Thanks - I'll take that as a compliment :) I had been wondering what that little critter was and saw the redlink, so just filled it in. Thanks for identifying it and giving the external links. Please feel free to expand the article if you have any further information or references. -- ALoan (Talk) 10:45, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks very much for your help with Grey's Anatomy. I see you haven't been here very long. Welcome aboard. I've done some work on television topics (see my monumental article Dawson's Creek), Ohio, the Supreme Court of the United States, and many other topics. (See User:PedanticallySpeaking/Articles for a list.) If I can be of help, please let me know. PedanticallySpeaking 18:08, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your help with the indentification of the photos - sorry I didn't say anything on the page, but I was away on work expereince for the last two weeks. --Fir0002 09:50, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I hadn't thought of other skins. Are there still skins that don't autoscrollbar preformatted text? --W(t) 00:07, 2005 Jun 23 (UTC)
- Mmm, monobook does not have any decent auto stuff. Hopefully it will eventually. ¦ Reisio 00:10, 2005 Jun 23 (UTC)
- Oh, it must be my user css then. Yes, so it is, how wicked of me. Add the following to your monobook.css to get proper overflow handling:

Earth pic
Hello, I wonder what you mean by your edit [1] when you say its "not our job to fit a photograph to our expectations"...? My upload of the bigger image was not intended to fit anything to our expectations but instead to more accurately represent the true color of earth [2] than does the excessively red version currently in the article.--Deglr6328 02:38, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

Bari sax
Great edits on the baritone saxophone article! Those were all areas that I felt were awkward, so thanks for your good eye. Badagnani 02:45, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
Good idea. I didn't know there was no Jazz Messengers article. Unfortunately I don't know much about them (I'm more into avant-garde jazz). There is also a great group called the Jazz Passengers. Badagnani 12:56, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
By the way, your name seems Finnish--is that right? Badagnani 04:37, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
I've always been interested in Finland and Finnish music and even sing a Finnish tango called "Satumaa" (I play accordion in a street music trio). Anyway, there is a Finnish composer called Mikko Heinio and somehow the arrangement of letters seemed similar to your screen name. Badagnani 04:45, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
How to Program a Computer (From WP:RD)
Thanks for your thoughtful response. hydnjo talk 15:39, 21 July 2005 (UTC)
Hey reisio, many thanks for the input on this page, many improvements there. Any idea what I should do about the images I've uploaded given that the actual images names don't reflect the correct names? Is it a case of delete and upload or just update the description pages? In future I think I'll keep the image names a wee bit more generic... Cheers. SeanMack 08:00, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
- The only image with a filename that's actually wrong (afaik) is the one for the Rockhopper penguins (which is currently labelled Emperor); the rest are just not as specific as they could be. It's no biggie, though, I've a perfect out...
- Since you're licensing all these images with GFDL, just reupload them all to WikiMedia Commons (where they should be), and this time take care with their filenames. Replace the image links in the Edinburgh Zoo article with the new Commons images. Then toss the not-so-greatly-named ones here on en.wikipedia.org into a post @ Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion, saying that they're no longer being used and have been replaced/obsoleted by Commons images with better filenames - mention that you are the original uploader, too. ¦ Reisio 08:42, 2005 July 23 (UTC)
- After you upload to Commons, we can add your great images to the separate articles for each animal, too. :) ¦ Reisio 08:47, 2005 July 23 (UTC)
Compliments will get you everywhere! I was planning to do that when I had the names sorted out. Dunno if you saw the request on the helpdesk or just came across the page? I have held off from uploading to commons as I have uploaded a fair amount of pictures to the wiki and if I start, I feel I would need to do them all. Unfortunatly i had uploaded a fair bit by the time I became aware of commons. Are you aware of any tools - admin or otherwise that would make it a bit faster? That way I wouldn't mind so much doing them all..... Cheers SeanMack 09:17, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
- I saw it at WP:RD, yes. As for the fair bit of noncommons - there's no rush, take your time. You also don't _have_ to, it'd just be nice. Other people might even do it for you, eventually (if the licensing info is available/acceptable). I don't personally know of any tools - you might ask at WP:VP or #wikipedia on irc.freenode.net ¦ Reisio 10:05, 2005 July 23 (UTC)
Me again... "What is it now?" you say. Well I uploaded the rest of the decent shots I took that day and put them in the gallery - it may be overkill but the pics are there for other uses now if wanted by anyone. The problem is I can't identify the penguins again...East African grey crowned crane & Pygmy Hippo are correct, but the otyher two I'm unsure of. The official site doesn't actually note all the types of penguins they keep. Any ideas?
- Best guess is that the one swimming is a Gentoo Penguin (not a lot to see in that photo, but the bright white on head makes it likely), and the other is a juvenile Yellow-eyed Penguin. ¦ Reisio 13:14, 2005 July 23 (UTC)
Once again many thanks for the help. As you indicated the underwater one is a bit of an ask though. I've sent an email to the PR rep at the zoo telling them that I can change any errors hopefully that should do it. All the best reisio, nice working with you. Regards SeanMack 14:35, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
- Btw there's a two-year-old inventory list on their site [3], which supports the notion that they'd (still) have Gentoos. Yellow-eyed is still just my best guess for the other, but I think it's a pretty safe bet - compare Image:Penguin_Edinburgh_Zoo_2004_SMC.jpg with this image I found online. I also read that juveniles do have lighter heads like that (and a quick Google image search corroborates). Maybe some expert will stop by sometime and verify it. ¦ Reisio 21:27, 2005 July 23 (UTC)

