Season chronology

Hannah Montana (season 3) began production on August 4, 2008 and ceased in early June 2009. Season 3 episodes began airing on November 2, 2008 and were still airing as of June 2009. Filming for the season started a day after the 2008 Teen Choice Awards. Season 3 of Hannah Montana focuses more on how the characters grow up than the previous seasons. Also, Oliver and Lilly start dating starting from the episode "What I Don't Like About You" Hannah's style changes due to her growing up. It will be followed by a fourth and final season, starting in 2010.

Opening Sequence

For season three, the opening credits changed dramatically. Since the new Hannah style change, the opening credits needed to change. The names appear on a scrolling marquee as you would see on a theater. The sequence then changes to full-screen episode clips, in which both season 2 and season 3 episodes clips are included. The new version of the song The Best of Both Worlds was performed at the Season 3 concert, and clips of that were added to the theme song as well. The creators' names appear in the second to last clip. A new version of the switch from Miley to Hannah is featured in the middle of the theme song, as Miley admires a hug between her and her dad in a clip of Hannah Montana.

Casting

The cast of season 3 remains the same as the previous season. Hayley Chase, Romi Dames, Cody Linley and David Koechner all reprise their roles as Joannie, Traci Van Horn, Jake Ryan and Uncle Earl respectively. Recurring character Mikayla played by Selena Gomez is yet to make an appearance in an episode.

Music

The new version of "The Best of Both Worlds" was used both for the movie as well as for the opening sequence, and was sung at the Hannah Montana season 3 concert in 2008. This version is extended to 59 seconds. The full version is featured on Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack but is not featured on the Hannah Montana 3 soundtrack.

Hannah Montana Season 3 started on November 2, 2008 as part of Disney Channel's "New In November", celebrating Hannah Montana's third season premiere. As of July 2009, only two specials have been broadcast. The first is a 50-minute special starring Cody Linley as Jake Ryan called "He Could Be the One" which was first broadcast July 5, 2009, and a crossover episode, "Super(stitous) Girl", which was first broadcast July 17, 2009 as part of Wizards on Deck With Hannah Montana.

