I attempt to keep conversations in one location, as I find it easier to follow them that way when they are archived. If you open a new conversation here, I will respond to you here. Admins, if you see that I've made a mistake, please fix it.

I will not consider it wheel-warring if you reverse my admin actions as long as you leave me a civil note telling me what you've done and why and as long as you're open to discussion with me should I disagree.

Thank you for tagging the MoReq2 article with "WikiProject Computing" and "WikiProject Computer Science".

I don't think the latter is appropriate. Will someone else just delete that?

The former may be appropriate, possibly. Regardless of that, I'd like to do my bit in raising standards. As you must know. Could you please tell me which of the quality standard criteria need attention to raise it from Start-Class to B or A?

Thank you

MMGarth (talk) 13:27, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If it isn't appropriate, just remove the {{WikiProject Computer Science}} - or follow the link to the project's talk page and ask them if they believe it should stay in scope or not.
For article standards, each Wikiproject has slightly different takes on the standards depending on their specific needs. For Computing, these can be found at WP:WikiProject Computing/Assessment along with the place to list these for review. As a matter of principle, new articles are listed as Stub or Start classes with unknown importance, and the WikiProjects then handle the evaluation process. --MLauba (talk) 14:05, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Editnotice

Hi MLauba. Is it okay if I use the text at the top of you user page (the part that starts with "I attempt to keep conversations in one location") in my editnotice? Theleftorium 20:03, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Considering I wasn't even polite enough to ask Moonriddengirl when I took it from her, yes, you can :) MLauba (talk) 21:55, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks. I'll give credit to her in a hidden note then. :) Theleftorium 22:01, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Melbourne Philharmonic

You deleted Royal Melbourne Philharmonic (RMP) as a copyvio and Royal Melbourne Philharmonic as a redirect to a page which no longer existed. Before Royal Melbourne Philharmonic was turned into a redirect to the other article, I had edited the article (which someone else had created) to remove copyvio text and establish notability. Could you please restore the version of Royal Melbourne Philharmonic before it was turned into a redirect? -- Eastmain (talk) 01:42, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion and history of this can be found at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australian music#Royal Melbourne Philharmonic (RMP) and Royal Melbourne Philharmonic --Mike (talk) 02:36, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Responded there, sorry for the oversight. MLauba (talk) 09:01, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

U Roberto (Robin) Romano

Dear MLauba,

may I ask why you deleted this posting?

I have Mr. Romano's authorization to post the information, as well as the authorization from "Faces of Freedom", "Rugmark/Goodweave" and all other mentioned organizations. How do I best provide you/Wikipedia with proof of authorizations? Please let me know how to best go about re-instating this article swiftly?

Below, I am repasting the original article: (copyright violation deleted) Best regards, Jcowing61 (talk) 19:10, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As has been indicated, we cannot keep copyrighted text on display on Wikipedia unless permission has been obtained, that's why the article has been deleted. Repasting it here is most definitely not a good idea and I must caution you against doing it again.
In order to solve this, please follow the instructions described at WP:PERMISSION, and do not re-create the articles yourself, they will be undeleted by another admin once permission is duly verified.

Regards, MLauba (talk) 22:08, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I apparently didn't do a good job with the International Home and Housewares Show page because you deleted it for copyright infrigement. How do I cite it so it isn't? I do have permission to put the information up....Please help! —Preceding unsigned comment added by LizGere (talkcontribs) 15:37, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Large portions of text, even if attributed, are not accepted unless we have permission to use these. It's not a matter of citation but rather a matter of quantity - while short quotes to illustrate a specific point are perfectly acceptable, an entire article consisting of only a cited text is not.
This is for an obvious reason: due to the open and collaborative nature of the encyclopedia, cited text can only be handled in two fashions: either take it as it is or remove it. In other words, when the entire article is made of direct quotations only, we either have an article made of these quotations, or we do not have an article at all.
So what we need is permission to use and modify their content under the WP:CC-BY-SA license at the very least, this can be provided using the process described at WP:PERMISSION. Once this is received, the admins checking them will restore the content. MLauba (talk) 16:10, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Action requested

Dear administrator; I read an article Islamic Emirate of Waziristan related to Waziristan, Paksitan. It is written that this is an organization but no such organization exists, althoug ther are others. From where does the name Islamic emirate of waziristan come from?? If it is a group as mentioned then no group ever used this name. It is not mentioned in any sources out of the ones provided. The name should be changed or merged with Waziristan. It also wrongly points to other language articles on waziristan (arabic eg) which is not correct as the original article Waziristan also points to the same. Despite lot of time after this objection and no proof provided from any source, the name of the article has not been changed or merged with the original article on waziristan. I request administrators to take action.

I write to you because no decision has been taken since long time even though this has been discussed on the discussion page.

