Placement of content between Jerry-the-person article and Jerry-the-show article

Much of the content on this page is relevant to Jerry-the-show and not Jerry-the-person, and therefore should not be here. This article could use a good scrub to remove all the show trivia (or move it to the show's entry if it is not already there). Anyone have the time for it?

Council and Mayoral History

The section on his political history is significantly wrong. Cincinnati's mayor was selected by the city council from 1925-1987, if I remember correctly. His own Senate-run website also claims different years in office from what is posted here. I'll do a little research and fix it, unless someone else has the scoop. Rkevins82 00:00, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Underage prostitute?

I notice that the article now says that the prostitute that Springer wrote a check to was underage. The prostitute story is well known; however, I had never heard this underage bit before and I think such a claim calls for strict sourcing. I am removing the reference for now. Campaign

The "Political career" section needs to distinguish among campaigns. The infamous ad in which Springer admits paying a woman "with a check" was during his campaign for governor of Ohio, not for Congress (according to the ad itself).BLHersey 02:10, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

foul language on the show

I recently searched youtube.com for some Jerry Springer Show clips and thus found out it was not censored at all. While on german TV they only show the beeped-out versions of these clips. Plus I thought swearing was an absolute no-go on american tv. So my questions are: 1) How come the JRS has been aired uncesored? 2) What are the regulations for american TV? -Phil from Germany Swearing and nudity is a no-go on American broadcast TV during daytime hours (punishable by hefty fines to the station), and few stations/programs feature swearing/nudity at night. The clips you saw on Youtube were probably not recorded from American broadcasts. It's possible you saw clips from the "uncensored" home video that was for sale a few years ago (and may still be available).

Vanity Comment Removed

Removed- "In a 2001 Romeo and Juliet Camp Drama Play(Directed by Scott Parkinhymer), a refrence to the Jerry Springer show was made." Birthplace

I don't doubt he was born on a tube station, it says so in that story. But I'm wondering if the sources were confused. The tube station mentioned is over ground, so I can't believe it was used as a bomb shelter. Mojo 17:27, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Indeed, although tube stations were used as bomb shelters, I cannot find any reference to East Finchley (which is indeed above ground) be used as one. In Springer's defence, the story must have come to him second hand after the family emigrated to the US, and it's possible that he's got the name of the station wrong. Anyway, it might just be safer to say 'London'. The write up for the BBC 'Who do you think you are?' documentary only given his birthplace as Golders Green (http://www.bbc.co.uk/whodoyouthinkyouare/new-stories/jerry-springer/index.shtml). Also, is it worth bring the stuff about his family's extermination in the Holocaust up the the early life section (rather than the reference to the TV Documentary in the footnotes)? According to Jerry Springer's interview on the Simon Mayo show on BBC Radio 5 Live on the 19th of February 2009, Springer revealed that he was in fact born in Highgate tube station, this information being given to him by his sister.

Medical Condition?

Jerry Springer seems to have developed a lisp. It's most noticeable on America's Got Talent. Did he have a stroke or something. If so it probably needs to be put in this article somewhere.--Coolkid602006 01:03, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Odd sentance?

What's with this: "The episode was uncovered when a police raid on a Fort Wright, Kentucky "massage parlor" unearthed a check Jerry Springer had written for its "services"." Why all the quotes, why not have it read: "The episode was uncovered when a police raid on a Fort Wright, Kentucky brothel unearthed a check Jerry Springer had written for its services." Or something similar?

