, but it has nothing to do with Christian theology. It could very well be argued that the show draws on Islam more than Christianity, since Islam has much more to say about the actions of named angels in its scripture. The character Castiel in no way introduces any tenants of Christian theology, and the referenced article does not support the argument that he does. Since there is no basis for that claim, it should be removed. TheReverantOne (talk) 15:13, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Clean-up

The Plot and Characterization sections are written very in-universe; the Plot section could stand to be trimmed and the subsection headings are unnecessary--if any subsections are needed, they should be titled Season 4, Season 5, etc.--and the first paragraph for Characterization gets unwieldy and uncited. Lastly, the information box has incorrect information (i.e. for Nicknames it lists God--which is what he declares himself as at one point, but not his nickname--and Jimmy Novak--which is his vessel's name, but not his nickname--while leaving out actual nicknames, such as Meg almost always calling him Clarence) and the "(Previously Angel)" for Species looks unprofessional to me--I'd suggest changing it to "Formerly angel." Sorry for the hassle, thanks for any help.50.89.225.132 (talk) 23:27, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also it is spelled 'Cas' not 'Cass'Archangelhour (talk) 17:07, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed it to 'Cas'. I'm not familiar with the series but search seems to confirm it. Feel free to revert me if I'm wrong. Me, Myself & I (talk) 17:44, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Plot

Hello again. Sorry to bring it up again, but this is really bugging me. The subheadings in the Plot section really ought to be removed. First of all, there's only one to two paragraphs per subheading, so they aren't even necessary, and secondly, it makes it look more like a fan wiki article. If subheadings are truly needed, it should be Season 4, Season 5, Season 6, etc., such as are on the Sam and Dean articles. Cheers!--50.89.225.132 (talk) 05:51, 14 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The nickname 'Cas' should be changed to 'Cass'[1] Javergracia (talk) 02:41, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done An image is not a reliable source. For all we know it could be photoshopped. A reliable secondary source is required. --Ebyabe talk - Repel All Boarders08:26, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Ebyabe: Sorry, that Tweet is from the Actor who plays the Castiel character so I thought is was a reliable source. Here is the actor who plays Castiel, Misha Collins, showing the script in a Facebook livestream[2] specifically about the spelling of the nickname showing that in the script it is spelled "Cass" and not "Cas", shown at the 4 minute mark. - Javergracia (talk) 02:14, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
But Misha is a notorious prankster. It's entirely possible he did this just for fun. After all, he wanted to play more of a d-bag in The French Mistake. Again, something from the showrunners themselves, or a secondary source, would be better. --Ebyabe talk - Welfare State04:40, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Eric Kripke asked for questions on Twitter, which he would answer through the @vertigo_comics account, and answered the question "why is Castiel's nickname spelled Cass not Cas?" stating that "I think 'Cass' just looks cooler on the page. And 'Cas' might sound like 'Caz.'"
It also appears as "Cass" in the Supernatural novels, Official Companion books, and the Season 7 Episode 1 and Season 8 Episode 7 Promos. Finally, in Season 12 Episode 7, Dean gets a call from Castiel and the caller ID shows "Cass" as the name.
Sorry again and thanks for the information and advice. - Javergracia (talk) 06:06, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Theology" or "mythology"

The header states the character introduces "Christian theology" to the series, but under "Development," the article states it was for introducing "Christian mythology." So which is it? The two terms are not interchangeable and they point to different pages. 04:30, 2 September 2017 (UTC)

Of course, given the bizarre and completely fictional way the creators treat matters related to the character, which is based neither on Christian mythology or theology, is either word fitting? Simply using words like "angel," "God," "Heaven," "Lucifer," etc., does not automatically make the material Christian in any way, shape, or form. 69.34.54.24 (talk) 04:40, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dean and cass aren’t Partners and Castiel is not homosexual, he is an angel he doesn’t have a gender also dean isn’t bisexual. So just correct that please.

Cas is indifferent to all sexual orientation and if you have watched the show he is in love with dean. Dean reciprocated that love of Castiel he mourned cas' death like a widower in season 13 when cas was in the empty, if you paid attention and not be homophobic you would see it. Dean and Cas love each and they are canon. Table spnstaff (talk) 07:00, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In “family” section there is a listing for Dean Winchester (partner). This is canonically incorrect, the characters were friends, not romantic partners. Page is locked seemingly because of multiple edits regarding this exact back and forth. In fact, the majority of the family section is canonically incorrect. Character was an angel, family was God and other angels. Character was never “adopted” nor adopted any other character. Jack is his nephew of sorts. While Meg was indeed a mutual love interest, she was not family. Castiel had no canonic significant others/partners. Adis723 (talk) 16:24, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

 Done --Paultalk15:37, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please delete "Dean Winchester (adopted family, love interest, deceased) Sam Winchester (adopted family, deceased)" from the family section. Castiel had close friendships with these characters, but was not adopted. Castiel and Dean were not romantic partners, though Castiel did confess to being in love with Dean. The source for this information is the show itself. Buttbert (talk) 18:38, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

At no point is Dean referred to as Cass partner in the show or any canon reference made to this. In Cass final scene he tells Dean he loves him which may be interpreted as romantic love if the viewer chooses but Dean does not reciprocate nor in any way agree.
