Olduvai Hominid 8 ‎

I write with regard to my short (soon to be expanded) entry about the Olduvai (OH8) foot. It was found by Richard Leakey's father Louis Leaky in the early 60's. I spent the early '90's working on this assembalge at The University of Western Australia. Currently I am working on this and other pedal fossil remains at The University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg with my academic collegaue, Dr Bernhard Zipfel. I am new to writing for Wikipedia, and am learning quickly. However, I assure you of the facts.

Hi...it was barely a single sentence. If you'd like to flesh it out, be my guest. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 17:05, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

about Bettina Varde´s article

I cleaned Mrs. Varde´s curriculum. Also, I never had contact with her in person. Only a few emails asking pictures and data confirmation. I never saw Bettina Varde in person despite we live in the same country.

If actors, actress and dancers born in the USA has spanish wikipedia articles why people born outside USA are forbidden at english version ?

Excuse my poor english. I not practice the language a long time ago.

There are plenty of notable people from Argentina (see Category:Argentine people), but User:Ttonyb1 nominated your article for deletion on grounds of WP:Notability. I see that you've already contacted User:Ttonyb1 about his nomination for deletion, so at this point it's up to you to find some WP:References from WP:Reliable sources to show notability, both for Bettina Varde and es:Bettina Varde. Let me know if you need any help with formatting etc. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 08:40, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

fairs and funfairs

hi muffledthud, i'm not sure the change you just made in the category for "speyer brezelfest" is correct. it looks very much out of place in "annual fair" category, even though it is an annual funfair. oktoberfest and all the other big german fairs should then also be in this category, but they are not. perhaps you'd like to reconsider. cheers.Sundar1 (talk) 11:59, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll revert it now, thanks. MuffledThud (talk) 11:59, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

the page "diane davis"

i recently created a page with the above name. it was not made to attack a person however i do see that it may look that way. i made it purely to entertain my friend (she is the person whose name is the title of the page). i realise this is no excuse however i merely want to make it clear that the page was not made to attack anyone or cause any harm or threats what so ever. thank you.

El Parador Cafe

Hi

I created a page for a legendary restaurant in New York City, El Parador Cafe. It is 50 years old, the oldest Mexican restaurant in NYC. There are plenty of other wiki pages about commercial dining establishments (e.g., the Four Seasons). I was hoping that the page could be properly userfied and then re-launched. Pls advise. Thanks.

Regarding Tata Aria

Hello,

I started Tata Aria which you tagged with speedy deletion. Tata Aria have been launched few hours back by Tata Motors, kindly check Google News or other sites. Therefore it deserves to have its own article.

--Anmol.2k4 (talk) 15:04, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Quite right. I nominated it for deletion, because it was completely empty, but you've created a fine article there now, thanks. MuffledThud (talk) 15:05, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The speedy tag got replaced, but I have declined it because the article now has content. It was maybe rather premature to tag it only two minutes after creation - I know newbies ought to know enough to flesh an article out a bit before pressing "Save page", but many of them don't, and some are less persistent than this one and give up if a speedy tag appears almost at once. In a case like this, I would be inclined to make a note of it and wait 5 - 10 minutes to see if more appears. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:44, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also right. I normally do wait, but was too quick on this one. Thanks for the heads-up. MuffledThud (talk) 15:47, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well I made that silly mistake because of the Beta interface, I am not used to this new interface so was trying to revert back to old one and in process accidentally saved empty article. Sorry about that. --Anmol.2k4 (talk) 16:33, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No worries! Wouldn't have been a problem if I weren't so quick off the button... MuffledThud (talk) 22:35, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Callabona red has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

In production with nothing notable about that production

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Eeekster (talk) 10:40, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, looks like the shoe's on the other foot for a change today, as I'm going to try to rescue this one if poss. :-) MuffledThud (talk) 10:45, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, it looks like you're right. Restoring the prod tag. Thanks for the ping though. MuffledThud (talk) 10:49, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

jamming arabs article, tikirussy

Hello there,

I'm confused as to why my article about the Jamming Arabs is to be deleted. I am no longer a member of this band and therefore I don't quite see why this could be a conflict of interest. In addition, I have quite clearly listed the bands output in terms of singles (one), album (one) and compilation records (two). These albums are still available for purchase however the record label no longer exists hence the lack of references.