Removal of jerryspringer.org

I am not sure how this is considered "Vandalism". I also notice you have removed several of my other links on Wikipedia. Can you please explain the malicious nature of YOUR removals? My sites contain great information including pictures, bios, contact information for the celebrity, and more. How is linking them from a Wikipedia article ABOUT said celebrity.. vandalism? I understand you have nofollow - I'm not interested in search engine ranking.. See WP:EL#Links normally to be avoided. This link is not an official site, it is a fan site, and is thus not a reliable source of information that can be used by wikipedia. Item #1 in the list is the most important. There is nothing in that site that cannot be added to this article if backed up with a reliable source. If you have information on your site that you can back up with a reliable source that is not already in the article, please edit the article to add the information. "English- born"

Is that really necessary? He's never identified himself as being English/British and aside from the fact that he was born in London, an accident of birth, he has no ties to England. Most of the "Irish-Americans" or "Irish-Catholics" not born in Ireland have never self-identified as such, yet no-one is allowed to delete such references - even when they lack sources. Yes, he was born in England. That's a fact. He is not English, he is not an English Jew, he is not British. He was born in Britain. "The Springer Show is just actors"

Has it not occurred to anybody that the people appearing on the Springer Show are just actors ? For an european watching the show (I'm in Sweden) it just can't be possible that these people are for real. The whole scenography is so deliberate and planned that it just can't be possible that the afro-american participants could play together and create this well orchestrated drama without both (1) being skilled actors and (2) being well trained against each other. That IS the special thing about the Springer Show and nobody seems to admit it. The show resembles American Wrestling where the audience is "in on the fact" that the wrestlers are show people. Might be the audience is ordinary people but if we would consider that the people on stage would be just ordinary people from the street then IMHO it would mean that ordinary americans are born actors that naturally play such scenes successfully on stage. /gunnar, Sweden—Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.229.134.71 (talk) 10:07, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Birth place This is my only post on this Jerry Springer site: Jerry Sprinegr said on Simon Mayo's BBC radio show (19th Feb 2009) that he had thought his mother told him that he was born in East Finchley Subway station, but his sister has actually told him that it was Highgate Subway. ~~Timnosuke~~

I removed the POV tag placed on this section at 17:03, 5 December 2007 by User:Mrkewhite. I don't see anything POV there and Mrkewhite didn't put any explanation on this talk page. I found the following was removed 00:31, 13 December 2007 by User:24.86.173.74 before two acts of vandalism from that address. Since I'm not sure if the removal was legit or not, I'm moving it here for Jerry Springer experts to decide.

Jerry Springer was born in East Finchley tube station, London, England in 1944. His parents, Julie and Springer, were Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany. In January 1948, he emigrated to the United States, settling in Kew Gardens, Queens, New York. He attended Forest Hills High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University in 1965, majoring in political science. He earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Northwestern University in 1968. He then became a political campaign aide to Robert F. Kennedy; after Kennedy's [[Robert F. Kennedy assassination |assassination]], he joined the Cincinnati law firm of Frost & Jacobs, now Frost Brown Todd.

Has he endorsed for 2008?

The article contained the unsourced line "Springer is currently supporting Hillary Clinton's Presidential campaign". (I added a factcheck tag for it last week.)

Yesterday, an anonymous user changed "Hillary Clinton" to "Barack Obama", but still didn't provide any sources. I feel awkward reverting it, when neither claim has any support.

Citizen Verdict?

Nationality: United Kingdom?!

Come on now, this is a bit ridiculous. For one, British citizenship is not conferred to anyone born in the UK (unlike, say, American citizenship). Secondly, his ties to the UK are a total accident of birth. The man has spent close to 59 years in the United States, is most definitely an American citizen and his British connections are so trivial that they really don't deserve such prominence. -MichiganCharms (talk) 07:45, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Prior to 1983, British citizenship was conferred to people born in the UK, regardless of the status of their parents, unless they were diplomats or enemy aliens (see British nationality law). Springer's parents were refuges, so they were neither of those things. Therefore Springer has been a British citizen since birth. That he has lived his live in the US or he considers himself American doesn't change this, unless you can provide a source that shows he has formally renounced his UK citizenship. I would be very doubtful however, that he would regard the UK providing refuge and sheltering his family from the Nazis as being "trivial". 86.12.245.98 (talk) 20:40, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
