Back at the Barnyard is a Nickelodeon show that is a spin-off of the 2006 film Barnyard. According to the show's page on Nick.com it aired September 29, 2007. The show is produced by Omation, the animation division of O Entertainment, in association with Nicktoons Studios. In March 2008, Nickelodeon renewed the show for a second season consisting of 20 episodes.

Plot

The plot generally revolves around Otis (a male cow with female udders) and his barnyard friends. Otis wants to goof around, but is responsible and must protect the inhabitants of the farm. He and his friends Pip (a mouse), Pig (a Pig), Peck (a rooster), Freddy (a ferret), Abby (a cow), Duke (a dog) and Bessy (a cow) have many crazy adventures, while at the same time help Otis protect the farm.

Otis and his friends have to overtake many obstacles like Mrs. Beady trying to prove that animals can talk, and goals like to distract the farmer, so they can party every week.

Shorts

The series is a spin-off of the movie Barnyard. Nickelodeon then anounced that it will become a spin-off series. Before the series aired, four shorts were shown:

I'm a Loopy Nut Job

Otis and Pip pull a prank on Mrs. Beady while she is watching a yoga show and a cooking show.

Cow in the Road

A family is driving and Otis, Pip, Freddy, Peck, and Pig distract them.

Sloshy Sloshy

A class goes on a field trip to the farm. Snotty Boy starts to poke Bessy's udders and then, Bessy squirts milk at him.

Pig in a Bottle

While Pig is in the mud, he gets a bottle stuck on his butt.

Notes

According to the DVD commentary on Barnyard, the underground world of gophers will be revealed. On the preview, it indicates that Otis may still play pranks on the humans. This will be Steve Oedekerk's next animated series for Nickelodeon, as he was one of the executive producers (but not creator) for The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Also, as noticed in commercials, Otis will not be played by his voice actor in the film, Kevin James. Instead, Chris Hardwick voices him here.

Dag, the leader of the coyotes in the film, and the main villain of it, hasn't made an appereance in the series.

Back At The Barnyard Has Been Renewed For A Second Season Of 20 Episodes.

Trivia

  • The pizza guys' delivery car's license plate says 1337, internet lingo for elite.
  • The character design of Otis the Cow is from a sculpture by Southern California artist Mark Beam.
  • The episode "Fowl Play", refers to the show Law & Order. The beginning shows the Fowl Play text similar to the Law & Order text, also the intermissions refer to Law & Order's intermissions that make that double bell sound.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Beady are references to Mr. and Mrs. Kravitz of the Bewitched TV series. Mrs. Beady sees the animals walking and talking nearby, and in Bewitched, Mrs. Kravitz sees witchcraft being practiced nearby.
  • Oedekerk got the idea for the show when he was working on something while his friend's dog was staring at him. When he left the room, he imagined the dog standing up and saying "Jeez, I thought that guy would never leave".
  • Otis is a male cow, but has an udder
