This Article Needs a Criticism Section.

This article seems to be rather one-sided, and should have a criticism section for balance. 'Black Pride' is often misused by Black supremacists to promote racism against non-Blacks, and this should be reflected in the article. ICE Bullet (talk) 01:49, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why this should be split

There are three terms: Black Pride, Black Power, Black is Beautiful

Black is beautiful is about healing the injuries of 200 years of racism in America. It is not a "pride movement" The "see also" on this page lists other pride movements. Black power refers explicitly to a movement tied to the black panthers.

This article needs to be split because Black pride and Black is Beautiful occurred at different times and had different goals (involving different people) Black is Beautiful is a huge topic and will need a lot of space anyway. Trust me. futurebird 12:30, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is quite old now but you asked us to "Trust you" in 2007 that the Black is Beautiful movement section would need a lot of space? It is no bigger than Black Pride is now, I have moved that the pages be merged and/or stemmed. --152.228.136.72 (talk) 20:18, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Two Different Phrases, Two Different Connotations

"Black Pride" is a spirit, not a denouncing of anyone elses own heritage or person. "Black Pride" was celebrated for the conviction of minorties that fought for change in the United States. That is something that should never be over-shadowed by someones personal feelings. If people understood that there would be no controversy over the two phrases. "White Power" has been used to subdue not only black people but any race that isn't white or anglo orgin. There are too different conotations of these phrases. "White Power" has been used to show the spirit of having hate towards anyone that is from a different background. Be proud of who you are, but know who you are and what you represent. It's just too bad that "White Power" has been proclaimed to the biggest hate group in the world. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.233.49.18 (talk) 22:37, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An interesting diatribe to explain a mindset mired in hypocrisy. The connotations of <insert colour> Power/Pride seems to be the preoccupation of one particular group today (and FYI 'black/white' is a societal (prima facie) construct - it is not an over-arching genetic identifier for a race of people - most 'black' Americans herald from Niger-Congo peoples and many 'black' Africans are genetically more similar to European and Semitic peoples than they are to Niger-Congo peoples). For any group of people to evaluate the world solely through the the colour of a persons skin is not particularly healthy (as should be evident by now)! Celebratory black/white racism is not just inaccurate, it is weird! 2001:8003:70F5:2400:C1A1:88C:BF59:4142 (talk) 05:57, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced additions

Wikipedia articles are intended to summarize what independent reliable sources say about a subject. If you have material to add, it must cite reliable sources or it will be removed. - SummerPhD (talk) 22:57, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Revert please

The edits of Ylevental need to be reverted (except for the AfD tag of course) because they can and should be easily sourced. 203.15.226.132 (talk) 00:17, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The latest edit by Ylevental is - I regret to be blunt here - racist. It's consistent with the assertion made on the AfD that he simply nominated this article for deletion on the basis of just not liking it - with an edit summary on the talk page of White pride here supporting this assertion. I ask that it be reverted and that a warning be given to Ylevental. 203.15.226.132 (talk) 05:17, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please restore the information removed by User:Ylevental most recently as of this request as he has failed to give enough time for sources to be found. Removal is in bad faith as indicated by his failed AfD application on this page (see the top of this talk page) and associated evidence within that AfD. 203.15.226.132 (talk) 00:11, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I restored it but we do need to find some sources. I hope Ylevental will join the discussion below. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 02:39, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Starting a section to help find sources for the section removed in this edit. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 02:39, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To address the issue of lack of citations for the time being, I've added a tag to the article requesting more sources. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 02:42, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think a check of the WP articles on MLK, Malcolm X, Randolph and Carmichael will help in this regard. Ditto the songs, especially the first and last. They'll all be sourced there and there's no reason not to add the same sources here - in context on course. 203.15.226.132 (talk) 02:52, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. The music paragraph is probably WP:OVERCITE by now. I'll check back tomorrow and work on the slogan paragraph if it needs more work. Hopefully we can split this into sections eventually. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 03:11, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
At the moment I don't think it's possible to over cite if we can just stop Ylevental from being deletion happy. Good work! 203.15.226.132 (talk) 03:38, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a source to the statement about black pride being linked to the civil rights movement. It's not a great source, but then again, it seems obvious that pride in being black would increase as more people spoke out against discrimination. I'm sure more sources can be picked out from related articles (such as Black Power movement and African-American Civil Rights Movement (1954–68)). clpo13(talk) 18:55, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Lead sentence

Starting discussion about the lead sentence. Recent edits have tried to qualify "dominant white culture", but the source used does not make any qualifications. Would you prefer "hegemonic" perhaps, as that would be more accurate (though isn't the term used by the source). EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 17:45, 20 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 1 June 2016

It needs to be normalized with White pride article on wikipedia with additions that black pride is used by "organizations to signal their racist or racialist viewpoints"

These double standarts here are disgusting Forequalityofall (talk) 09:50, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: as you have not requested a specific change in the form "Please replace XXX with YYY" or "Please add ZZZ between PPP and QQQ".
More importantly, you have not cited reliable sources to back up your request, without which no information should be added to, or changed in, any article. - Arjayay (talk) 10:00, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The picture that is present in this article has individuals that are incorrectly labeled under it. Carmichael is not on the mural. Crazymantis91 (talk) 22:24, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Removed entry from lead tagged "dubious - discuss"

"black supremacy" as a related topic (tagged dubious)

It's uncited and its been there for a while with no discussion. Suggest discussing putting it back in rather than leaving the entry there and waiting for a discussion to happen about its removal.Edaham (talk) 04:10, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The group black lives matter and antifa need to be added to the list of radical groups Louisiananative2 (talk) 17:43, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You have provided no reliable sources labeling these groups "radical". Justeditingtoday (talk) 18:07, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Misattribution on Photograph

There is a photograph of Malcolm X, Ella Baker, Martin Luther King Jr., and Frederick Douglass on a mural in Philadelphia which has text under it reading: "Stokely Carmichael, Martin Luther King, Frederick Douglass, and Malcolm X on mural in Philadelphia"

They have taken out Ella Baker and added in Stokely Carmichael who does not appear in this mural.

Joshpaulmitchell (talk) 14:45, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Changed. Thank you. -Lopifalko (talk) 15:08, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Double Standard Issue?

I will not take any sides here, but regarding this article, along with White pride. Why does this article take on a more positive correlation for black pride, whereas white pride is associated with Nazism? Again I am choosing no sides here, both sides have had their positive and negative movements. However, Wikipedia takes on a Neutral Point of View for any articles created, so it would only be fair to show all the factual elements within a political movement; regardless of any bias. 131.123.50.51 (talk) 20:31, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As your NPOV link notes, we have to follow the sources in terms of tone and balance. DMacks (talk) 03:45, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It would seem obvious to sane people that revering race inevitably leads down some very dark paths. There is the perception in some circles that attributing the sins of the past to a perceived racial identity requires a 'balancing' act, to the effect that the racialised sins of the present are tolerated or deliberately "not seen". This insane logic seems to preoccupy the minds of societies 'intelligent' people fixated on mono-variant analysis (which is why, they inevitably end up being that which they claim to despise - racist)! Much of academia (and wikipedia) is occupied by this type of mindset and I hope that answers your question as to why these two topics are treated differently. 144.134.131.186 (talk) 05:01, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
