Serious omission: genocide of indigenous peoples

The article lacks any recognition that North America was already populated when English settlers arrived. They and especially subsequent waves just removed any that got in the way, by force of arms and biological warfare. Perhaps most of it happened after 1776, but the pattern of treating native Americans as untermensch had already been going on for a hundred years or so. It seems to me extraordinary that the article has not one word to say on the subject.--Red King (talk) 11:20, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Red King here--this should be in the lead and a large section devoted to it. It was well underway prior to 1776, and it has continued after such colonization. This page needs to reflect that in some manner in order to be accurate. There are numerous sources for this argument. --Hobomok (talk) 19:27, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I added "Approximately 30,000 Algonquian peoples lived in the region at the time." to the Jamestown mention in the lead, and further in the article with citation. Not sure if the best way to add this context, but I think it's a start. Pyrrho the Skeptic (talk) 18:59, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