Miley decides to go get her driver's license but kicks out her driving teacher because he made her new car dirty. Miley is relieved that she only told Lilly about getting her license, but Lilly also told Oliver. As a result, Oliver then tells everyone that Miley got her license first. To prove it, Miley tells everyone that she's going to drive to the beach party. Later, Miley gets her license as Hannah Montana, but is arrested by a policeman when she shows the Hannah Montana license as Miley. She must prove to the police officer that she really is Hannah Montana. The Policeman's daughter is not convinced that Miley is Hannah, until Miley sings to her. Miley's father finds out about her arrest and drives her to the beach party to embarrass her. In the end, Miley is shown to have a driving license, only to find that her photograph was also embarrassing as her father's photo. On the train ride there, Miley sees the old hat that the guy had bought and Lilly realizes that Miley helped her even though she didn't want her help. Miley and Lilly reconcile when they are in front of the press for the president with Miley mentioning that Lilly is more of a sister than her best friend. Meanwhile Rico hires Sarah to work at Rico's because he knows it will annoy Jackson, but realizes that he isn't happy with Sarah making the shack an environmental place where they don't use cups or plates, and run on a generator for the lights. Oliver is upset when his band fails an audition to play at the school dance and, to make matters worse, Hannah lands a role in an upcoming movie, causing Oliver to feel even more insecure. Oliver avoids Miley for a while because she always gets everything she wants. To show Oliver what an understanding friend she is, Miley decides to blow the next audition with the director, Rob Reiner, by acting like a total diva, but her plan backfires when Rob is impressed by Hannah's acting skills. Meanwhile, Rico ruins the dummy Jackson is going to use for his ventriloquist show, so Jackson uses Rico as the substitute at a birthday party performance. Rico makes Jackson look really bad in front of the kids, but they enjoy the show anyway. At the end, Rico meets the dummy that he had gotten into the wood chipper. Rico says, "You're going down Chucky." This is a reference to the murderous doll in the "Child's Play" film series. Also, when Hannah is meeting Rob Reiner, he insults her stuffed animal and she makes him apologize, ans he says, "I've never talked to a stuffed animal in my life! Except my Aunt Ester at Thanksgiving Dinner. Talk about a Rodent Of Unusual Size." Making a reference to his 1987 film, The Princess Bride. She returns to the program to explain herself, but ends up making things worse by saying that she doesn't like reading and instead waits for the book to be made into a movie. This results in children all over the world doing the same thing. Robbie says she must return to the show to fix the problem but Miley is scared that she will mess up again so Robbie hires Jackson to help her. Miley's attempts to explain herself further only result in more confusion. Miley eventually resolves the problem by telling the truth. Meanwhile, Jackson and Oliver model for a brochure but find out that they weren't chosen to model for the reason they thought they were chosen. When they discover that they were chosen because they are average looking they become angry and refuse to model any more. They change their minds when the photographer offers to pay them both $1,000. Meanwhile, Oliver gets advice from Jackson to develop bad habits so Joannie will break up with him because she is killing him with training for a triathlon. Oliver pretends to be an alien calling the mothership. In the end Joannie gets fed up with Oliver's new habit and tries to break up with him but in the end, Oliver breaks up with her. When Miley discovers that Jackson is planning to cheat on his history test she tries to convince him that cheating is dishonest, but he reminds her that Hannah is being dishonest by pretending to date Austin, who she hates. Hannah breaks up with Austin on live television which allows her to again try to stop Jackson from cheating. Meanwhile Robbie Ray purchase a new sauna from a company run by Rico. His discount doesn't turn out to be what he expected but the sauna still proves useful when Miley finds that Jackson still intends cheating, and has written the test answers all over his body. Lilly is enlisted to trap Miley and Jackson in the sauna so that the steam causes Jackson to sweat, melting away the answers. Jackson finally realizes that he was studying the whole time he was preparing to cheat and now knows the test answers. After a concert Hannah finds Traci in Las Vegas and is shocked to find that she is planning to marry Jake. Hannah, Lilly and Robbie all try to tell them that they're too young to get married but the wedding is still going to go ahead. A horrified Hannah tries to ruin the wedding, only to find out that it was not a real one but is in fact a joke for the TV Series "Gotcha". Near the end, Hannah kisses Jake to prove that she feels nothing for him. This is proved wrong, as both of them are showed to have enjoyed the kiss, even after denying that they had any feelings whatsoever for one another. Meanwhile Rico plans to ruin Jackson's date, by getting Rico's cousins to come and annoy Jackson. However at the end, Jackson's date says that she thinks Jackson is good with kids, and goes in for a kiss, only to be sneezed on by Jackson. Oliver lands his dream job working at a Radio Station as an intern, with DJ Gary Green, but when the DJ suddenly leaves, Oliver lands a spot on the Kteen Radio station. Lilly and Miley do rock-paper-scissors to see who would help him. Miley loses, so she starts to help him out and they take calls from people needing advice. But when they become a overnight hit, Oliver asks Miley to help him out because the DJ got kicked by his wife in the delivery room while giving birth and he got injured. But Miley finds it hard to juggle both her Hannah life and keep her promise to Oliver. After collapsing at a Pet Adoption, Miley finally admits to Oliver that she is too busy to add something else to her schedule. Meanwhile, Jackson is put in charge of Rico's after Rico fears that since he is earning so much money from the Shack, his dad will sell it for a lot of money. After Jackson messes things up multiple times after trying to prove to Rico that he's not stupid enough to get the Shack bankrupt, and the Shack loses money, and Rico finally becomes happy again. Miley repeatedly tries but fails to tell her dad that she's dating Jake Ryan again. Soon, Robby winds up believing that she's hiding something from him. To make her father thankful for Jake, she pretends to like her bad boy band mate Jesse, but gets in over her head when she starts to have feelings for him so it's up to Robby to help Miley listen to her heart and chose the guy who could "be the one." In the end, she tells Jesse that there is just something between her and Jake that is special and picks Jake after some help from a video of her mom and apparent divine intervention by her to help. Robby accepts their relationship after confirming with Miley that she made the right choice. Rico and Jackson just sing background commentary for the episode. Rico appears to know of Miley's secret while singing commentary. Finally, a maid shows the anklet to Mr. Moseby, but London snatches it, seeing it as valuable. Hannah and Lola notice that London has it, but saying that the anklet has fake diamonds, London throws it overboard. Hannah is depressed and wonders if anything else could happen. A storm blows her wig away, her hair dye attempt went wrong (her hair turned green), a rat appeared on her head, and a mirror broke. Hannah's rehearsal went poorly, as well. Hannah tells Cody and Bailey that the concert is canceled. Miley believes the anklet is the only thing that will help her, but her father tells her that the spirit of her mother is in her heart, too. Robby gives Miley another wig and Hannah tells Cody and Bailey to come on and that they are invited to the after party. Hannah has the Hawaii concert, and all is well. Meanwhile, back in California, Jackson, Oliver and Rico open a package that belongs to Robby, and it turns out to be a bounce house, that inflates itself, getting the boys stuck to the window. Rico eventually deflates it with his fingernail. Mamaw comes to visit, driving cross-country in her old car. Miley, Jackson and Robby decide its time to get her a new one, without realizing how attached to it she is. After they trade in her old car for a nice new one, Mamaw is so distraught that they try to get it back, only to find it has already been sold to the junk yard. When they're too late to save it from being scrapped, they must find a way to recreate her beloved car. However after Mamaw realises that they brought home a fake one, she finally gives in and accepts the new one. Meanwhile, business starts to suffer at Ricos' after Oliver gets in a fight with Lilly for forgetting their 100th day anniversary. But after when Rico writes a poem (Lilly thinks its from Oliver), she forgives him. Special Guest Star: Vicki Lawrence as Mamaw Ruthie Guest Star: Troy Evans as Jerry Co-Starring: Jules Williams as Buster Note: Oliver works at Rico's in this episode.
