Indian Christianity

Hello,

Could you chime in at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Indian Christianity? There is some debate going on regarding the name of the portal, project and the template & icon/flag logo. Thanks.Brian0324 (talk) 20:42, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Upon discussion and consensus ( see here) , The following changes and decisions were taken w.r.t to Indian Christianity workgroup :-

  • The scope of workgroup will be limited to Indian region only for now.
  • The workgroup will be renamed to Christianity in India instead of Indian Christianity.
  • The changes will effect the project pages, Portal and the templates.
  • The templetes will be replaced by a Indian map instead of Tricolor flag picture.

This is FYI - Tinucherian (talk) 04:41, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus at Wikiproject Indian Christianity

Tinucherian: thank you for the notice about consensus at Wikiproject Indian Christianity. I have been following the discussion [dare I say “with interest” :)] but certainly appreciate the courtesy. On a related note, I asked a colleague with much experience in Wikipedia policy about the merging of templates. She advised that merges, which typically involve the deletion of one of the templates, are handled at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion. The name may be somewhat deceptive, but a quick look through the discussions will reveal several similar to that proposed at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Indian_Christianity#Nav_boxes. reply to Tinucherian's letter

Hai Tinu, I read your letter .I am not intending to vandalize the viewpoints of any church or group.I was under the impression that the Jacobite Syrian Church didnot claim for the title 'Catholicose of The East'.The Jacobite Church of India is an Autonomous church and not an Autocephalous Church.Only the heads of an autocephalous church have the real right to use the titles Catholicose or 'Patriarch'.

The supreme head of the Syrian Jacobite Church is H.H Ignatios Zakka I Iwas. But H.B Baselios Thomas I ,is just a Maphryono,i.e; a subordinate of the Patriach of Antioch. Please also note that the head of the Malankara Catholic (rite) church, alsodo not have the right to use the title of 'Catholicos' as he also comes under the supremacy of Pope ,in the Catholic Hierarchy.I have evidence for this ,as i have a copy of the letter sent by Cardinal Walter Casper,to H.G Philipose Mar Eusabios, stating that the title had not been awarded by the Pope, but was being used by the Major Archbishop himself.

Now, as for the Malankara Syrian Jacobite church,I will give you evidence for the reason why another person under the title of Catholicos was sent to kerala,as the head of the jaobite Syrian church ,by the Patriarch of Antioch. The passage given below is taken from an Antiochian orthodox church site discussion forum.

'Regarding H.B. Thomas 1, . H.G. Mar Eusebius discussed the issues with H.H. Patriarch in 1998 (a photo published in recent book of H.G.), and at that time the Patriarch was agreeing to the opinion of IOC. Four Jacobites bishops accepted the unity (initially it was the Patriarch who encouraged them to stand for unity). All these efforts were sabotaged by H.B. Thomas 1 in 2002. H.B. Thomas 1 went to Damascus and there he threatened the Patriarch that if he is not ordained a Catholicos, he will die there with out consuming food (Satyagraha, which is a form of struggle commonly used in India to achieve goals). Since Syria is ruled by Baath party and any such indicent would affect the Patriarch, H.B. Thomas 1 was ordained with a new title specially created for him, namely 'Catholicos of India'.

I hope you now understood why i created a new page under the title Catholicos of The East.If you think there is some mistake or false statements in this article please do leave a message in my talk page.Arunvroy (talk) 09:37, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I wanted to mention that I have put up two pages for assessment on the Anglican WikiProject, but should I also send it towards your guy's way for assessment also? One has been worked on, the other start. Sermons of Dean Swift and Sermons of Laurence Sterne. Both will probably be low importance. Thanks. Ottava Rima (talk) 13:51, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Wikiproject Christianity Membership

Hey, the reason I quit this Wikiproject is two-fold. Firstly, I'm undertaking my Victorian Certificate of Education this year and next and so, I won't have much free time to edit Wikipedia. Secondly, although I am a Christian myself, I haven't actually involved in this WikiProject, so my departure won't make much of an impact. After two years, if I can see myself joining this project again, then I will be more than welcome to. I appreciate your concerns though. God bless, σмgнgσмg(talk) 11:31, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re: wp:x invitation

