NPOV ?

This article reads like it was written by the guy's public relations agent.

Requested move

Mário de Andrade used to be a redirect to Mário Pinto de Andrade, an Angolan writer, but all articles linking to it were clearly about Mário de Andrade the Brazilian poet. So I created a page Mário de Andrade (Brazil) and changed the redirect at Mário de Andrade to point there. But ideally, given that the poet is by far the most famous person with that name, he should be at Mário de Andrade, rather than the redirect. Chick Bowen 00:19, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been renamed as the result of a move request. Mário de Andrade (Brazil) to Mário de Andrade –Hajor 18:41, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Major expansion

I'm currently expanding and rewriting this article. If you'd like to make changes, feel free, but things might get moved around a lot, so your best bet is probably to list anything that needs work here and I'll take care of it. Thanks. Chick Bowen 00:17, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Major expansion pretty much finished--the structure should remain as it is. Chick Bowen 03:11, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

AFD tag

I removed the {{afd}} tag from this article as it did not belong, it was added by a user who has been warned for vandalism, I apoligize if I stepped out of line according to WP:DP  J\/\/estbrook       04:35, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

I reverted the infobox. In general I'm not crazy about them, as I don't think they add much, and I don't see why we would want all of our articles to look the same. This one was particurlarly awkward because the image caption is so long (I looked at in 800x600 and it was even worse). If there's a particularly reason why it would be beneficial we can discuss, but if not, my own preference would be to leave it without one. Chick Bowen 02:41, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The infobox isn't necessary, but now there is no picture of Mário de Andrade on the article, not even the Segall painting. Macgreco 19:55, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The fair use of the Segall painting has been challenged by another editor. I'm looking for more information about the painting and Mário's role in it, but for now I've removed it. Chick Bowen 04:18, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox redux

I see that someone has once again tried to add an infobox. The caveat here is that I am against them in general. But this article shows particularly clearly the problem with them. The recent attempt lists all of the occupations that are mentioned in the lead; I'll admit that I put them there in the first place, but in prose, not set out by themselves where they do nothing but confuse. Obviously Andrade is first and foremost a poet, as the lead makes clear, and as the infobox did not. The infobox also listed the pen name Mário Sobral, a name he used very briefly, for one early book that got very little attention; to list it right under his name is misleading. Isn't it better--clearer, more accurate--to provide all this information in prose, where it can be weighted appropriately and given its proper context, where we can say when he used the pen-name and when he dropped it, and when he lived in São Paulo and when he didn't and why he left and came back, where we can make clear why someone who never worked as a musician was educated at a music school: where, in short, we can provide a biography rather than a series of isolated facts that don't add up to an account of the man? Chick Bowen 06:53, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

However, we could use File:Ridiculous Bet in Teffé.jpg as the lead image. I hadn't recognized it as Mário because of the shade of the hat, but I now see it is a self-portrait. Chick Bowen 07:01, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Photo of Mário de Andrade added to infobox

I was always bothered by the lack of a photo of Mário de Andrade in his own article so I uploaded one to Commons. I asked the kind folks in the Graphic labs to remove its background and other stuff. It seems another user was faster than I and added this photo. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it. Regards, --Lecen (talk) 11:47, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
