Template

I have no idea how to make a template. If anybody would like to make templates for the this project, that would be most appreciated! Staroftheshow86 04:20, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

what kind of templates are you looking for?--Samwisep86 08:49, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This User is a member of the New Orleans WikiProject

Here's one for all the members--Samwisep86 09:09, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much, Samwisep86. This is awesome. I was also looking for a template similar to the one's I'm putting below to put on Nola stubs and all Nola articles

{{NYC-stub}}

{{ChicagoWikiProject}}

Staroftheshow86 17:21, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just joined the project and was trying to come up with some templates. Let me know what you think.

Stub Template: {{NewOrleans-stub}}

Article Template: {{WikiProject New Orleans}}

VerruckteDan 21:27, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks VerruckteDan, these are great. I'm going to put the templates on the main wikiproject page. Thanks again for your help. Staroftheshow86 03:43, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I also just made the User Page an actual template. VerruckteDan 04:03, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stub template

Well, it turns out there are some Wikipedia guidelines for creating stubs that I did not know existed. The {{NOLA-stub}} has been listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries. I'd ask that members of the WikiProject leave comments as to why this stub should exist and to comment on whether you feel an exception should be made to keep the stub listed as NOLA-stub. The guidelines state it should be NewOrleans-stub, but do allow some exceptions for the convenience of editors. I used the NOLA appreviation for its ease of writing and common usage in the New Orleans area. Additionally, the New York City stub is listed as {{NYC-stub}}, so I felt it would be acceptable to use our appreviation. VerruckteDan 17:15, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikitravel

Just a note - as part of the scope of this project you might consider making changes/additions to the Wikitravel articles about New Orleans as well.--Justfred 15:27, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great suggestion. Even though this project focuses on Wikipedia articles about Nola, the Wikitravel articles could definantly use some improvement. I'm all about better representing this city. — Staroftheshow86 21:59, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I've been active on the Wikitravel New Orleans articles. Note that Wikitravel unconnected to Wikimedia, so strictly it wouldn't be part of this particular project, but folks with input here who are familiar with current conditions and openings in New Orleans may have valuable input there as well. So many films, songs, has been made about about, or set in, New Orleans... Wouldn't it be a good idea to dedicate an article on the subject (does it already exist)? For instance:

What do you think? Mrbluesky 22:24, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is an article called Culture of New Orleans, but it's basically a copy paste from the New Orleans, Louisiana article. Maybe you would incorporate some of this information into this article before starting a new one? I've heard New Orleans called the "Hollywood of the South" because of all the movies filmed here, or about here. Not to mention all the songs, and the creation of a whole new musical genre: Jazz. This article could easily become just a list, and I don't know if that would be beneficial for this project. It might be good to try to incorporate this information into the Culture of New Orleans article before starting a new one. Just my 2 cents. Staroftheshow86 23:13, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just found an article called New Orleans in Fiction which seems to include a lot of what you're looking for. -- Staroftheshow86 19:55, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Orleans Wiki.

There's a "New Orleans Wiki" under the "ThinkNola" domain name. Volunteers from some of the local non-profit organizations seem to be maintaining it. There's not much here, but there is information on several rebuilding projects in the city.

Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. Also, I note that yours is a comparatively new project. You may be interested in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide, which has a lot of information regarding project organization from several of the most successful WikiProjects. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 18:02, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Voodoo Music Experience

You might want to check out the Voodoo Music Experience article. It seems like its one huge copy/paste job. I can't prove it, but it was all added at once and it doesn't seem to be written by a regular person. Eclectek C T 04:12, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. It has now been deleted since big chunks were taken from here. TerriersFan 02:54, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 22:10, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images

I usually have a chance to take some photos around town about once a week or so. Any other volunteers to take photos for use in Wikipedia? Suggested/requested photos? -- Infrogmation 23:41, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The map image of the State of Louisiana featured on the St. Tammany Parish page is geographically incorrect. Note the southeastern portion of the state. Lakes Pontchartrain and Maurepas are not large enough and St. Tammany's shoreline isn't represented as the shore of Lake Pontchartrain. It's as if there's a phantom parish inbetween. This needs to be remedied. --Heavy 19:12, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Heavy1974[reply]

I can provide many images taken by me of New Orleans. I live on Gentilly at the New Orleans Baptist Seminary. Is there a place I can dump a lot of these photos for use on the New Orleans wiki project? I don't know how to contact people here on Wikipedia, shoot me an e-mail at johndball -at- johndball.com --John Ball 15:24, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SFD/R notification

