SXEPHIL should be in here! He's way more subscribers than most of these users.

I tried to create DeFranco's profile about 2 months ago, but someone deleted it before I could even finish. I saved the page in case something happened to my computer and while I was collecting more information, the page was gone. All I'm saying is this guy deserves a profile. Have you looked over WP:BIO? Ichormosquito (talk) 08:41, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First set of comments

Mr. Saftey Corey Williams SMP Films

Where is mr saftey! come on man! they have Boh3m3,The Hill, and Lisa Nova! But No SMP!Shark64 02:12, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, hey Shark64, this is "the encyclopedia anyone can edit." I don't know of Mr. Safety, but if he's a notable subject, then you should start writing.--Absurdist 04:03, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article is screaming, SCREAMING for protection. Ichormosquito 05:06, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neil Cicierega was recently added to the list. I'm not sure if he qualifies as his prominance isn't a result of his presence on YouTube. He seems to have already been prominant without it. However, I'm not really familiar with his history, so I'm not removing him.--Absurdist 19:47, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My first exposure to him was through YouTube. If there's evidence his fame significantly increased because of YouTube, I don't mind his being listed. He's on the Most Subscribed list. Ichormosquito 21:00, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I found it odd that he was here. He'd long been famous for his animutations (I first came into contact with his name about 4 years ago), and even Potter Puppet Pals was long before that, so I'd suggest that any YouTube success he's had is simply building upon his older name recognition. AOEU Warrior 19:36, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm removing him. Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny is at List of Internet phenomena, anyway. Ichormosquito 02:50, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aije

Has a relatively large following, and has been included in a list of minor celebrities. Does she meet Wiki's standards?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.154.44.28 (talkcontribs)

Look over WP:NOTE and WP:BIO to see if she fits the bill. Ichormosquito 16:54, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ashley Tisdale?

Why do people keep adding and removing Ashley Tisdale? From what I can tell, she's one of those stars Disney Channel or Nickelodeon (TV channel) manufactures, not a YouTube celebrity. I might be wrong. Ichormosquito 03:09, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

She has a YouTube account

That doesn't mean she's a YouTube celebrity.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.199.24.160 (talk) 00:09, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

she has alot of subscribers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hposda (talkcontribs) 22:14, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So? This article is for people who have become famous because of their Youtube exploits, not for television starts who have lots of subs on their Youtube page.

Tay Zonday

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwTZ2xpQwpA&mode=related&search= I'd say he IS a YouTube celeb. He gets at least 10 comments per hour with Chocolate Rain. Sometimes 30! He should be on the list. Almost eveyone on YouTube has been RainRoll'd!!! YouTube even had it featured!— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ladder4321 (talkcontribs)

SWEET. He has a page now lol. I knew he'd be here eventually. That's kool. Ladder4321 19:34, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ryan Wieber

How come Ryan Wieber isn't on there because of Ryan vs. Dorkman?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Jm479 (talkcontribs)

Angry German Kid

Could someone please make an article about him so that we can add him to the list? I belive he has become famous enough to be added. Gdfanatic21594 02:42, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Check the conditions set by WP:NOTE and WP:BIO to see if he's notable enough. Ichormosquito 04:41, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DaxFlame

He has over 100 blog videos and is recognized by a lot of people as a Youtube celebrity. Which get thousands of views and comments with each video. So can somebody please make an article for him and add him to the list. I don't know why he isn't on there. (not signed)

Daxflame is definitely a phenomenon on sites such as 4chan, having spawned many an image macro with his quotes and images from videos such as tapeface and the 'block and swipe' video regarding G4. I think he should be included on this page. 63.197.134.209 19:32, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You need to make an article about daxflame before he can be listed. To do that, you will need to take your case of daxflame's notability to WP:Deletion review, as his page has already been deleted on more than one occasion and, as of now, cannot be recreated. I would wait until he gets more attention outside of YouTube first, however, so that his article can satisfy the guidelines at WP:NOTE. Ichormosquito 22:05, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you do that? Wikipedia confuses me in so many ways. I personally don't know how do those kinds of things.

