Will hurd bio

I have posted a biography of Will Hurd. The reason it was nominated for speedy deletion states that the article is about the person himself, and not his accomplishements. However, the majority of the article talks about his involvement in the Bonfire at Texans A&M University and his courageous work with counterrorism, etc which are all properly cited from newspaper articles and publications.

I understand the rules for biographies are more regulated than any other type of article, but I believe this article steadily meets the criteria of a notable person mentioned in the news, newspapers and on the internet.

I motion to keep this article.

Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by WilliamHurd (talkcontribs) 16:41, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article has been now listed for deletion without further explanation. Can I please have an updated explanation from more than just one moderator?

Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by WilliamHurd (talkcontribs) 17:16, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, the main reason of my AfD nomination is to obtain more opinions. Personally I think your article fails this criterion: The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his or her specific field. Nothing personal; I'm just trying to help to maintain the level of this encyclopedia. --Vejvančický (talk) 21:34, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I just noticed this article. I'm not sure if its worth rescuing or not. Perhaps you are more familiar with the subject?Singingdaisies (talk) 00:33, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Singingdaisies. Troupová isn't the best known singer in the Czech Republic, but I think she meets our criteria for musicians. The article is very badly translated version of this profile at the website of Collegium Musicum Brno. However, I've found other independent sources and indications of notability - she performs at early music festivals and occasionally records for notable record labels. Unfortunately, most of my sources are in Czech language. Check the articles again, please. I've also removed the prod template, I think the AfD and broader discussion would be more transparent. The reason for deletion was strange, unrelated to notability of that person. --Vejvančický (talk) 14:30, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Vejvančický. I understand the removal of the PROD tag, but I now believe that it is an advertisement of this person's accomplishments. I'm not going to take it to AfD yet. But I'll place a NotEnglish tag for dual fluency, so that someone can come in and clean it up and wikify it. I'll look at it again and decide then after that. If you have any other comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to reply to me under this article's section there. Cheers, AeonicOmega(Watcha say?) 16:57, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings and questions

First of all, thank you for your warm and helpful welcome to Wikipedia. I have a question about a picture that I would like to place on an article that I have created. Dr. Edward F. Hills was an important contributor to the TR/KJV issue. There were no articles on him, so I took it upon myself to write something about him. I've got to polish up my article (and right now I am not in my office where I can do some serious citations of facts about the man). My question is...how or who may I speak to, in order to legally place his picture on the article? The picture that I have is the one located at the back of his famous book: The King James Version Defended. He, of course, is dead, so how may I go about legally doing this? I really would like to place a picture of the man, and it makes for a better article right? I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you and have a great rest of the week. Kona Brewing Company

Hi Vejvancicky, I helped update Kona Brewing Company's site and then an editor recently said it sounded like it was written by the company's marketing dept. It wasn't; it was written by me from a lot of sources I pulled information from. Since I got that message last week, I have gone in changed some of the language, but mostly tied a lot of the information to citations and online references. Do you mind taking a look at it now and letting me know if you think it is strong enough now with all the references I added for me to remove the <under construction> heading? You were really helpful with the last article I did. Thank you Plantsuit (talk) 23:09, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Plantsuit. Your improvement of this "beer article" is really good, it is much better than the previous version. You also improved sourcing and I think the {{refimprove}} template is superfluous. If you finished your work on it, you can remove the <under construction> tag, of course. I've found also this edit by User:Gentgeen. I have to admit, that the note in his edit summary is valid. Some of the claims and quotations in the sections Company History and Beer Recipes and Sourcing are not encyclopedic, in my opinion. The examples are here:
  • "A mahogany log lifted from the shores of Kailua Bay (used to adorn the acacia koa wood bar) and rusty corrugated tin from an old distillery helped transform the ink-smudged pressroom into a little hops-flavored oasis,"
  • "the Kona Brewery has been a local favorite practically since it opened. Good food, good local beer (go for the sampler and try them all), and an outdoor patio with nightly live music acts make sure it stays that way."
  • According to Davis, the strategy was simple: “Make sure we made great beer, get it to market, and hand out coasters."
You provide citations, which is good, however, I think that encyclopedic article should stay as informative as possible and should avoid "promotional" tone. It is better to write in a neutral and descriptive way, even if you love that beer :) This is just my opinion. Have a good day. --Vejvančický (talk) 08:58, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dida Alsaffar

Hey I am a Pro footballer (or soccer player if your American) and I was wondering if you could allow my Wikipedia page? It was deleted about a week ago, because I have no articles to show of my career, but hoping to get hold of some soon. In the meantime however a lot clubs look at me on the web, so i was wondering if you could put back my Wikipedia page? Thanks.

Regards, Dida Alsaffar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Swordofking (talkcontribs) 19:39, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dida. This is an encyclopedia. We don't have an article about every football player on the planet. Look at the notability criteria here: WP:FOOTY/Notability. Good luck with your career. --Vejvančický (talk) 09:23, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi.

