Merger proposal
I propose that Anesthesiologist be merged into Anesthesiology. I think that the content in the Anesthesiologist article can easily be explained in the context of Anesthesiology, and the Anaesthesiology article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Anesthesiologist will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. Page name
Why does this page use “anesthesiology” when the article states this spelling is only used in North America and China? Should it not be moved to “anaesthesiology” as the most common English language spelling per the article? Cavalryman V31 (talk) 15:34, 29 June 2019 (UTC).
Requested move 9 July 2019

Anesthesiology → Anaesthesiology – Per above, the article itself states this spelling is only used in North America and China, whilst “anaesthesiology” is the most common English language spelling globally. Cavalryman V31 (talk) 18:26, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per MOS:RETAIN and WP:TITLEVAR. We don't switch the varity of English used in an article willy-nilly. Calidum 00:17, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
- Comment Do you have evidence for the claim that
“anaesthesiology” is the most common English language spelling globally
? ngrams suggest otherwise. Colin M (talk) 02:00, 10 July 2019 (UTC) - Oppose per Calidum. Unless someone can show strong national ties for this topic, it should stay where it is. CThomas3 (talk) 03:12, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per RETAIN. The article used this as its original title. Strong national ties are the standard for ENGVAR moves. Absent of those, retain it. Primergrey (talk) 14:24, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per above. We don't switch from one English spelling to another without a good reason. Rreagan007 (talk) 03:18, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose WP:RETAIN. No reasons to switch. Viztor (talk) 12:49, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
I removed all references to "dental anesthesiology." Anesthesiology is a medical specialty. So-called "dental anesthesiologists" are not trained in medicine, and thus calling them anesthesiologists would be incorrect. KhanzotChinev (talk) 16:09, 27 June 2021 (UTC)
"We don't switch from English spelling" indeed, what nonsense. In England, the home of English, it is "anaesthesiology". Only Americans spell the word incorrectly.2A00:23C6:7E12:2000:C7C:9E4A:81C0:669 (talk) 11:13, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedians. I am a 4th year medical student at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and as part of a course I have endeavored to try to improve on this particular article. I think that there is a strong foundation of information here, but I hope that I can help to make it more clean, clear, and informative. This is my first time editing a Wikipedia article so I am very open to your feedback, suggestion, and tips.
My workplan is as follows:
1. I want to add significantly to the "History" section, as I feel that Anesthesiology has a very unique and interesting history that people should know about, but also because I think that this section can effectively absorb much of what is currently written under "Scope" and "Terminology" 2. When I look at the Manual of Style/Medicine-related articles outline it doesn't include "Terminology", so I wonder if the information from that section would be better suited within one of the other sections entirely. 3. I believe the "Scope" section should include more about the various subspecialties of anesthesiology, particularly as these are relatively new and rapidly developing fields. 4. I want to add additional information to the "Treatments" section including some pictures showing some of the primary tools/procedures of contemporary anesthesiology. 5. I think that the information in the "Training" section needs to be standardized as currently some of the countries have a lot of information and detail while others have only a single sentence. There is also a need for more citations within the "Training" section to ensure that the information is up to date. 6. I notice that there is no section for ethical and medicolegal issues, and I wonder if I might be able to find something pertinent to put in this section that would help to strengthen it.
I would love to hear what you think about my workplan and I look forward to doing my best and hopefully elevating the quality and completeness of this page!