I want to, seeing as how his videos take less than a week to get over 100,000 views; but his article would still need sources. As soon as he turns up enough Google news hits, I or someone else will be sure to get one up. Ichormosquito 07:53, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would also be hard to write the article, as it's hard to know if he's faking it or not. But still, he has 55,000 subscribers, so I think he deserves an article. He's a lot more famous than most of the people that already are on the list.--The monkeyhate 21:03, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's been proven that it's fake, his name is Madison, there are pictures of when he was younger, and if you watch his earlier stuff his "Mom" calls him Bernice, but later ones he tells people his name isn't Bernice, meaning his mom would've been told to say Bernice, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.60.101.245 (talk) 03:45, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DCLugi?

He Should be on here? Bobo6balde66 15:40, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He needs an article first. I can't find any secondary sources to his name, so creating a verifiable article will be difficult. He might fulfill WP:WEB enough for a stub, given that Super Deluxe hosts his content; but this argument would be a tough sell at AfD. And if his notability will only hinge on Super Deluxe, I'm not sure he could be classified as a YouTube celebrity. Ichormosquito 18:13, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

But he could be on that list couldnt he? Bobo6balde66 14:45, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Similar lists

You might want to look at Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles for a similar list with similar issues in terms of how the list is managed.--SallyForth123 00:30, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move?

I suggest moving this list to List of articles about YouTube celebrities or List of Wikipedia articles about YouTube celebrities. As a list of Wikipedia articles it might discourage the addition of redlinks etc. What does everybody think?--aBSuRDiST -TC- 02:13, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would not support such a move. I don't think this is intended to be a list of YouTube celebs with Wikipedia articles but a list of notable YouTube celebs. We're using the existence of a Wikipedia article as a proxy for notability. If someone were to add a new person to this list with several good sources, I'd argue for retaining the addition despite the header and practice of only accepting those with articles.
If we just wanted a list of YouTube celebs *only* with articles, then it would be far easier to just add them all to a category and be done with it. --ElKevbo 03:13, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with ElKevbo on this one. List of Wikipedia articles about YouTube celebrities = Category:YouTube video producers. See List of Internet phenomena for an example of what ElKevbo's talking about: though they're all sourced, not all the entries on that list have corresponding articles. What I'm wondering is if a page about YouTube celebrity in general could exist separately from List of YouTube celebrities, like how Internet memes does from List of internet phenomena. Ichormosquito 03:39, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Brotherhood 2.0

I suggest adding Hank Green, the writer of "Accio Deathly Hallows," which has over 700,000 views and was featured on youtube. He and his brother, author John Green, have a system where they alternate posting a video blog every weekday to each other as their only means of communication during 2007. Called Brotherhood 2.0, it has gotten to be very popular, especially after Accio Deathly Hallows, and thus made the two, and particularly Hank, overnight internet--and specifically YouTube--celebrities. Hank was even asked to contribute to a Harry Potter article in the New York Times because of his vlog. I'm working on a wiki for Hank, trying to make sure it is worth adding, but in the meantime I want to add him on here, if there are no objections. Comments? Jax

Please cite some very good sources or create a Wikipedia article (with very good sources) before adding anyone to this list. In other words, establish that the person(s) is notable. --ElKevbo 04:29, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to make an article, look over WP:NOTE to see what kind of sources you will need. If you decide the subject doesn't fit the guidelines listed, show us what sources the subject does have; and we might be able to list him without a corresponding article. Ichormosquito 09:18, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This list is absurd

  • I'm not 100% sure, but I would say by either total views, subscribers, or channel views. ÇɧĭДfrĪĔпd12 02:44, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • The notability of each vlogger is determined by the amount of non-trivial coverage of the subject in reliable third-party sources (see WP:BIO and WP:RS). If the subject has little or no third-party coverage then the articles are deleted, and/or they aren't included in this list. This is done on a case-by-case basis, as with all Wikipedia articles.--aBSuRDiST -TC- 16:11, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am amused that Absurdist replied in this particular thread. :) --ElKevbo 16:13, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Turks

