ITN

I don't know where to suggest this, so I figured I'd ask you. In the ITN for today, I think we should use this image of Michaëlle Jean, rather than the one of Harper. After all, it is her decision to prorogue parliament that is being reported. -- Scorpion0422 21:37, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find this image on commons? Chesdovi (talk) 11:36, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was deleted from Commons, since on Flickr (the original source of the image), it did not allow commercial use nor derivatives, which is incompatible with Wikimedia policy. Maxim(talk) 13:10, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

good evening, maxim - i'm afraid the above user, who you blocked indefinitely for socking, is back again under a number of aliases. you might want to have a look at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Yaneleksklus (3rd) if no-one else does in the meantime. cheers! --Kaini (talk) 20:45, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ohio State

I still don't completely understand. Why was Beta blocked for an action such as this? Bcspro (talk) 03:23, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Addition to interview

I removed your comment from the interview. Nothing personal, I just don't want to make a habit of allowing uninvolved persons to throw their two cents into my interviews. One-on-one is the way to go whenever possible. --Cryptic C62 · Talk 17:18, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Talk:Israeli–Palestinian conflict archives

On 28 July, you deleted the entire archive (five pages) of Talk:Israeli–Palestinian conflict, on the grounds that these were "orphaned talkpages". But they would be; there isn't an article called, for instance, Israeli–Palestinian conflict (archive1). Your action has removed a huge amount of useful (indeed vital) explanatory and discussion material. I assume that this deletion was a mistake, and I request -- indeed, implore -- you to restore these pages. Thanks. RolandR (talk) 22:56, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, they're located at /Archive #. These "archives" were actually redirects and had no content. Maxim(talk) 22:59, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find them. The archive box on the talk page only contains red links; none of them leads to any content. So where have the archives been hidden? RolandR (talk) 00:12, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. Maxim(talk) 00:19, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you; I tried, but couldn't work out what the problem was. RolandR (talk) 11:56, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Tommy Dunderdale

Updated DYK query On 17 December, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Tommy Dunderdale, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Hi Maxim, there is a DR at Commons regarding an image that was moved from en-wp to Commons. Its copy at en-wp was deleted by you. May I kindly ask you whether you could take a look at its description if there is any source information? At the Commons copy there is just a pointer to en-wp. Thanks for your help and regards, AFBorchert (talk) 19:21, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replied there. Maxim(talk) 21:12, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Maxim, thank you for helping out. In the course of another deletion request, I found this user talk page at en-wp which consists of advertising only and the associated account did nothing else. I do not know how this is handled best at en-wp. May I leave that to you? Thanks and kind regards, AFBorchert (talk) 23:48, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page deleted. For spam, {{db-spam}} to request page deletion. Maxim(talk) 23:52, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can I have this article unprotected? It looks like you salted it indefinitely after two G12's. Chubbles (talk) 07:46, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Maxim(talk) 13:28, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Happy First Day Of Winter!

Talk page

Thanks for move protecting the page. Strangely enough he's never once moved it, does the hagger thing or more often the phone number, and then I block. Rinse (delete page) and repeat. In fact it's because they never moved the page that I didn't realise that they were the hagger guy and not just a copycat. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 17:45, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Post-Apocalyptic Science Fiction Films Category

Maxim, I'm sort of wondering why you deleted an established and evidently necessary category page, without so much as giving a reason, as it usually expected when doing something like that... Such a move is definitely not non-controversial maintenance, nor is the reason readily apparent (to me, at least. Maybe I'm missing something). I'm assuming you just thought that the overall post-apocalyptic fiction category was sufficient, but with the relatively large number of pages linked to this deleted category, and no way of knowing which items were films as opposed to literature, radio, or television content (in the post-apocalyptic fiction category) short of manually clicking each and every item, the page is de facto necessary. I'm sure you're just doing your job, and I certainly don't want to antagonize you in any way, but you need to provide some reasoning for such a MAJOR deletion, as per Wikipedia policy.

If you could, please restore the category page in it's entirety... I'm not even sure all of the articles previously linked to the page are represented in other categories, and even if they are, I'm not sure it's sufficient for users or editors to be able to easily find the articles in question. Thank you in advance! And happy holidays! Kaelus (talk) 06:52, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The category was renamed, so a bot had tagged it for deletion. I probably should have specified a clearer reason. Apologies for the confusion. ~Maxim 13:45, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

So...

Who were the seven ArbCom candidates you selectively picked? You said that you thought they would work best together. --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 21:45, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I did. Is there something else you wish to ask me? Maxim(talk) 21:47, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Who were those seven candidates? --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 21:48, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You can go through my contribs to find that out... no offense, but don't you have something better to do, like make an article better, than to quiz me on my arbcom picks? Maxim(talk) 22:51, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just curious. --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 00:27, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's nice that User:Jpgordon got his account working again, and doesn't need to be unblocked and adminned through this secondary account. It was very helpful of you to remove the extra account now that the problem is solved. :) -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 21:57, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Soviet Power Gang

Why did you delete that? Soviet Power Gang is a Californian street gang just like Armenian Power, and their page is up here. Why do you have to destroy it for everyone else??
