Don't worry Playa de las Americas is what in English would be called a dump. I know as I live in Tenerife away from the sex and drugs and booze of Las Americas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.156.178.15 (talk) 16:24, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Sister cities
The Sister cities section does not have any references to support it. It reads like a random collection of cities and countries. It may well be factual, but I could not find any supporting sources so far. Would the original author please support his/her assertions?, else the section will have to be removed. -- Alexf(talk) 11:46, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

It will entail a lot of work cutting it down, so it should be split eventually to retain the full work once condensing is done. Nothing wrong with a full article. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:52, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

map showing Canary Islands
This article has maps of Tenerife itself, but really could do with a map showing where Tenerife is within the Canary Islands, and in relation to, say, Africa and Spain. Perhaps the map on the Canary Islands page would do, but I haven't got the know-how to place it in the main info box. Hogyn Lleol (talk) 14:49, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

"Tenerifan" or "Tenerifian"?
Is there any authoritative definition of the adjectival form of "Tenerife"? Our article seems equally split between "Tenerifan" and "Tenerifian". Is one or the other form more preferred? —Steve Summit (talk) 15:57, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
- Both usages are attested, though in my observation "Tenerifan" appears more frequently in published sources. For the sake of consistency I've changed all instances of "Tenerifian" in the article to "Tenerifan". -- Picapica (talk) 00:17, 9 September 2019 (UTC)

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

2nd largest African island?
It seems that Tenerife is the second largest African island, after Madagascar. Can someone confirm this? PWNGWN (talk) 14:18, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, Tenerife is the second largest African island (after Madagascar) with 2,034 km2. Third is Bioko with 2,017 km2, fourth is Gran Canaria with 1,560 km2. Subtropical-man (talk) 18:02, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- It depends on whether you count Socotra as part of Africa. It belongs to Yemen, but it is closer to Africa than the Arabian peninsula. Linguistically it has ties to arabia (but so does Zanzibar and no one would deny that is an African island). The flora is a mix of african and asian. Geologically I think it is part of East Africa. If you include Socotra, it is much larger than Tenerife at 3796 km2. You may also see Mauritus listed as 2040 km2, but that is for the island nation of Mauritus which also includes Rodriguez island and a few other outlying islands. Mauritus the island is 1864 km2. It is possible parts of the Niger Delta might be considered islands from the inland point of bifurccation but it is hard to nail down exactly the size of thiese pieces as they are further bisected and much of it is mangrove anyway. Nice question. Aapold (talk) 17:30, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

Elevation of Vilaflor
This statement from the article: "Vilaflor is the municipality with the highest altitude in the Canaries (its capital is 1,400 miles (2,300 km) high).". This cannot be correct, as this would place it well outside the earth's atmosphere (which is abuot 17km). The miles were converted to km (roughly, would be about 2253 km). I suspect this was meant to be 1400m and someone somehow took that to be miles. Indeed going by the article page for Vilaflor, Santa Cruz de Tenerife this is indeed the case. So I am updating the article accordingly to 1400 meters (4593 feet). Aapold (talk) 17:32, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

Prose
Allow me to share a note about the prose in this article with the hope that volunteers or other visitors (perhaps some of the regular British tourists in the Canaries) could take upon themselves to perform. It is not hard to notice that the article has been mostly translated from the Spanish, which is good and fine as a way to jump-start the English entry. But at this point, its prose should become anglicized. 71.63.91.85 (talk) 11:18, 6 May 2016 (UTC)

Media section focuses on English-language stations in a Spanish-language country
I added the Globalize template. The Medea section focuses on the two English-language radio stations even though it is a Spanish-language country and most of the radio stations use Spanish. Thisisnotatest (talk) 09:13, 23 November 2019 (UTC)
Sixth century BCE vs 200 BCE
Currently the History section opens:
The earliest known human settlement in the islands date to around 200 BCE, by Berbers known as the Guanches.[22] However, the Cave of the Guanches in the municipality of Icod de los Vinos in the north of Tenerife, has provided the oldest chronologies of the Canary Islands, with dates around the sixth century BCE.[23]
These claims are incompatible. I don't have enough knowledge to resolve which is true but it should be edited. Ordinary Person (talk) 12:15, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
Why so many maps on first page of article?
Is it that important to show an altitude map and the other maps at the beginning of the article? Wouldn't that be of minor importance? How about some photos of the town and island instead? 2601:540:C402:3F20:5D2B:29C7:A8A3:7B72 (talk) 12:08, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
Anyone who can help me who added that IPC section BCE hyperlink?
Hello. Who added the IPC it and why? I wouldn’t check the edit history as it may be so long! You need to answer it! Was it an IP? Or a user? (either a resident of Tenerife itself or international resident) Also who hyperlinked BCE? 2.103.231.248 (talk) 20:36, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
