I think you're the one who had asked back in August about why this link wasn't coming up. Did you ever figure out what was wrong? Whenever I click on the link, the "error" message comes up about hitting the refresh button, checking the address, and so on. Do you know how to get past this?

Also, is there anything you'd be able to tell me so I won't get banned the first time I go there? Thanks! MusicGirl21 23:19, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey

How's it goin', CJ King ! Cool name, and rather clever (I saw your explanation on your very well-done user page which I could easily envy). I admire MLK deeply as well; you should check out Category:Wikipedians who admire Martin Luther King Jr.. I didn't really know that you could change your name! Interesting... Thanks for dropping by; life's been decent lately, especially considering our victories in November. Hope everything is going good for you to, and wanted to inform you of a great resource on the web (which I've added to my bank of links located at: User:Editor19841#External links); http://www.crossleft.org/ and your invited to come check out the WFD2008 (Wikipedians for Denver 2008) homepage located at User:Editor19841/Denver 2008. Sorry to hear about Tampa losing out to those guys out in Minnesota... That's the GOP for ya', right? Anyhow, have a good one, drop by anytime. Editor19841 (talk) 23:29, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Hey CJ! School's going pretty well, but my schedule's a bit busy. How are things with you? PS, I like the new name. --WillMak050389 23:40, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

work

Hi there, I see you changed your name. I was originally only going to respond to Randfan in order to cut down on my user talk edit count, but then I decided that it might be rude of me to ignore you. I'm putting here what I told him.

(reprinted content below)

I don't want to be too specific, both because I don't want to risk trouble with my employer, and also I don't want to give too many clues to my ex-boyfriend, whom I am still very afraid of, but I work with computers. I get a decent income, I suppose, out of it, but it's not at all what I would like to be doing, which is something related to literature and the arts (none of which pay well, for the vast majority of people). I also live in an area with a high cost of living, and even with insurance, I spend a large amount of money on medical bills. I'm dependent on a medication which is unavailable in Canada, and dependent on my job for income and insurance, so I feel trapped in a job that I don't like. You can see how this contributes to my depression. --Kyoko 00:48, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

My, you're nosy. If you must know, I was once in an abusive relationship, and when I finally got the courage to leave him, I fled far away. I'm still scared what he'll do to me if he ever finds me. --Kyoko 15:13, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

The Novels WikiProject Newsletter: Issue VII - December 2006

The Novels WikiProject Newsletter
Issue VII - December 2006
Project news
 • The project Scope has been slightly expanded to include the shorter narrative prose fiction of Novelettes and Short stories.
 • Due to the diligance of many editors we now have more than 5000 articles tagged as part of the project.
 • Keeping the Novels announcements page up to date and fresh is in need of a volunteer who can keep an eye on it and keep it's content fresh and lively. Please let us know if you are able to help with this. It doesn't involve much, but it needs to be looked at regularly.
Member news
 • The project has currently 178 members, 9 joined & 1 leavers since the last newsletter at the start of November 2006.
Other news
From the Members

Welcome to the seventh issue of the Novels WikiProject's newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

We would encourage all members to get more envolved and if you are wondering what with, please ask.

Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk), Initiating Editor

Auto list news
 • Plenty of work has been done on articles included in the "auto lists" in the last couple of months. Particluarly so for the NovelsInCompleteInfobox list, which is constantly being worked on by a number of editors and most of those missing "genre" entries and quite a number with missing "ISBN" entires have been dealt with. A re-run of this list is due soon, courtesy of user Eagle.
Collaboration of the Month
Current debates
 • A new policy proposal has been started and the various points are to be seen at Wikipedia:Speedy deletion criterion for unsourced articles, please take a look at these and comment. This is a vital subject and all editors should consider the implications. These are NOT active yet, but could have wide reaching consequences. Please contribute your views.
 • We have a project structure that allows for the formation of special interest task forces (al la "WP:MILHIST".) This was mentioned last month and a few have indicated interest. This is useful for identifying groups of Novels editors who have a common interest. (i.e. Science fiction novels, Crime Novels, Children's novels, Classic literature, Russian novels etc.) Would there be interest out there in setting one or more of these up. Comments please to the General Forum. Currently I am considering starting with "Crime Novels" and "Russian Novels" to see what can be achieved.
Newsletter challenge

