Burns' Catholicism
[edit]@Rms125a@hotmail.com:, your edit summary says "restored category which could NOT be more relevant to Burns and added reflinks". However, the article merely stated just that "Burns is a practicing Catholic." Merely being a Catholic is not notable and including a resultant category because of Burns' religion would be a breach of WP:BLPCAT. The information contained in the references, however, if included as information in the article, would make Burns' religion notable and a suitable subject for inclusion in the categories. I'll add a sentence or two. Regards, BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 21:42, 19 September 2015 (UTC) It is equally as relevant as his failure to grab a foothold in the duality of Hampshire politics and so retreating to the one part system of Dorset 108.171.128.169 (talk) 11:56, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
Passed WP:BLPCAT I think
[edit]WP:BLPCAT requires for his religion to be given in category or infobox:
- subject has publicly self-identified with the belief or orientation in question
- subject's beliefs ... are relevant to their public life or notability, according to reliable published sources
The cite given on the infobox line[1] states "list has been compiled .. and by contacting MPs to ask if they would identify as Catholic", so clearly passes requirement 1. I'd also argue the venerable The Tablet discussing particular MPs religious beliefs shows his religion is relevant to his notability. So I think this infobox line should be left in.
It seems to me WP:BLPCAT intent is not to list religious info the subject is not intending to be public information. But Conor Burns is well known as a Catholic MP, a past chair of the parliamentary committee on Vatican relations, and according to the Telegraph "one of Britain's most senior Roman Catholic MPs".[2] To me it seems silly not to allow a religion line in his infobox. Irish nationality
[edit]Is conor burns an Irish citizen? I would think yes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kevinc565 (talk • contribs) 20:43, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
- No, he is a British citizen and a Tory. He has the right to claim irish nationality under that country's laws if he chooses but has never done so. Quis separabit? 21:41, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
calling hecklers "spastics" - local newspaper sources?
[edit]I noticed that this has been removed from the article due to the Daily Mirror source being defined as a tabloid
In the run-up to the election Burns was criticised for referring to hecklers as "spastics" and calling a woman a "hunchback". He subsequently faced a students union disciplinary hearing as the vice-president of the Southampton Conservative Association.[1]
It would be useful to know if there are any other sources (I would be surprised if it wasn't reported in the local Southampton Echo for example) but given the pre-internet dates it's difficult to search. Does anyone with an interest have access to the local newspaper archives? --Tip.Stall (talk) 09:57, 26 November 2018 (UTC)

Dismissal as Minister
[edit]Needs a reference. Is it the same issue that led to disciplinary action as an MP? S C Cheese (talk) 08:44, 8 October 2022 (UTC) Not the same event as this allegedly occurred at the recent party conference, could be related behaviour. — Preceding unsigned comment added by S C Cheese (talk • contribs) 10:30, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