There is a theesome, Volkan Öge, Tansu Tunçel and Ömür Cedimağar by name, who made two videos and have appeared in famous talk shows (like Beyaz Show) and newspapers like Radikal [1] or even Hürriyet [2] wrote about them ([3], [4]) . the three guys transformed French songs into something different: Sütü seven kamyoncu (The milk loving truck driver) - originally si tu savais combien, and Bana kitap al (Buy me a book) - originally Ne me quitee pa. Funny thingies, if you know turkish. What I wanted to say is that there is not a single young turk who wouldn't know these YouTube celebs, so they might deserve an article - but how shall i do it? It's a group but they don't have a name. --Teemeah Gül Bahçesi 12:55, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Very interesting. Maybe you can call it "Bates Motel Productions"? From what I can tell from their YouTube channel, it's what they call themselves. I can't read Turkish, though, so I can't speak to their notability. The sources seem legit enough. Ichormosquito 04:02, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edgar's Fall (la caida de edgar)

Edgar was a world phenomenon in early YouTube, he appeared on CNN, BBS, became one of the most watched videos in Japan, Russia, England, China, Brazil, appearing later in interviews, commercials, YouTube users made their own versions, remixes. Why this little boy became so famous? it's a mistery. but we cannot deny his famous breakthrough because of YouTube.

You're right, it is a mystery. 4 million views because some hapless 7-year-old has a sadistic friend? But the video seems to have received coverage: [5] [6] [7] Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b89CnP0Iq30. Its demonstrable effect on the YouTube community: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=la+caida+de+edgar&search=Search The obvious Star Wars themed parody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0Y5sTchMYs. See what they say at Talk:List of Internet phenomena. If we don't make an article about it, we can always list it with a few of the sources. Ichormosquito 04:35, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Google Mexico recenty featured Edgar, referring to him as " El famoso Edgar le da la Bienvenida a Youtube México!!". Here's the link: http://mx.youtube.com/watch?v=3oVSlNf0unI I think we should list him. Ichormosquito 22:17, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Natalie a.k.a. Communitychannel ?

Hi, I noticed that Natalie, username communitychannel wasn't on this list, but I think she should be. She is both a director and a partner on YouTube and her video blogs have received a ton of honors. What are your thoughts? --Drenched 06:03, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I say add her and add WHATTHEBUCKSHOW/Peron75 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.176.132.95 (talk) 13:28, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Add her. She plays different characters like Christine Gambito, a.k.a. HappySlip and do it very good. She is #31 - Most Subscribed (All Time) and #23 - Most Subscribed (All Time) - Directors. --Adler 71 16:54, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of Chris Crocker or Michael Buckley?

These guys are pretty well known, from It's Chris Croker and the What the Buck? Show. Seems strange that there should be no mention of them. McLarenJAB 17:30, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Stranger (newspaper) ran a fairly comprehensive piece on Crocker recently, but one source isn't enough for an article. There needs to be evidence of sustained coverage. Ichormosquito 00:56, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, folks

If this article is going to stay, I think it needs a radical change. There needs to be more information about YouTube celebrity in general. Ichormosquito 03:04, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We should probably categorize the celebs, as well. 3 categories I can think of are "serials", "musicians", and some basic vlogger category. Ichormosquito 03:08, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GiR2007 (James Provan)

James needs a page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.224.144.241 (talk) 20:06, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to bring it back, first look over this page: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James Provan. If you find fault with the arguments presented, take your case to WP:Deletion review. Your luck there will depend on how many reliable sources you can find. Ichormosquito 02:13, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Name Change

I'm sorry, maybe I'm missing something, but why exactly was the page moved from List of YouTube celebrities to YouTube celebriries? Calgary 19:57, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editors suggested we do so at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of YouTube celebrities, probably to hit home the argument that "YouTube celebrity" is a sourced phenomenon and can sustain its own article. I could go either way. Ichormosquito 23:46, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Smosh

Smosh is obvious and should be on the list. They have the most subscribed to channel on youtube. http://youtube.com/members?s=ms&t=a&g=0 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.60.148.133 (talk) 04:07, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I guess we could list him. Where's the media love for paperlilies?! Ichormosquito 09:17, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kevjumba!

