Merger

[edit]

The current division of Ranking member and Ranking minority member is based upon the incorrect assumption that "ranking member" always/correctly refers only to a member of the majority party and that "ranking minority member" always/correctly refers to the ranking member of the minority party. In fact, the distinction is not so clear cut, as at least one Congressional Committee (the United States Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs) and at least one State (Iowa) use "ranking member" to refer to the ranking member of the minority. Given the overlapping usage, addressing both sets of definitions is better accomplished in a single article. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 21:42, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Examining the article more carefully, it actually seems like the usage described at "ranking minority member" is actually the more common definition of "ranking member." --Philosopher Let us reason together. 22:13, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Missing definition of "senior"

[edit]

The article doesn't describe/define/link the term "senior" as used in this context. Is it age, length of service, length of continuous service, time served on the committee, position in party hierarchy, what? 86.133.60.73 (talk) 02:47, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
