- Do you know of any sources that expressly say this which I could source if I add this sentence? I fear this might be a bit of editorializing on my part if I add it unsourced... — Hunter Kahn 02:20, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hmm, this source is the closest to saying the whole thing directly. If you don't want to attribute the Mets' second half to Matz, you can still state somewhere that the Mets moved back into contention for the wild card in August despite finishing the first half 10 games under .500 (without attributing it directly to Matz). - Ah, okay. that makes sense. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 04:03, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

- I didn't get that impression from reading the source (based on "The cause was never determined"). I didn't think you could contract kidney problems from going on a trip, but I'm not at all familiar with how someone can end up with kidney problems, so I could be wrong. Mostly looks good. Most of the comments are related to grammar. I suggested adding the Mets' performance in a few places. The biggest comment I have is: Can you add a new section to describe his pitching style? (see Clayton Kershaw, Barry Zito, and Iván Nova for examples.) Placing on hold. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 23:01, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking this on! I'll try to address your comments within the next few days... — Hunter Kahn 01:54, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
- Sportsfan77777 Thanks very much for your very thorough review! I responded to a few individual comments above, some of which will require some additional response from you. I went ahead and implemented your change on every individual bullet points that I didn't directly respond to above. As for the pitching style section, I think that's an excellent suggestion. Will try to work on that tomorrow... — Hunter Kahn 02:20, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- Sportsfan77777 I've added a "Pitching style" section as well, per your suggestion. I struggled to find sources that really discussed his style other than Brooks Baseball and Baseball Prospectus. I think these are both reliable sources (and they seem to be used as sources for baseball articles quite frequently, including the GA examples you cited above) but let me know if these don't work. This is my first time substantially editing an article about a pitcher, so if this section is not at all what you were looking for, don't hesitate to let me know. Lol Thanks! — Hunter Kahn 17:55, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

- The pitching style section is exactly what I'm looking for, good job! Sportsfan77777 (talk) 04:17, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- I replied to some points above, in particular the 2019 point. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 04:39, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- In response to your comments above, I moved the bit about Cain's illness (I think your interpretation of the source there was correct, btw) up a bit to the section about their relationship. As for the part about Matz's contribution to the Mets' improved Wild Card chances, I added this sentence citing the source you provided; feel free to tweak it if you think the sentence itself needs work, or let me know if you want any other changes. Thanks! — Hunter Kahn 14:34, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- That makes sense. I made a few tweaks. Passing, good work! Sportsfan77777 (talk) 05:49, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Steven Matz (pictured) was the first pitcher in Major League Baseball history to record three hits and four RBIs in his debut game, and the 11th player at any position to do so?
- ALT1:... that Steven Matz (pictured) was the first pitcher in New York Mets history to allow two runs or fewer in each of his first five career starts?
- ALT2:... that before they were on the New York Mets together, pitchers Steven Matz (pictured) and Marcus Stroman faced each other in a high school game one scout called "one of the best duels I've ever seen"?

- Driveby non-review comment: Could you please link RBI? As someone entirely unfamiliar with baseballing, I have no idea what that means. MIDI (talk) 21:10, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

- New enough (passed GA within 7 days), long enough, and passed Earwgis copyvio detector. As a sports fan I find this interesting but now sure about for a broader audience. As stated above, many do not know what RBI stands for which is meat of ALT0. To me, ALT1 is better but still a little niche.