Last months Lawrence Durrell's novel Clea challenge was met by Hurrah (talk · contribs), who was "very" quick off the mark. As with the previous months it is now a very small stub in need of "loving care".

 • The first person to start the article is mentioned in the next newsletter. This month's article is paranoid fiction.

Your sig

Hi - I'm not sure what the issue is with your sig (have you tried putting the font outside the links?), but please don't include a link to an article in your sig. This will have the effect of making the "what links here" for the article link to every page including one of your signed comments. -- Rick Block (talk) 04:50, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Signature question

Regarding your signature question at the help desk, I think I can help. But first, I have a brief piece of advice. I read the bit about your admiration of MLK on your userpage and understand why you want to link to the article in the talk page. However, I'd advise you not to do it because it will clutter up Special:Whatlinkshere/Martin_Luther_King,_Jr., which editors regularly use for maintenance. It's not a big deal, and it's not prohibited by any policy or guideline, but if you sign 1000 talk pages, it makes it more difficult to wade through the links to the MLK article.

As to the sig itself, first try going to your preferences and replacing your signature code with and then go to User:CJ King/signature and stick your signature code there. If that doesn't solve the problem, I'll try to jimmy with it some more. You can reply here.--Kchase T 04:54, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

This will do it, I think:

<span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><span style="color:red;">C</span><span style="color:blue;">J</span> <span style="color:#b8860b;">King</span></span>

<font> is bad. The reasons abound; span is the way to go. I'll be surprised if that doesn't work. You don't need to have a signature page and substitution to get it to work, though I don't think that's a big no-no. Just be sure your signature has the raw signature box checked underneath, or the wikicode will not work right with the superimposed link. BigNate37(T) 05:27, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Admin coaching, etc.

Are you ready to get started?

The waiting time over at Admin coaching is long (some people have been waiting in line since July). I'm an admin coach with the project, and for my students I set up a group discussion page so that we could all learn from each other. The scope of this concept has expanded into the Virtual classroom, which is an open forum for the teaching and learning of advanced Wikipedia skills.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate, as a student, as a coach, or both. Every week or two a new major topic of discussion or classroom assignment is introduced, usually with a guest writer who presents his or her expertise on the current subject and who remains on hand to answer questions. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussions, such as sharing your expertise, asking and answering questions, etc.

The current topic of discussion is vandalism, and our guest writer is Budgiekiller.

All discussions are open-ended, so all previous discussion topics and classroom assignments are still there for viewing and further participation. There are also sections for posting miscellaneous topics and questions, requesting coaching assistance, etc.

In addition to inviting those who would like to learn, I routinely invite experts from all over Wikipedia to come and contribute for the benefit of all. The VC is rapidly turning into a clearing house of the best resources, methods, and techniques known for working on Wikipedia.

You are cordially invited to participate.

Here's an announcement box which you can place on your userpage or at the top of your talk page for keeping up to date with classroom assignments.

I hope to see you there. Sincerely,  The Transhumanist    08:02, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

RE: I have been renamed

Hi Chili/CJ,

Nice to hear from you- I've not really had much Wiki time recently, and don't think I will over Christmas either, but it's always great to hear from you!

Concordia Newsletter

NEWSLETTER

Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.

Help out now!

 • Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
 • Give people the Civility Barnstar.
 • Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
 • Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
 • Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.

We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.

Decision Making

The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know here.

- Ian¹³/t 20:29, 13 December 2006 (UTC). Kindly delivered by MiszaBot.
