FAQ

Why is there not a link to it? http://www.mercs2.com/faqs.php —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.4.114.200 (talk) 07:58, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When's the game coming out

Whats the real date for Mercenaries 2 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Icetonez186 (talkcontribs) 16:36, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The release date is of yet unannounced for any system or region. Any release dates you are given at this point are unofficial guesses. Яussiaп F 02:40, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GameStop lists Mercanaries 2 as coming out on 04/08/08. Why it makes a lot of sense for GameStop to be keenly aware of projected game release dates (Even if few others are):
Earlier knowledge of future game release dates = More Pre-Orders = More money, even without yet delivering any products at all. -- 24.4.21.81 (talk) 08:27, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No release date

It says the release date is in October when really the release date has never been announced. It should be Quarter 4 2007.

I'd also like to add for future referance: no release date is official until confirmed by Pandemic Studios. Even dates found on sites such as gamespot are only rough estmates. Яussiaп F 02:19, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS2 Development

Development of the PS2 version of Mercenaries 2 is being done entirely in-house by Houston-based game developer Pi Studios. This is confirmed on their homepage. I would add this to the main wiki entry myself, but since I run the company that would be bad form. :) Jfaulken 19:55, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rumor

I don't know if this should be added, but in the latest video blog there is a date on the white board "4.16.07" and then I think it is engrave in "soul." Many people think this is important and the community manager has said it might be something important like a wedding or something. There is reason to believe that something pretty big might happen that day but there is not conformation.

Nothing happened. It was all just rumour and hype going around the Pandemic forums. Яussiaп F 18:29, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

that was the day in which Pandemic Studios announced the consoles in which mercenaries 2 was going to be released on —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.28.37.186 (talk) 14:20, August 21, 2007 (UTC)

Returning mercenaries

All comments below are old (except for The Frederick), it has been confirmed that all of the original mercenaries will be returning. Also it will be possible to recruit other mercineries, which will give you certain bonuses. These include a pilot and a mechanic. clitton01 14:59, 15 November 2007 Clitton01 (talk) 09:27, 22 November 2007 (UTC) The only merc from the old game confirmed to return is Mattias Nilsson (and with him the voice of Peter Stormare (yay!)). See FAQ.[reply]

I'm pretty sure that Chris Jacobs will return also. Russian F 15:45, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Keep an eye on the FAQ, it looks like they'll update it as things get final. Bufflo
Wrong. The only merc yet ANNOUNCED to return is Mattias Nilsson.
Yep, Mattias is the only one officially announced. Editing. The Frederick 12:31, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Jacobs and Mui have been announced too. Яussiaп F 18:28, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Xbox 360, PS3

The link provided is hardly official, and it doesn't mention anything about "however after looking at the strong level of videogame market share that the Xbox 360 controls, Pandemic Studios decided that they should also release the game for the Xbox 360." Why not just keep this as a PS3 game until the developers confirm the 360 release. Seeing how they won't even comment on what quarter of 2007 it will be released, I think anything is possible at this point. Bufflo 02:53, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Indeedy. I contacted 1up for confirmation on this but havn't got a responce. I'm thinking it got caught up in thier 2,000,000 fan emails or just got ignored. Time will tell. Keaton 3:10pm, July 8, 2006. (ECT)
  • Is Mercenaries 2 exclusive to the PS3?
We have not made any final decisions concerning the various platforms for Mercenaries 2.
From the above FAQ, updated on a regular basis by the Lead Programmer. Bufflo 23:02, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

>>>There's plenty more info saying that Bioshock is coming to PS3 as well, but it's being listed as a Xbox 360 exclusive.

New link to updated FAQ. Bufflo 23:19, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many many many games have been touted as being "PS3 Exclusive" when in reality they've only JUST ONLY BEEN ANNOUNCED for the PS3, and were subsequently announced for the 360. Assasin's Creed, Virtua Fighter 5, etc. Any game that isn't being published by Sony or Microsoft could very likely to release for both consoles. This includes Bioshock, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc etc etc. However, there is a much higher chance of PS3-announced titles heading to the 360 than Xbox 360 titles heading to the PS3, due to the huge market share advantage of the Xbox 360. Also there is not "plenty of info saying that Bioshock is coming to the PS3" and Bioshock is listed NOWHERE as a "Xbox 360" exclusive (the wiki page simply states what platforms have been announced so far, and if you read, you'll notice the article has an "upcoming videogame" notice). The only info so far is OPM rumour that Bioshock is likely coming to the PS3 PyroGamer 20:17, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This game has since been officially announced by Pandemic and Electronic Arts as being in development and slated for release on Xbox 360, PC, Playstation 2, and Playstation 3. PyroGamer 20:25, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, the announcement is on the official page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 190.37.152.91 (talk) 04:03, 23 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

and BTW there is no huge 360 market share advantage, there is a small one at best and even then it's competing with the PS2. Markthemac 15:14, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy

Some of my additions have been deleted by anonymous user(s). I am going to restore my contributions, if somebody considers they should be deleted, we can discuss it here.JRSP 15:43, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have left in the contribution about controversy surrounding selection of locale of the game and removed the references to the Venezuelan Solidarity Network, which is reading very much like interest group spam.

Ok, I restored some of the paragraph avoiding direct references to them. Also added a reference to a game-related site that mentions other sources for the criticisms. JRSP 13:39, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This seems fair

I edited the Controversy section, as someone from the ip address '69.44.191.113' changed the line 'criticized by the Venezuelan government' to 'criticized by the Stupid Venisualan government'. This is my first edit, so if I did something wrong, my apologies. Is there somewhere to report this IP address to prevent this from happening again? Is it necessary to include Bono?

I'm working on the Bono article and saw this came up. It's most likely going to be removed from the Bono article because it has little to do with his musical career (90% of his exposure).

But I must ask the same question here. Why is this even mentioned? This seems to infer that Bono came up with the idea of the game. He is just a board member of a parent company. If we're going to talk about anyone, why not mention the game's writers? Mentioning Bono seems to have no relevance to me - other than the fact that he is the most famous board member of the parent company. (Someone easier to attack)

I'll be removing this soon unless someone has a good reason as to why it should stay. Chupper 04:20, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This controversy has been reported by The Independent and Spin. Computer games are seldom mentioned out of specialized publications. Therefore, the link to Bono is relevant to the notability of the game.—JRSP 16:06, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Those critical of the game's premise were specifically calling on Bono. It's part of the story and deserves a place in the controversy section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.90.110.130 (talk) 13:35, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(Q2 speculative)

The page says that the release date is speculated to be Q2. Says who? More accurately, speculates who? Яussiaп F 15:55, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed?

"The inclusion of the Grappling Hook adds a new vertical element to the game as the device can be used to highjack airborne vehicles, scale buildings and structures, and even attack enemies to some degree."

"Confirmed factions include a guerilla group, an oil company, and a pirate faction."

Pandemic hasn't announced these (text in bold) on their website. Where did this information come from? Speculation? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.31.28.160 (talk) 05:22, 23 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Forget it, found it comes from the UK Official Playstation Magazine, apparently. Verified! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.31.28.160 (talk) 00:45, 24 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

The playable factions will include: Universal Pretroleum (oil company) The Guerrilla Resistance (PLAV) Pirate Gang (weapons and vehicles dealers)

Unplayable factions iclude: People's Army of Venisulea (always hostile) {needs evidence} - based on crooked governement Allied Nations Forces (friendly) People's Army of China (friendly)

The Chinese and American forces only come into play after you have done some serious damage to the Venisulean Military, as your actions as a mercary have an effect on a global scale. These forces will most likely prove useful in clearing out any remaining resistance.

Changed Release Date

I changed the release date for 2 reasons. 1- Fall of 07 and Q4 of 07 pretty much make up the later half 2- for the South Hemisphere seasons are reversed so Fall to them is the current season and our fall would be there spring. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by FuzionZero (talkcontribs) 16:41, 23 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Boxart

The boxart shown on the page was fan made. It's not official. Or I do not theink it is, at least.

I also believe this boxart is noncanon... Яussiaп F 03:15, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • whine* they deleted the logo I submitted for the article. ;_; Keaton 1:29pm EST, 4 Aug 2007
Yeah, why did they completely delete it? Яussiaп F 00:02, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copied/Pasted from Pandemic website?

Several parts (or entire sections) of this article seem to have been copied and pasted from the mercenaries 2 homepage at Pandemic (www.Mercs2.com)

To prevent copyright issues, someone should quickly rewrite the sections in question. (Panzer-Kavalier 09:21, 16 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]