Salman--91.172.125.141 (talk) 15:47, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
There is actually no administrative action that can be taken here. Administrators implement community consensus, and not only does there appear to be no consensus on this topic at all, the discussion also appears to have been totally stale for two years.
I suggest you re-start the discussion on that article's talk page and build a consensus among editors there.

Hi,

This is Divya from Teacher Plus. I have rewritten the article for Teacher Plus Magazine and I would like someone from Wikipedia to help me with updating it. Do let me know how I should go about updating the article.

Thanks & Regards, Divya Divyateacherplus (talk) 07:09, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you have rewritten the article from scratch, you can now place it on this temporary subpage. Otherwise, if you have followed the steps described at WP:PERMISSION, just be patient, the volunteers handling the mail system will process it soon. Name Change?

I have a username registered on Wikipedia that I don't want associated with that username anymore. Can I change the name? Thanks. --173.49.79.197 (talk) 23:55, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Please see Wikipedia:Username#Changing your username. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:02, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On poor timing

Gaaah! I've been wanting to nominate you for adminship for a while, but have been kept so busy with arbitration in the past month that I didn't even notice your RfA come and pass! Well, consider this a combination belated support and congratulations.  :-) — Coren (talk) 12:33, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the endorsement. I was fortunate to be encouraged and nominated by two of Wikipedia's finest, so it's all for the best :) MLauba (talk) 22:28, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I thought I nominated you...oh wait...you mean I'm one of those finest? Now I feel all flattered and warm and fuzzy and stuff SoWhy 22:32, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween from a Moonriddengirl to a very valued colleague.

I am particularly fond of this holiday, and I am particularly grateful for you. I'm so glad you came into the Wikipedia world of copyrights. I can't remember how we got along without you. :) (It will not hurt my feelings if you want to get rid of the shiny Halloween image, though I loved it when I stumbled across it. :D I hope the "card" renders well on your page, because I don't usually make these things for myself.)--Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:18, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're kidding, it looks terrific and I just added it to my awards section. Thank you so much for this and everything else. The way you watch over all things copyright is a huge motivator, to know that one can be at it for years and still keep going, with a smile and always a friendly communication, that's an energy which is truly inspiring and just outright awesome. COPYCLEAN holds together just by the sheer strength of your example, day after day. MLauba (talk) 22:37, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Panola, Texas

I just wanted to let you know that I have been contributing to Wikipedia for over five years. I did NOT copy and paste an articles from the Handbook of Texas. The bot generated tag posted on the Panola, Texas page less than a minute after I posted stated that "If CorenSearchBot is in error: Simply note so on this article's discussion page." I thought that after I explained why the page was not copyright infringement, I could remove the tag. I'm in no way used to getting these kinds of tags on pages that I have created or heavily contributed to. I wasn't trying to get into an edit war or anything like that. Since I have been accused of copying and pasting this article when my intention was just to add content to Wikipedia about this community, I will remove it from my watchlist and make sure that I never edit it again. --Acntx (talk) 12:11, 2 November 2009 (UTC).[reply]

The sentences I deleted from the article were, intentionally or not, verbatim copies of both handbook pages you referenced. I don't know how this came to be, but in case you actually do prepare articles by copying things into an edit window and then reviewing (or paraphrasing these), I have to advise against that practice. Very often, the editor who does this ends up being totally convinced that he removed any trace of the source, in complete good faith.
However, to the later reviewer, the source is still apparent, clear as day. This is what leads to WP:Close paraphrasing, which remains a copyvio that needs to be removed.
In such circumstances, I've found that the best course of action is to behave as if the copy / paste function did not exist in the first place, and to synthesize content from several independent sources into your own words. MLauba (talk) 12:17, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"I don't know how this came to be, but in case you actually do prepare articles by copying things into an edit window and then reviewing (or paraphrasing these), I have to advise against that practice." Again, this is not something I do or have done in the past. My goal was to tell the reader about this small community and my intentions were good. --Acntx (talk) 15:13, 2 November 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Prime transport limited

I had posted my company details on Wikipedia last week, which you have deleted. I am not very good using web like yourself, or at this web site, but would like you to please tell me what is required to keep is viewable. I am officially authorized to use the name and all material used by me in posting the information on Wikipedia.

First, you need to take care of the copyright issue by following the instructions at WP:PERMISSION. Once this is cleared, the article will be restored. Your next issue is the promotional nature of the text - Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not an extention of your marketing organization. As such, all contents of the article must be backed by multiple independent third party reliable sources and conform to a neutral point of view. MLauba (talk) 22:01, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

hi there!

Thanks for the message on my page. How's the mop going? ;) A8UDI 13:03, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Busy, busy. Pity I got the broom + pepper spray version due to cost reductions instead of the mop + flamethrower, I could have used heavier tools :) MLauba (talk) 13:05, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the extension. I actually finished editing it yesterday, but I'll let MRG review it before posting. Mgreason (talk) 14:20, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No bother at all. MLauba (talk) 14:21, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
