Sardar Udham is a 2021 Indian Hindi-language biographical historical drama film based on the life of Sardar Udham Singh, a revolutionary freedom fighter highly known for assassinating Michael O'Dwyer in London to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar.[1] Starring Vicky Kaushal as Singh, the film is directed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by Rising Sun Films in collaboration with Kino Works.[2] The film premiered on 16 October 2021 on Amazon Prime Video.

Sardar Udham , a biopic of Sardar Udham Singh was officially announced on 4 March 2019, starring Vicky Kaushal and directed by Shoojit Sircar, who called it his dream project.[3]

Shooting kicked off in London in April 2019, and also took place in Russia, United Kingdom, Europe, Ireland, Germany and India.[4] The film was wrapped up on 27 December 2019 in Europe.[5]

The film score was composed by Shantanu Moitra and produced by George Joseph.[7] All tracks are instrumental.

Release

Initially announced for theatrical premiere on Gandhi Jayanti 2020, the release date of Sardar Udham was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[8] After several postponements, Amazon Studios acquired the film's distribution rights and released the film on 16 October on Amazon Prime Video.[9]

Reception

Anupama Chopra of Film Companion wrote, "Two hours and forty-two minutes long, the film finds its beating heart only when the Jallianwala Bagh portion begins." [10]
