Guitar Hero 3 controller for PlayStation 2 is different to others

I feel that it should be noted that the Guitar Hero 3 controller for PlayStation 2 is a Kramer Striker guitar replica instead of a Gibson Les Paul replica as is the case for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii. Given that the Gibson Les Paul and the Kramer Striker are totally different, it should be noted that the controllers are different. Getting to a Guitar Hero featured topic

Given that we have presently 3 GAs (GHII, GH80s, GHIII) and can likely get the series (this page) and the first game up to spec, I think we should consider if there's a possibility of making the Guitar Hero article series a featured topic, including the song lists. I am putting the first game's song list article up at peer review to see if there's a possibility of it qualifying as a featured list, which would help to promote the rest of the articles towards a larger featured topic. --MASEM 17:40, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Star Power redirect

Star Power should not redirect here. It is far too generic a phrase and can be meant as Star power or StarPower, which both link elsewhere. It's far too ambiguous to point to Guitar Hero. Besides, there are no links to Star Power, so we are pretty thinking anybody who types in "Star Power" into the search box means to come here. Be on watch for GH: The Beatles

An exec of the company that owns the rights on the Beatles works has recently stated that he'd like to help bring a Beatles-themed GH game to the market. This is not any validation that the supposeded "Guitar Hero: The Beatles" exists. People have been adding this without any other source, so while the mention of this desire to create one is worthwhile to not, keep an eye out for those adding the game way too prematurely. --MASEM 22:15, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Getting the GA series to an FT

We are close to having enough articles to qualify at a Featured Topic:

• Guitar Hero (series) : GA
• Guitar Hero (video game): FA
• List of songs in Guitar Hero: FL
• Guitar Hero II: GA
• List of songs in Guitar Hero II: FL
• Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s: GA
• List of songs in Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s: currently at FLC
• Guitar Hero III: GA
• List of songs in Guitar Hero III: B-class, but working to get to FLC quality based on other lists
• Guitar Hero III Mobile: B class
• Guiter Hero Carabiner: Start class

I am discounting Aerosmith, On Tour, and GH4 for now (explain in a bit). For an FT, you need about 20% or more of the articles at FA/FL (with 80s songlist, that gives us 4 of 11, or about 35%, and I would get GH3's list up to FL before doing an FT, making it 5 of 11 or 45%). We also need each article that can be at GA or FA, and for those that can't (both Mobile and Carabiner), at least performing a peer review. Thus, all we need to do is spiffy up Mobile and Carabener and get those PR'd while I help bring 80s and GH3's lists through FL to get to being a FT.

As for Aerosmith, On Tour, and GH4, I asked the FTC page on this, and they suggested that its fine not to include those, but once the games are out, those articles are expected to get to GA-minimum quality within 3 months of release and then the FT re-evaluated to add them into the topic. We've been doing good on tracking Aerosmith and On Tour's development stuff, so I doubt this will be a problem.

Anyone up for tackling Mobile and Carabiner to get these to spec? --MASEM 15:56, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

I think we just need to keep the cruft down. There's no major size issues yet with the page, and as long as we keep it to notable appearances as are listed presently (I just did some edits) it should be fine; at worst if there's many more that are added, we can swap out less notable ones (eg, if it's used on multiple talk shows, we can replace the Ellen D. mention with a common phrase). --MASEM 19:23, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

About the song lists...

I'm SICK of the way that they're ordered. I say we put them back in setlist order, because it's hard to tell what will be/is where and it's ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to figure which songs are encores. I think we need per-game lists and a list of every song featured in the series. I believe that the latter would be useful. export audio of guitar hero?

hi, i've got some questions about copyrights and more concerning the guitar hero series: since you purchase the game, including the audio tracks, is it forbidden to export/ extract the audio tracks (like only guitar, only bass, only vocals+drums or the whole song) or are you allowed to do that? because you could also just record and save them and you'd have the complete song without purchasing it. maybe it would be cool to be offered guitar hero versions where the songs are included as audio, so you can put it in your cd player or as files on the dvd, which will be of course more expensive but allowing everyone to easily use the audio tracks of the different instruments... it'd also be cool to be given the chance to purchase the audio tracks of the songs at the band's website or wherever... i mean, isn't it obvious that people could record this audio tracks and upload it so others will be able to download it, because you can't purchase or even somehow get the tracks from somewhere? unrealshade 195.14.222.112 (talk) 01:50, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

i think it is appropriate for wikipedia, because using the audio tracks of the instruments is a very interesting aspect for musicians, who might want to purchase the game in order to hear the instruments seperately and to play the song accurately. at least, wouldn't it be the only way to hear the instruments of songs seperately (since you cannot purchase them seperatley)? thanks for your answer, though. unrealshade 195.14.222.112 (talk) 02:56, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

thank you, i'm quite aware of that. in my opinion it would improve the article, if it said that you are able to listen to the guitar and bass / rhythm guitar seperately, because it's an interesting aspect for musicians (as explained above). so i think that should be in there. maybe this is one of the reasons why guitar hero is so famous. furthermore it would be good to know if you could export the audio tracks to listen more closely to the audio tracks of the seperate instruments. since i don't know if this is possible or even allowed, i wrote these questions. i wrote that not only for gain of personal knowledge but also to write this aspect in the article. so in the end we will finally be able to do that for the sake of the article's quality. sorry if i didn't point that out clearly enough formerly. if you don't share this opinion with me, feel free to tell me your reason why you think this aspect would not improve the article. unrealshade 213.196.193.199 (talk) 17:01, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, if it answers your question, you can change the audio options (under Options) in every Guitar Hero game so that you can listen to the guitar track or the "band" track (a combination of rhythm/bass guitar, drums, and vocals) separately while you play that song. If playing practice mode, you can listen to the rhythm/bass guitar track or the "band" track (a combination of lead guitar, drums, and vocals) separately while you play that song. And if playing Co-Op mode, you can listen to both the lead guitar and rhythm/bass guitar track or the "band" track (drums and vocals) separately while you play that song. Note that you will need two players to actually play both tracks if playing Co-Op. And as far as I know, it is possible to replace the audio tracks and note charts in the game with your own in the PlayStation 2 version of Guitar Hero II. I just don't know if it is possible to export them. Either way, I still don't see how exactly will this improve an encyclopedia article. --Lightsup55 ( T | C ) 17:43, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Scorehero?

I don't know how this would fit in, but shouldn't there be some mention of the website scorehero.com, a website for tracking guitar hero scores that has over 250,000 users?

One of the leaders of Harmonix has donated $2,000 to the site, and members of the site have also been specially invited to beta-test games, and Neversoft/Harmonix both have registered accounts on the site, and regularly post news there.

Over-charted

Shouldn't it be noted that Guitar Hero is over-charted to hell? You play notes that don't exist within the song. That's why Rock Band is "easier," because it doesn't make up notes.
