Lostprophets is a Welsh rock band formed in Pontypridd in 1997 under the name Lozt Prophetz.[1]Although widely associated with alternative rock, the band's sound incorporates nu metal, hard rock and alternative metal elements.[2] Since its formation, Lostprophets has released three studio albums, three extended plays, and thirteen singles.
The band were established in 1997 in the Welsh town of Pontypridd.[1] Lostprophets formed with two members from the hardcore band Public Disturbance, which featured drummer Ian Watkins and guitarist Mike Lewis.[1] Neither member initially left Public Disturbance, although Watkins quit in 1998.
The band rose to fame in United Kingdom with their debut album Thefakesoundofprogress, which became a success and was certified gold in the UK.[3] Their next studio album. Start Something, earned Lostprophets international success, selling 2.5 million copies worldwide and achieving gold certification in the United States and platinum in the UK.[3] The second track from Start Something, "Last Train Home", reached number one on the Modern Rock Tracks charts. The third album, Liberation Transmission, put the band at the top of the UK Albums Chart for the first time, and was also certified gold in the UK.