I strongly feel that this article is valid and warrents submission. The band, although no longer gigging, had a strong influence on many local bands and there are quite a few favourable reviews of the album out there on the net.

If you could explain to me why the article is being deleted and what I could do to stop this from happening, I would be truly grateful.

Cheers,

Russell —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tikirussy (talkcontribs) 11:23, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, WP:COI is a secondary issue here, the main problem is notability per WP:BAND. I can't find any coverage of them on WP:Reliable sources, but if you can steer me to some I'd be happy to help you rescue the article from deletion. I've been wrong about this before. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 11:25, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Criteria for musicians and ensembles Shortcuts: WP:BAND WP:MUSICBIO A musician or ensemble (note that this includes a band, singer, rapper, orchestra, DJ, musical theatre group, etc.) may be notable if it meets at least one of the following criteria:

Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e., an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable). Okay, I admit that Alopecia Records wasn't the biggest record label, but they did produce most of England's surf/garage music during their time. The fact that the Jamming Arabs were on this record label therefore would indicate that they were an important group in this genre.

Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability. This is a tricky one. The Jamming Arabs were certainly the most prominent surf group in NE England, but it might also be true to say that they were one of the only surf groups!

Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show or notable film, inclusion on a notable compilation album, etc. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article.) Again, tricky. One of their songs (unreleased and so not subject to copyright) was used for Hartlepool Tourist Board but it's impossible to reference this as there was no money involved and so no deals exist.

Has been the subject of a half hour or longer broadcast across a national radio or TV network. The Jamming Arabs appeard on Radio Tees for a live session, DJ was Bob Fisher. The band also appeared in the local paper, The Evening Gazette on a two page spread as a local band that actualy had a record deal. Sadly I can find no record of this paper.

I hope that is enough? It would be a shame not to record this band...... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tikirussy (talkcontribs) 11:37, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think you've answered the question pretty comprehensively there: we have to be able to prove notability for inclusion.
I've been bitten by this myself: I was once in a band that was hugely popular in the city I'm from, but could find no coverage online, and since I don't live there anymore I couldn't get to the local library to search newspaper archives. So the article got deleted, and my Brush With Greatness remains hidden. Maybe the archives will get digitized and put online one day, and I can have another go. MuffledThud (talk) 11:45, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's too bad - I did a quick google for Brush With Greatness and got a load of Simpsons stuff.....do you release any stuff? Now I'm curious! What kind of music did you play?

Onto a slightly more selfish topic, does this mean my article will be published? I would so dearly love for it to be there, as I do (and no ego getting involved!) genuinely believe that the band was a significant band in the Middlesbrough area. Not always the most popular with the Brit-Pop crowd, but certainly a signifcant band none the less. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tikirussy (talkcontribs) 11:53, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, the band wasn't called Brush With Greatness, that was just my lame attempt at humor. :-) Best to let the AFD discussion take its course at this point. I may be proven wrong, as I mentioned, so be sure to post to the AFD discussion and make your points known there. MuffledThud (talk) 12:04, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Urgent action needed for Repeated act of Vandalism by one user and one IP in Western Orissa article

Dear friend...As I have already complained you about an IP 192.85.47.12 who is repeatedly vandalising the Western Orissa article..Infact this IP is threatening me in my talk page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Satyajit_Nayak#Whats_ur_problem)....He is saying his uncle in Inspector General in POLICE and he will register a fake case against me and will get me arrested.....I am taking this as a real serious threat.....Now it seems one more user named Pranabrulez (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Pranabrulez) is involving in the act of vandalism in Western Orissa..He is repeatedly deleting important parts of the article as a result of which I have to again and again revert it back to the Older version......

Request you to please take strict action against the IP 192.85.47.12 and Pranabrulez (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Pranabrulez) as they are abusing and threatening me.....