If half of those are YouTube celebrities, then comedian Kevin Wu, a.k.a. KevJumba definitely should be on here. He is the number one subscribed comedian all time - http://www.youtube.com/members?s=ms&t=a&g=2--172.215.99.177 19:12, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You might find this interesting: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kevjumba. So far as I know, Kevjumba hasn't been mentioned in the mainstream media. Ever. Articles need reliable sources. As things stand right now, you'd have better luck petitioning the New York Times to write a feature about Kevjumba than you would pushing an unsourced Wikipedia article about him. Find reliable sources and we'll be in business. Ichormosquito 20:29, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Common sense says yes, but we really shouldn't list someone as a YouTube celebrity until a reliable source has referred to him as such. The list would spiral out of control. Ichormosquito 02:57, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What about his ranking on Stickam and photo with Jeffree Star? Onur Tcontribs 15:59, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most of them have references in their respective articles, but we should make the effort to import. There might be one or two we'll have to remove from the list. Ichormosquito 09:55, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Youtube Partners

Since partners all seem to have a large amount of subscribers or be well known does anybody else think they might deserve to be added to the list? Just an idea.--67.174.128.249 (talk) 22:39, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are they really "celebrities"? There was only one video, (at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLnk-A1OkKk) which received less than 22,000 views, two orders of magnitude less than some of the others, and their notability seems to have been extremely temporary, limited to June 2007. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 00:25, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would say that MRirian is now due to an entry in the list. A lot of things have changed since the last entry here. She has now become a Youtube Partner and there are different reliable sources outside of Youtube. (Printmedia) She had two interviews with the japanese edition of weekly playboy, the first on 02/09/2008 and the second in the april edition. davedays Should Be In Here

Davedays should be on this page, and he has a pretty good case in favor of adding him to it. To start, he's a youtube partner. He over 19,000 subscribers and 629,314 channel views. His "I've Got A Crush On Hillary" video has been seen by almost 600,000 people in just one week. His most viewed video has been seen 3,178,789 times. He has no videos under 3 1/2 stars and the majority of his videos range from 4-5 stars. Not to mention, his multiple appearences on National tv. His video appeared on MSNBC when it was discovered and a few days following that he appeared again on MSNBC to give an interview. Then theres the talent he possesses, most of his videos are songs and the mastery of his guitar playing and singing actually in my opinion and in the opinion of the many users who comment on his videos should be utilized in an actual band not just for comedic songs. However he truly has a gift for composing great lyrics and the rhetoric in his songs)whether intentional or not)is nothing short of mind blowing.Davedays is truly a youtube celebrity and he's only gonna get better. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.163.165.92 (talk) 02:46, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How did Pat Condell get added?

How did he get on here without any discussion? Just about every other name on that list was discussed yet he wasn't? I mean, compared to Chris Crocker, kevjumba, WHATTHEBUCKSHOW, and DAXFlame, he's pretty low on the subscribers list, or world-news sources discussing him. Despite the lack of popularity, hype (as in number of news sources talking about him), or even number of videos (all compared to the above), he made the list. It doesn't make much sense that he gets onto the list when the rest of the pack, outrunning him, doesn't. Anyone know what the deal is? Paladin Hammer (talk) 19:31, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another note, his entry was added: 15:37, 15 December 2007 76.20.226.239 . So we are letting non-wiki members not only edit youtube, but avoid discussion altogether? All I'm saying is that the article doesn't make a lot of sense if we aren't applying some kind of rules to how someone on youtube is considered a "celebrity". Paladin Hammer (talk) 19:40, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection

I'm locking down this page for one year. Hopefully it'll make keeping this list free of every wanna-be celebrity spam easier. Wikipedia IS NOT a soapbox for you to increase your channel views. It's an encyclopaedia. If your YouTube video or channel hasn't been mentioned by a major news or media outlet, then it's simply NOT NOTABLE and has no place on this list. Our Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Notability (web) policies are very strict on this. --  Netsnipe   ►  10:13, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
