Neronga (ネロンガ, Neronga) is a fictional monster, or kaiju, that first appeared in episode 3 of Tsuburaya Productions' 1966 series Ultraman.

Overview

Name

Allegedly, Neronga gets his name from the first name of the Roman emperor Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, with the "-nga" suffix added at the end.

Development

With a minimal budget and a tight schedule, Tsuburaya Productions recycled many pre-used monster suits to create new monsters. After its portrayal as Pagos in Ultra Q, Toho's Baragon suit was modified once again for a new monster. Tohl Narita drew the concept art for the new monster, called "Neronga," and the Baragon/Pagos suit was used to create Neronga's suit. Changes include a yellow back, a new head with two antennae, and a single row of fin-like spikes on the back. After the suit's scenes were filmed, it would go on to be modified into two more Ultraman monsters: Magular and Gabora. Before returning the Baragon suit to Toho, Tsuburaya Productions temporarily reconstructed the suit back to Neronga for a few publicity photos.
