Wesleyan?

[edit]

I'm a resident of Bedford and I've never heard of this MED 302 thing that's supposed to make us a 'technology powerhouse'. Sounds like hype to me, but maybe I just haven't been listening. Rarr 00:02, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gus Grissom

[edit]

I removed Gus Grissom from the list of residents born in Bedford because he wasn't born there. He was born in Mitchell, Indiana, as is stated clearly on both the Mitchell, Indiana page and the Gus Grissom page. - Rantabout 19:28, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

JT Syrgley

[edit]

Who is this guy? Only two Medals of Honor have been awarded to soldiers during the most recent war with Iraq, and both were posthumous. I don't agree with the rationale for removing him, since a Medal of Honor recipient would certainly be notable enough to include on this page, but as it stands JT appears to be pure fiction or vandalism. Founded in early 1900s under its present name

[edit]

I was raised in Bedford and I'm fairly certain that this is wrong. I think this is perhaps early 1800s. As I recall, the first site of the town (may not have been named Bedford) was nearer the White River, which is not in the city limits now, but was moved due to Malaria in the 1800s. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JordanHenderson (talkcontribs) 23:18, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm striking the part about Bedford being founded in early 1900s under its present name. I can't prove authoritatively that this is wrong, but http://www.countyhistory.com/lawrence/start.html this link is strongly suggestive that it's wrong. It says that Lawrence County's seat was Bedford in 1825 and it shows a Map that appears to be from the early 19th century that shows Bedford. This is my first Wikipedia encyclopedic contribution, I've read over the intro documents and I'm not sure I'm doing this right, but I'm doing it. JordanHenderson 14:03, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Found and added some Early History. Not sure I cited the EB1911 correctly.JordanHenderson (talk) 15:53, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Early History reference I found from "An Early History of St. Vincent De Paul Church" is no longer a valid link. I think that early history is valid, though. If someone has a book or something they can refer to here that would back this information up, the references don't have to be on-line, just accurate. Or, if someone can put that PDF file with the Early History of St. Vincent's church, that'd do. I'm reluctant to bother the people at the parish for this. I'm sure they are very busy. Jim Flick and Mark Wood

[edit]

Whoever added these people to the list of notable residents of Bedford might consider adding at least stub articles on them. I'm finding a [Jim Flick Biography] that does mention his accomplishments as a teacher and mentions his connection to Bedford.

I don't really feel comfortable doing stubs on them myself, knowing next to nothing about them or Golf.

Note that there are a number of Mark Wood references in Wikipedia, none of which is the Golf Teacher from Bedford. That's a good enough reason to do a stub.JordanHenderson (talk) 17:13, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mariah Carey moved to Bedford?

[edit]

I suspect this is vandalism, but I don't live in Bedford and have no way to verify this either way. Google searches don't turn up anything about Ms Carey's moving to Bedford, but she might be trying to keep it quiet. I'm not being bold enough to remove it, but it might be a good idea pending verification. JordanHenderson (talk) 14:07, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I assure you that she did not move to Bedford. I do live here, and considering the size of the town, news about her moving in would be widespread within a day or two. It's simple vandalism. Rarr (talk) 08:37, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Her loss - Bedford is a nice little town, but doubt it is her cup of tea... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.158.48.14 (talk) 14:50, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Bedford is also known as Bloomfield" and "Bedford and Bloomfield are the same place."

[edit]

I removed "Bedford is also known as Bloomfield" and "Bedford and Bloomfield are the same place." I have been a Bedford resident my whole life and never have I heard Bedford referred to as "Bloomfield." Bloomfield is a town in Richland Township, Greene County, Indiana. SEB August 31, 2009.

Someone from an IP tried to add a similar Bloomfield == Bedford vandalism before. I removed it awhile back. Funny kids. JordanHenderson (talk) 03:07, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Noticed that someone had once again added a "Bloomfield" reference, stating in the summary panel on the top right that Bedford's nickname is "Bloomfield". Removed this, as it is not the case, Bloomfield, as stated above, is the county seat of neighboring Greene County. -Tim Wray —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.14.215.58 (talk) 19:57, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Police Chief - Denis Parsley?

[edit]

I suspect the reference to Denis Parsley, Police Chief, is vandalism, but I can't find any definite resource on the internet to resolve this question. JordanHenderson (talk) 01:18, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Bedford was also originally offered to have Indiana University built in its city, instead of ..."

[edit]

Any source for this claim? If I can't find anything definitive I might remove it. JordanHenderson (talk) 00:59, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Jared Bond & Abraham Reynolds

[edit]

Anyone have any background on notable Jared Bond? Abraham Reynolds might be notable if there were a reference. I'm going to add some citations needed tags. JordanHenderson (talk) 13:54, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Someone at 72.12.201.162 keeps adding notable Jared Bond with a link to a personal LinkedIn page. This appears to me to be personal promotion coming from an IP address. If someone can point me to why Jared Bond should be considered notable, I'll be glad to leave it alone. JordanHenderson (talk) 02:45, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notable USCG Joshua Baker

[edit]

I am finding some web hits for a USCG Petty Officer Joshua Baker. I'd like to know more about his notability. JordanHenderson (talk) 02:52, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Are there really Kopimists in Bedford, Indiana?

[edit]

There's a listing for The Missionary Church of Kopimism. I guess I'd be surprised if there was a stable Church congregation. JordanHenderson (talk) 02:09, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Churches could be cleaned up

[edit]

Churches should be references rather than inline URLs, I think. Many other Churches in Bedford. The reference to LDS should probably reference a local page rather than the main LDS church page. Maybe I'll do some cleanup, but I encourage people who live in Bedford, IN to help. JordanHenderson (talk) 02:09, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Statistics"

[edit]

The only stats are about sex offenders, murder and rape. I've never seen anything like for another city! I'm not very savvy with the ways of the Wiki, but I think this is worth deleting. 2600:6C50:427F:EAE5:83B4:8221:358B:6F5F (talk) 05:48, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