Grey's Anatomy and Jem
Salve, Reisio!
I don't believe I ever thanked you for responding to my question about Grey's Anatomy's music. I had asked on WP:RD if it possibly was the Swingle Singers and you suggested it was Jem. Having only today been able to listen to a music sample--I wasn't able to open the links you provided but went through Amazon.com's samples--you were correct. Thanks so very much. 66.213.119.98 23:20, 2 August 2005 (UTC) (aka User:PedanticallySpeaking)

Sax family photo
Thanks for the reformatting. I'll check your code and see how you did it. Should the photo credit also appear in the caption on the main page or is it proper to only list it in the page you get when you click on the photo? Badagnani 20:48, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
Now I notice the photo in the saxophone article is back to the original uncropped photo from Jay Easton's site, with poor contrast. I did spend some time adjusting it so that it would work better in the article. Is the reason you changed it back because you objected to the cropping and contrast adjustment? Badagnani 21:03, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
I'm sure Jay will be amenable to saying whatever bureaucratic bs is necessary to get the photo up on the site. I'll email to ask him this, as you recommend. I used Auto Contrast (then about added about +10% in brightness and contrast above that) on PhotoShop because the shot seems to have been taken around dusk (notice that the walkway lights and streetlamps are lit). With the adjustment it looks more like daytime. I had cropped it so that the saxes would appear comparatively larger but the original photo's composition was quite nice with the buildings in the background. Could be fine to leave it uncropped if you'd prefer it that way. You can adjust as you see fit. Badagnani 21:19, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
Please let me know what exactly to ask Jay Easton and how he should respond so that we can post his response as proof of his proper licensing. Badagnani 21:20, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
OK, just asked him all. I assume that his emailed response stating which license he prefers will be sufficient? Badagnani 21:51, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
Just got the licensing permission from Jay Easton. Can you take it from here and add the proper license (with his stipulations)? Badagnani 23:55, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
Sorry, he spells them out in his email, which I added to the page for the photo itself (not sure if that's the best place for it; maybe I should remove the email addresses too, but I thought it would help so people are assured that his email is authentic. I think he wants the photographer credited and his website mentioned if someone wants to use the photo in the future. Badagnani 00:23, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

I think your version of the table layout looks cleaner than the current one. However, SecuniBot would have to be changed a little to work with it. I'd like to make those changes before the article is actually changed. I'll look into it this week. --K. Sperling (talk) 10:03, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