Hi. Thank you for inviting me to join the project, but I'll limit my edits (for the foreseeable future) to WP:EO related articles and sections for two reasons: IMO they need to be expanded in an accurate and careful way (making me buying and reading books, which is good), while interdenominational topics are prone to opinion wars (eg. Talk:Jesus). For now it's better for me to avoid disputes (I had one related to the Sign of the Cross) - not because I can't provide arguments (eg.), but because I want to use the time I have for me, too. Interdenominational / ecumenist POVs, syntheses or debates won't give me the same satisfaction; they'd only be sterile intellectual games -- Regards. adriatikus | talk 21:02, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tinucherian, I would love to be involved in the Christianity WikiProject. I has been a long time since I was active on Wikipedia and I would love to find a way to get involved. Just let me know what I can do. I am Southern Baptist by practice so I tend to have an evangelical and Calvinistic slant. I can do just about anything you need and can work with just about anyone. Regarding the Article Malankara Church

I suggest to rename the article title to Church of St.Thomas Christians. Thats the term used most frequently to refer to the ancient church by all denominations and parties. There is nothing wrong in using title as Malankara Church. But we see that Malankara and Malabar Church are used quite interchangely and i suggest to change the title to Church of St.Thomas Chrisitans as more apt usage. I also suggest to make it more focussed some of anceient leaders like Mar Sabor and Prodh, Some of the early metroploticans before Portuguese, Mar Thoma 1, Dinosous and Nidhiry Mani Kathanar etc making it more focussed on the gems.Tarijanel (talk) 17:02, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tarijanel, I am strongly aganist naming Malankara Church to Church of St.Thomas Christians. By simple reason , that it was how the local church in India was known for atleast 16 centuries. It is unquestionably the church that is started by St.Thomas , but Malankara Church will be definitely the right choice of the name of the article. You can redirect Church of St.Thomas Christians to Malankara Church , but not the reverse. The idea of the article is to focus mainly on the 15 centuries before the Portugese arrival. - Tinucherian (talk) 09:24, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Assessments

There has been a problem with the christianity project's use of Betacommandbot. You requested that the bot replace all templates with no importance to a default of low. This is counter-productive since an article that might be of very high importance is suddenly ranked as low. Without letting each article being individually assessed, we are sweeping assessments under the rug and they are becoming almost useless. People will think that the assessment is complete and not worry about it anymore when in reality, its just as bad as having an article with an unknown importance. As User:JGHowes noted, on the wikiproject's page, how can we justify the National Council of Churches ranking as low importance? Grk1011 (talk) 02:18, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good morning,

Tinucherian:

Thanks for inviting me to join in the Project Christianity. I was planning to just not do anything with your message, but when I clicked on your User Page I felt inclined to write you this note.

My involvement with Christianity is almost completely through it's art. I am not a Christian and am accused in some places of being anti-Christian, which I do not feel that I am.

Here is the short version of my involvement with that religion and I think that it will become clear why I chose to mention it to you.

In 1952, when I was 4 years old, my father was employed by the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization and posted to Sri Lanka, then called Ceylon. In 1958 I was sent to a boarding school in Madras (now Tamil Nadu) called Kodaikanal School. It can not be that far from where you were born. It was run by Christian missionaries and their approach to the religion was enough to turn me away from it. However I was well educated in it's precepts and continue to dabble in it. Being an art historian I am particularly interested in the sculpture that the church produced.

I also have become a bit disenchanted with the bureaucratic turn that wikipedia has taken in the past few years and have cut way back on my participation here. I used to do much more.

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.03/wiki.html?pg=1

All this introspecion is leading me to accept your kind invitation. One of the rules that I live my life by, Rule # 19, is when asked a question, my default answer is , "yes." Please excuse my rambling, your simple note generated all sorts of thoughts and I somehow felt inclined to pass them on to you. Life is supposed to be interesting. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 13:58, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