I don't mind my speedy deletions getting declined, but how was that incorrect? I tagged it with A7, which is several things. In this case, it was a company or organization. - Zhang He (talk) 07:18, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zhang He. The nominated article was a clumsy redirect created by a new user. In my opinion, the article Maestro Wilson Fonseca Airport should be renamed to Santarém Airport, however, it is valid and meets our notability criteria. The {{db-company}} tag was incorrect. Have a nice day. --Vejvančický (talk) 07:38, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FYI

Just a courtesy note - you and I had both left attack warning notices on the same user's page just now - but I have removed the name of the person they were attacking because even that may be bad to have hanging around. Just wanted to let you know I did it because I refactored your comment at the same time as mine.  7  06:45, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Thanks for reminding me that, 7. Next time I'll do it myself. --Vejvančický (talk) 06:49, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well - you did better than I did. I stupidly used twinkle and it put the full article name in the edit summary which can only be deleted by a steward with oversight... Hopefully the account will just get blocked and purged.  7  06:57, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And we have a winner!

Vej, that looks terrific. The orignal failed to establish the notability and it had been tagged as a speedy. Thanks for letting me know you'd recreated it. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 19:29, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agrestius

Hi Vejvancicky, he is Agrestius of Lugo. The article is very laconic really, but I hope that mates like you can help me to extend it. Thanks--Nuninho Martins (talk) 21:33, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the reference to the article. Nuninho, you seem to be more familiar with that topic and you should add references to each of your new articles, it's not so difficult. I've also created Category:Galician clergy, it could be useful for better orientation. Please, respond at my talk page, not at my user page. Thank you. --Vejvančický (talk) 21:55, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rapsódia na záhorácke motívy

Hello Vejvančický, Would you mind helping me with a translation from Slovak to English? Slovak composer Aladár Móži wrote a work entitled: Rapsódia na záhorácke motívy pre violu a klavír -- Rhapsody on _____ Themes for viola and piano. I can't find the correct way to translate "záhorácke". Should this be Záhorácko, Záhorácka, or something else? Thanks for your help. Hrdinský (talk) 23:12, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Could you identify the subject of your article and support it with reliable third-party sources? The current version doesn't meet our criteria for inclusion, as it contains only name and few biographical facts. --Vejvančický (talk) 08:16, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: New Zealand - Malaysia Free Trade Agreement

The article will certainly be expanded on over time, including background, economics etc. Thanks for adding the info. --SamB135 TalkContribs 08:01, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I still think you should develop your article as a section of Malaysia – New Zealand relations. It would be better than split up the information into many little articles. The New Zealand - Malaysia Free Trade Agreement could serve as an useful redirect. --Vejvančický (talk) 08:15, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Johan Andresen

Hi. I'm sorry but I do not understand the speedy deletion. It is not a test page, I used the article wizard to create it. Please let me know if I did it wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alis grave nil (talkcontribs) 13:02, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Alis. The article was nominated for deletion as a test page by User:JMS Old Al. I disagree with his rationale and I've removed the tag. I attempted to support your claims with informations found in the links which you provided, and I added another sources in English language. This is surely not a speedy deletion candidate. Please, be careful when you write about living people here on Wikipedia and add direct citation to every possible controversial claim. Thank you. --Vejvančický (talk) 13:20, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help. I think the citation markup used in Wikipedia is very hard for a newcomer to use, especially those who are not tech-savvy. I suppose you are right that there should have been a direct citation, but I did provide a source to verify it, and can probably provide more if need be. I promise that I'll clean up the article later, so you do not have to work on it further. Again thanks, and sorry for wasting your time. Alis grave nil (talk) 13:52, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, the citation templates could be a bit confusing for a newbie. You can simply add the link to your source <ref>here</ref> and put the Wiki markup {{Reflist}} at the bottom of the article.
  • An example here:

Johan Andresen is a Norwegian industrialist and investor.<ref>http://www.kfsm.com/business/sns-506a7fd3d42d4a08886cf562426d09b5-2,0,1096596.photo</ref>

---

---

---

{{Reflist}}

  • When you save the page, the result is:

Johan Andresen is a Norwegian industrialist and investor.[1]

---

---

---

It isn't perfect, just a basic principle. For better explanation, look at Wikipedia:Citation templates. Hope that helps. --Vejvančický (talk) 14:26, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Newbie treatment

Hi Vejvančický!

Because you interacted with User:Alis grave nil, you unwittingly became a participant in WP:NEWT. I apologize for any inconvenience caused by my edits under that name. However, I sincerely believe that looking at the way new users are treated, and where we can improve, will be beneficial to Wikipedia in the long run. The project is always looking to recruit new, dedicated editors, and I think it is very important that new users acting in good faith feels welcomed.

I think you handled yourself very well, and your feedback is most welcome on the project page.

Again, sorry for the misrepresentation. If there's anything I can do to make up for your lost time, please let me know. Regards, decltype (talk) 09:08, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On third thoughts, I'll reply on the project page. decltype (talk) 16:23, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As for the wasted time, I am thinking in particular of the explanation re. citations. When I first started editing I really had problems understanding them, but I can use them without much problems now :) Regards, decltype (talk) 16:31, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!