Spam
Please do not re-add any more Omninerd spam. Dmcdevit·t 23:15, September 1, 2005 (UTC)
- No, I can't see any justification for removing actual valid ecyclopedic content. That would be even worse. I don't see any content that actually novel enought to only be cited by that Omninerd website. As well, most things on Wikipedia are not totally cited, it's not a great solution, but in the short term, I'd rather have uncited information that have either less information, or spam. Dmcdevit·t 23:19, September 1, 2005 (UTC)
- The references don't belong because they are to a non-notable, unreliabe, personal web page, and the references are added by the owner himself. Having those spam links there detract from our encyclopedia. Dmcdevit·t 00:36, September 2, 2005 (UTC)
- Just try to see this hypothetical. What if someone adds information that appears to be helpful, and then cites their personal website? (What if it were like a Geocities one or something like that?) Obviously we wouldn't remove any helpful info, but we shouldn't keep an unreliable citation either. The two are not mutually exclusive. Dmcdevit·t 02:22, September 2, 2005 (UTC)

- 1. OmniNerd is not a personal web page. 2. I am not the owner. 3. Any claims of reliability or notability are completely unsupported. 4. The fact that Dmcdevit opposed the removal of the content from these article is evidence of their value. 5. Information left without a citation is a copyright violation.
- As I've said elsewhere, you can't have your cake and eat it, too. If the sites want to keep the content from the OmniNerd articles, then they will need to be cited. Uriah923 03:27, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

Concerning this edit, why did you capitalize the second word while your edit description links to the very policy you are violating? —Wahoofive (talk) 15:48, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
Dates
You can't use the suffixes "st", "rd", & "th" with Wikified dates; for people with preferences set to non-U.S. formats, they look a mess (I see them, for example, as "27 Marchth", etc.). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:41, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
Origin of Lunar Linux
I must disagree with lunar not having an origin because it is based on another distribution. Many other distributions are based on other distributions, such as Ubuntu, Knoppix, and CentOS. The project started in the US, thus to me, that's where Lunar's origin is, and I'm sure this is how many other distribution's origins are figured. If the origin column were so specific to only be for distributions not based on others, it would become quite useless just because so many distributions are forks of other distributions. That of course, is just my opinion, and being a lunar developer myself I'm sure I'm a bit biased, but if it is to be enforced on lunar, it should be enforced on all forks. -- Striker 22:28, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
- I don't see how debating where all the project's developers were from counts for anything. That can be stated for any distribution as well...I would imagine hardly any distributions have one single location for its developers, not to mention that other distributions based on a previous one will be from the same location. Ubuntu is a fine example of this, since it's based on debian which has developers world-wide. Lunar was forked by Chuck Mead under his new project based in the US, on US servers, thus the origin is the US. -- Striker 23:32, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
- Why are you enforcing this only on the Lunar Linux project, and not all the other distributions listed? Can I not also ask where exactly every developer for a particular distribution was from and find out that some developers lived abroad in other countries? I fail to see the point in your argument that all developers from one line of distributions must all live in one location for it to count as an origin. Everything has an origin, even if it's based on prior work and not all developers lived in the same location. -- Striker 00:33, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
- The line appears in many other articles; Wikipedia's a big place.
- Even if it were "abnormal", that's not a good ground for insisting on deleting it.
- I've discussed this with other editors at appropriate pages, and no-one objected. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:12, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
- If you continue to revert this, and to ignore my message, I shall have to assume that you are editing in bad faith, and treat your edits as vandalism. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 21:25, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
All I had was a peculiar edit summary, which you simply repeated, without acknowledging my message. As to your claim, I suspect that you simply haven't noticed the "hr"s — there are many of them used in this way. I prefer not to give examples, as I don't want to see you remove them. They serve to separate the (irrelevant) dablink section from the article. You seem to be removing it as a matter of personal taste. Consistency is not a good enough reason; aside from anything else, when two things are inconsistent, a decision has to be made as to which should be made consistent with which; your apparently arbitrary decision isn't good enough. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:13, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
- I'm taking the article to RfC. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 20:45, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

non-rhotic map
Hi, your replacement map Image:Non rhotic-whites-usa.png looks good, but it duplicates an error I made in Image:Rdropping.JPG, namely that Charleston, SC is marked as nonrhotic instead of Savannah, GA. If you look at the original map I mentioned at Image talk:Rdropping.JPG you'll see Savannah has several nonrhotic speakers and Charleston rather few.