This message is to notify you that a stub template and category that is involved with this WikiProject ({{NOLA-stub}} and Category:New Orleans stubs) is up for deletion and/or renaming at WP:SFD. Please join the discussion. Thanks. ~ Amalas rawr =^_^= 15:38, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey everyone, please go and comment on the proposal for our stub. I think the best course of action is to go along with the renaming to Wikipedia standards (NewOrleans-stub) but not to upmerge into Louisiana-stubs, as there will clearly be a large number of articles the stub can be placed on. VerruckteDan 07:24, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Orleans article footer

A new footer template has now been created for New Orleans-related articles, inspired by {{New York City}}. Several redlinks currently exist, I'm afraid. But, the hope is that these links will become live articles (or adjusted to include better suited existing articles) in the near future. It's sure to get a good amount of use, much like the stub tag. — ArkansasTraveler 19:40, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your help on this Project Page, and with the Templates. Things are really lookin' great Staroftheshow86 04:27, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ramos gin fizz

Hello. I am from the Mixed Drinks WikiProject, and I wanted to let you know that we have created a new article called Fizz (cocktail) that incorporates the information from Ramos gin fizz (an article your project has tagged), Gin Fizz, and other new information. We feel that consolidating this information into a single article is preferable to two sickly articles that would likely face AFD otherwise.

I have created a move request at Wikipedia:Requested moves#8 February 2007, and there is a discussion section at Talk:Fizz (cocktail)#Requested move if anyone cares to discuss this. Thanks, and I hope this doesn't ruffle any pelican feathers. (Your state bird is the pellican, right?) --Willscrlt (Talk·Cntrb) 07:50, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Theaters

How did this get overlooked? (he asks, rhetorically) Let's dig up some information on the Saenger, Orpheum, State Palace, etc., and post articles as appropriate. Thank you all.Macmedic892 22:29, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good suggestion. -- Infrogmation 23:12, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be interesting to read more of the history of the theatre in New Orleans! If they were any theatres in the 18th century, and about some of the actors in the town before the 20th century! --85.226.235.213 10:08, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Historic Landmarks

I guess this is how I'm supposed to do it... an admin needs to help me out on this <-- Jackson Barracks, New Orleans (historic military base in lower 9th) has no information on it here on wikipedia. I used to live there and have many images pre-Katrina that I can upload. I also have resources that are in charge of the military base that can cite the history of Jackson Barracks. Please contact me at johndball -at- johndball.com --John Ball 15:27, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Orleans Architecture

I started the Buildings and architecture of New Orleans page. It's a work in progress, and would love your input on such an important article! Staroftheshow86 22:49, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have created a basic portal. It is just a shell now, but any assistance would be welcome. Arundhati lejeune 08:53, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That article needs attention. I have left some hopefully useful information on the talk page. Regards, BNutzer 13:22, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I rewrote it and cleaned it up. Anyone have any comments? CarbonX 00:41, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:New Orleans Fleur de Lis.gif

Image:New Orleans Fleur de Lis.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

List of people from New Orleans

Could I get some more eyes to look at the List of people from New Orleans article, especially to make sure the "red links" are all to legitimate article subjects we need to fill in? See Talk:List of people from New Orleans for disussion. Thanks. -- Infrogmation 15:08, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Casket girls

Casket girl is a mostly-orphaned article, and needs development. I bring it to the attention of the Project not only for that reason but because it is categorized under "History of Louisiana" rather than "History of New Orleans." I understand the rationale for placing it in the Louisiana category but it seems to me that it ought also to be in the New Orleans category. Someone with more experience of this issue than I have should make the call-- it seems to me that there are probably a lot of articles out there that would qualify as both categories and perhaps you have a policy already in place. National Historic Landmarks in New Orleans

Hi! Infrogmation let me know in passing that this wikiproject exists. I have been working recently on List of National Historic Landmarks in Louisiana, many of the 53 or so of which are in New Orleans. (Is it too familiar, for an outsider who has only visited twice, to say "in the Big Easy"? Arggh, am over-analyzing perhaps.) Anyhow, pics and edits to provide better descriptions (or any descriptions at all to replace blank spaces) for the many NHLs in New Orleans would be appreciated. Obviously the current description for the Cabildo, for example, is totally lame-o. Please visit, pity my pathetic work to date, and consider helping! cheers, doncram (talk) 21:38, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of tallest buildings in New Orleans is up for featured list status. Leave your comments here. VerruckteDan (talk) 19:14, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The first theatre of New Orleans

I think it would be interesting to read about the first theatre in New Orleans. On the net, it says it was founded in 1792, but I don't know anything about this. It would be interesting to read about the theatre life in the city in the 18th and 19th century! That should deserve to be mentioned. And about some historical actors perhaps? I hope someone will write about that some day! --85.226.235.178 (talk) 10:09, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
