Whatever happened to the long article about Pacquiao?

I am just wondering the last time I stumbled on this article it was long and enormously detailed. Now, it's brief and has been unfairly compressed to a few pity paragraphs. What happened? Or is just I typed a wrong key word (manny pacquiao?)? -- Jimmy Knowles

Fight Night Round 3

In FNR3 they mention his early life. It says he ran away from home and starting boxing. Ill get the complete details later.

Deleted: "Sino ang Tatapos" section

I deleted---for the second time---the subsection named Sino ang Tatapos? for the following reasons:

  1. The particular fight in itself does not deserve its own section, because it is placed apart from the history of Pacquiao's fights (it was placed after and outside the Biography section. For this reason, I moved this information where it should be seen.
    1. Corollary to the above. By the time the November 19 match ends, there will be no justification for giving this specific fight its own section. It will be merely one of his fights.
  2. The original deleted text was not well-written, so I rewrote it consistent with the entire article's language. I rewrote it, but the user who restored the section also restored the original, unrevised text.

Please do not restore the deleted section or attempt to create a separate section for this match outside the history of Pacquiao's fights. --- Tito Pao 21:13, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

$500M?

"In September 2006, Pacquiao signed a major deal with Golden Boy Promotions (GBP), headed by Oscar de la Hoya, which is good for seventeen fights [3]. This development was confirmed by coach Freddie Roach. Under the deal, Pacquiao is guaranteed a prize money of US$500 Million for each fight. With regard to profits made on each fight, Pacquiao will be receiving at least 90% while the remaining 10% will go to Golden Girls Promotions."

That can't possibly be true. The source has an unreliable (but far more reasonable) estimate of $300,000, but it's only an estimate based upon an unnamed "source." Perhaps it's best to not have a figure in there at all. --S.Reemas, Dec. 1, 2006

I think this reference will prove that manny is really from Glan Sarangani Province

We really need references on that claim. --Howard the Duck 15:58, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How then can explain the enormous amount of Kibawe references? And also, it makes sense we won't use another Wikipedia language, web forums, blogs and Philippinecountry.com (not really the best website for these kinds of things) as an appropriate and reliable references. Only the Sunstar ref looks legit but other newspapers either cite a GenSan or Kibawe birthplace. And Sunstar is a regional newspaper; I'd rather trust a national newspaper. --Howard the Duck 05:01, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How much?

Here it is and how many viewed this? The fight ended 2:23 of the 9th round and was viewed mostly by 8,362 Filipinos. Pacquiao delivered 788 punches to Diaz's 463, also landing 10% more of his blows, hurting Diaz most by the 180 power shots that connected. Diaz had been cut severely over his right eye in the 4th round. His left eye was a purple, swollen mass. Bob Arum announced that Pacquiao is most likely to fight November 8 versus 130-pound Venezuelan champion Edwin Valero. "I can fight in November," Pacquiao stated, "Who I fight is the job of my promoter (Bob Arum)." Diaz' had his best payday, $ 850,000 and Pacquiao earned at least $ 3 million.sports.espn.go.com, All hail the new kingiht.com, Manny Pacquiao stops David Diaz in 9th round to claim unprecedented fourth title--Florentino floro (talk) 08:27, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality of Pacquiao's Politics (a line)

"Numerous sports personalities and analysts around the Philippines expressed that Pacquiao should think seriously and deeply about his sports career, which could potentially be destroyed by the dirty world of politics."

I find this line a bit out of the neutral zone, just thought maybe someone could edit it? --Robert Adrian Dizon (talk) 12:56, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, very POVic. Which part of the article is that? --Efe (talk) 13:02, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is part of the sixth paragraph of the Politics section. --Robert Adrian Dizon (talk) 21:14, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rematch? Payback?

Is it possible that a new section would be added? I just find this "In a bout held at Taguig City, Philippines, Pacquiao fought against Fahsan (3K-Battery) Por Thawatchai. Pacquiao sent 3K-Battery to the canvas three times en route to a knockout in the fourth round. A left uppercut to the jaw that lifted the Thai fighter's feet off the canvas ended the fight."statement pointless in its section. Can a Rematch section enough for this statement?

Also, this one "After the Morales bout, Pacquiao was in the limelight again during the first week of February 2006 when a waitress working in a Manila night club claimed that he was the father of her son, born out of a whirlwind affair with the boxer. The boxer, allegedly, was giving the child financial support which was also kept a secret from his wife, Jinkee, until she found out and caused a problem in their marriage, but soon mended." which is in the section of "Newfound Fame", I think that this paragraph doesn't fit fame (scandalous maybe?). Also, a little help with the organization of article might help. Domykneeko1319 (talk) 18:41, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't some credit of the surge of Manny's success be given Freddy Roach? Under his tutelage he won all of his big fights. Maya Levy talk 04:18, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I added this, and want to know if you agree with this edit. Please free to modify. I reproduced these here for your easy reference. On October 10, 2008, Home Box Office started filming Pacquiao’s biopic television special at General Santos City. It was aired by HBO’s for the “Dream Match." Pacquiao conditioning

Can anyone shed some light about his body conditioning with him being hit/tap with a "yantok"/ stick (lightly and repeatedly). Do we have a medical explanation about this or any article on the net? Do we have any account on pacman's camp explaining about this kind of conditioning?

Pacquiao himself stated that the reason why he tap/hit his body, most notably the muscled area of the abdomen is to numb the pain which he feels from the blows of his opponents. It's a brutal training regiment. Imagine yourself getting hit repeatedly by a stick for hundreds of times per training session. That has to hurt. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.138.162.6 (talk) 23:39, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

About the trilogy with Erik Morales

Hi everybody. I suggest that the sections about Pacquiao's fights with Erik Morales and the subsequent fights within their trilogy to be merged into one section. The article looks a bit messy with so many subsections. I hope anybody would notice this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Luisztdt (talkcontribs) 07:05, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pacquio vs. hatton

I Personaly think that the article about the fight with hatton is a mess and needs to be cleaned up. Its simply been added to over the last month as the fight has materalised and is now just a mess of random purse figures and quotes. Does anyone agree with this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tom513 (talkcontribs) 00:26, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nicknames

{{editsemiprotected}} Please change Manny Pacquiao's nickname from The Mexi-cutioner to The Mexican Assassian as that is his nickname , can someone edit this. Also apperently another of his nicknames is Payday, I have tired to put this up but it has been erased everytime. Could someone put that up also?

I think that part of the article is a bit of a joke, and gives the reader no idea as to what the fight was actually like - Pandaros (talk) 13:46, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Torrecampo fight

I have heard that his first "KO" loss was in fact a clear low blow. I think it's worth mentioning, considering the level of his opponent in this fight. 218.195.21.16 (talk) 20:37, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not champion in 5 weight classes but 6!!!

Manny Pacquiao tied Oscar Dela Hoya's 6 division titles in 6 weight divisions with his win over ricky hatton. As you've heard michael buffer before the match with ricky hatton, pacquiao is a 5 time world champion in 5 weight classes. After the win, it's his 6th. And he broke a record by having 4 linear championships in 4 weight classes. So Please edit the 5 time champion of 5 weight classes to 6 because it is. Flyweight, Super Bantamweight/jr.Featherweight, Featherweight, Super Featherweight/jr. Lightweight, Lightweight, and Super Lightweight/jr. Welterweight. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by W2nhbky2j (talkcontribs) 03:58, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I second this. It's a clear fact that Pacquiao is a champ in 6 weight divisions which is a tie to DLH' rcord.
