Dutton Park is a suburb of Brisbane, Australia located 5km south of the Brisbane CBD. The suburb is predominantly residential, with some light industrial and commercial areas.

Attractions

The suburb is dominated by Dutton Park, which includes a large recreation area and former public cemetery. The former Boggo Road Gaol is also located in the suburb.

History

Between 1901 and 1969 the suburb was served by electric trams. Tram services operated along Gladstone Road [1] and Annerley Road, with a connecting line to the Ipswich Road tram depot along Cornwall Street. Between 1912 and 1927 a tram depot was located in Lang Street (now Tamar Street).

Transport

By Bus, Brisbane Transport bus routes 196, 197 and 198 served the suburb along Gladstone Road. Annerley Road to the City (via the Busway) is served by routes 105, 107, 108, 109, 116 and 202.

With the opening of the Eleanor Schonell Bridge on Sunday 17 December 2006, construction of the Boggo Road Busway started in mid-2006 and is due for completion mid-2008 along with the development at Boggo Road Gaol Precinct starting in 2007, the local area is being transformed. Significant changes to Annerley Road, changes in buses and vehicles travelling through the area, a bus tunnel to the new bridge and the possible destruction of a smaller nearby park have some residents concerned. It has been speculated that construction and operation of the North-South Bypass Tunnel will create further alterations to this suburb's character.

By Train, Dutton park is served by the Dutton Park Railway Station
