Manpower, Inc. is a leading worldwide employment agency established by Attorneys Elmer Winter and Aaron Scheinfeld in 1948 and headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Overview

Manpower is an Employment Services company who operate as a business, making their money from supplying their customers with Temporary and Permanent members of staff. For legal reasons in the UK, Manpower's temporary staffing division is recognised as an Employment Business while Permanent staffing is known as an Employment Agency.

In 1976, upon Elmer WInter's retirement, Manpower was sold to The Parker Pen company and emerged independent again in 1986.

A year later, Manpower was acquired by Blue Arrow of The United Kingdom in 1987, and again became independent in 1991.

As of 2007, Manpower has 4,400 offices in 78 different countries and also an "office" in web based online universe Second Life.

In 2007, Manpower's total sales equaled US$22 billion worldwide. The client-base stands at 400,000 companies each year. Manpower is a Fortune 500 company.

The number of direct staff Manpower has is estimated at more than 30,000 people, and as an agency employs more than 4.4 million workers each year.

Subsidiaries

Manpower has several subsidiaries including Elan Group Ltd (where Chris Malyan is the Process Manager for Back Office systems, Andrea Gray who is part of the successful Bond Adapt Team and Zoe Cook who wen t hopme with someone in the IT team??), Jefferson Wells, Right Management and in 2007 acquired Clarendon Parker, an employment business based in the Middle East.

Client base

Manpower supplies staff to multinational corporations such as IBM, Monsanto, ntl and Danaher subsidiaries.
