Rock N Roll Jesus is Kid Rock's sixth album under the Atlantic Records umbrella and his eleventh overall. The album was released October 9, 2007. Rob Cavallo (Green Day & The Goo Goo Dolls) co-produced the album with Rock & Al Sutton.[1].
Musical Style
The album sees Kid Rock moving away from rap, into other genres. The album mixes hard rock, southern rock and country, with traces of jazz, soul and delta blues. He still manages to rap on songs such as Sugar. The thematic elements of the lyrics include social commentary in the ballad "Amen", reflecting on the concept of getting older in the track "Roll On", and remembrance of lost love in "All Summer Long". Some of his more trademark elements can be heard in "Rock N Roll Jesus", "So Hott", "Sugar" and "Don't Tell Me U Love Me". The track "Half Your Age" takes shots at Rock's ex-wife, Pamela Anderson.
Lyrical Themes
The lyrics on Rock N Roll Jesus are wide-spread, and speak of many things. Themes range from teenage affairs to Pamela Anderson.
1. Rock N Roll Jesus
The title track of this album is Kid Rock's b-boy typical bravado laced into a AC/DC styled classic rock song oppossed to a rap song. Its in much in the veins of American Bad Ass and Trucker Anthem were he detest all his contemparies in American music.
2. Amen
Amen is a song of worldly troubles, ranging from starving children to war, but in a more motivational way, where if we all work together, we can solve these problems.
3. All Summer Long
This successful single is about a teenage summer camp romance during Kid Rock'steenage years. It speaks of how he had made love down by the lake playing "Sweet Home Alabama", while they were "smoking funny things" and "sippin' whiskey out the bottle." T Later he states that to this day, when he hears this song. "he starts to sing along, and think "Man, I'd like to see that girl again."
4. Roll On
The song has him complemplating on the fact that he's aging and entering a new phase in his life and he's looking forward to growing old and sharing stories with his future grandkids.
5. So Hott
This single is his "Crazy Bitch" by Buckcherry he's stated. Songs explains itself pretty much he's got the obssesion with a girl and he wants to have sex with her.
6. Sugar
Sugar as two parts. The first part of the song is a folksy ballad where he see's the airs of his ways with Pamela Anderson. Then he kicks into Devil era rap metal for the 2nd half claiming he's been set free and back to play the field.
7. When U Love Someone
When U Love Someone is a song about love. It's about how when one is truly in love, he wont "care what people say", because true love will last.
8. New Orleans
New Orleans is a song referencing the city of New Orleans saying that "people gonna treat you right". The vocals on the first part of the track is done with a nasally faux creole voice. It was co written by David Allan Coe.
9. Don't Tell Me U Love Me
Don't Tell Me U Love Me is about false love that women pretend to give to rich celebrities, saying that Kid Rock is aware of their tricks, and wont believe it if women tell him that they love him, because he's aware of their tricks, and wont love them back.
10. Blue Jeans and a Rosary
Blue Jeans and a Rosary is about a good girl that falls in love with the bad guy. She so in love with the guy she pays no minds to her freinds saying he's no good for her.
11. Half Your Age
Half Your Age is by most called a diss track towards Pamela Anderson, stating his ex-wife is "Half Your Age and Twice has as hot", plus she doesnt bitch about everything.
12. Lowlife (Living the Highlife)
In the final song on the album, is a John Eddie cover. Its a Rolling Stones-esque tongue in cheek rib at himself for all the ways he's a lowlife. Although the line "I got kids I've never seen and their mom is seventeen" isn't true.

[3] Billboard stated "We may be more entertained at times by Rock's extramusical affairs, but the "Devil" should still be given his due as a clever and creative musical force." [4] Allmusic was less enthusiastic, stating "The music isn't as serious: splashy and silly though it may be, at least it gets the basic sound right, even if it's way too polished and precise." [5]