I have no opinion about the subject, which is fortunate since my opinion has nothing to do with it. If you want to make a major change to an actively-maintained article, or nominate it for deletion, then you need to discuss it on the article's talk page first and get consensus for the change. And personal attacks including threats of arrest on other editors' user pages, like this edit you made, will get you blocked from editing. MuffledThud (talk) 13:51, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mr. Pranab, as I told you earlier that each word in the article western orissa is support by relevent references and for your information this article is here for the last three years and a lot of discussions were done about this article. So you should better refer to the older discussion instead of personally attacking me....There are enough neutral sites which support each and every words in this article..so instead of shouting at me ..you should shout at the editiors of those newpapers and magazines which was referred for the creation of this article...So by shouting you can not suppress the truth.so stop your repeated act of vandalism and move on...Satyajit Nayak (talk) 10:30, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mr Pranab and Mr. 192.85.47.12: What is the point in deleting and vandalizing wiki profiles? There are many leading news agency of India like PTI, IANS, CNN-IBN, India Today etc. are reporting about the things happening in western Orissa or Koshal region. I would say Mr. Satyajit Nayak has done a good job by collecting all these articles in one page. Therefore, refrain from threatening and abusing others. The Tides Of Time

Hi MuffledThud, I am quite new to Wikipedia so perhaps I've made a mistake. In any case, you have placed my article entitled 'The Tides Of Time' for speedy deletion, despite the fact that this is a totally genuine article, about a genuine classical music album (The Tides Of Time) released by a totally genuine artist (Mr. Polo Piatti) and released by a genuine label (Seafront Records in the UK). I don't know why you have done this but I can assure you that the information published in my article is all justified, true and verifiable. I simply wanted to give this album the relevance it deserves after its release. As mentioned previously (and although I have contributed to Wikipedia before) I am quite new and not entirely "at home" with all of Wikipedia's editing procedures, uploading of files, etc. I just need some help from someone at your end with a bit of time to help me publish this article. Please let me know how to proceed. Many thanks for your understanding. I look forward to hearing from you. Magiko (talk) 15:25, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome. The album's existence isn't in question, but rather its notability: please have a read of WP:NALBUMS, and if you still believe it qualifies under those guidelines for inclusions then please let me know how I can help. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 15:30, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MuffledThud, You have accused me of Sock puppetry! I NEVER impersonated anyone. I just used a different address (Magiko) just as a pseudonym in order to protect my identity as an artist while on Wikipedia. I asked you for HELP and you simply deleted my article! You are being absolutely unjust and unreasonable. How can you do that? Is there no one who wants to help enrich Wikipedia instead of acting as a dictator? Magiko (talk) 16:38, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User:Magiko asked for help, but as you have now admitted, that was simply you hoping to get your non-notable album promoted here, and claiming you were "quite new to Wikipedia", despite having been actively adding spam links and other disruptive edits using at least two user accounts since 2007. I suggest you add your points of view on dictatorship and enrichment to the discussion at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Magiko. MuffledThud (talk) 16:48, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is quite sad that you don't get it MuffledThud! I didn't want to promote anything or impersonate anyone. If I wanted to do that I wold have asked friends of mine (computer experts with Wikipedia knowledge) to do it for me. But I am not that type of person. I simply assumed a PSEUDONYM to protect my privacy and identity as an artist and was just naive in trying to collaborate with Wikipedia under that second, pseudonym account (as I have done before) and just made some mistakes (also in past edits). As I mentioned before, I am not an expert on this. Believe it or not, NONE of my past contributions have EVER been either malicious or out of vanity or out of some sort of promotional thirst. The sad part is that you seem to assume people to be vandals without researching them properly. You can check my website polopiatti.com and see for yourself who I am, what I have done in my career in the past, and see that I am a serious artist. I am too old to need Wikipedia as a promotional too. Life is too short for that, MuffledThud! You should know that to abuse your "power" IS dictatorship. I asked for your help and you deleted my entry. I have now asked for help and hope to get a Mentor (Airplaneman). I will then fight your accusations if he helps me bring my point properly. If no-one helps me, I will stop dealing with Wikipedia altogether once and for all. Simply because I truly don't deserve to be treated like you have treated me. Polo Piatti (talk) 17:52, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Let's get this straight: MuffledThud didn't delete any of the pages you/Magiko created. He couldn't have, as he isn't an administrator (as far as I know). The reason you are at SPI is because it looks like you, as Magiko, failed to declare your use of a second account. Furthermore, you used the second account to remove a deletion tag from an article created by the first account. This lead MuffledThud to assume that your second account was used for promotional purposes; instead of contesting deletion with a {{hangon}}, you removed the tag entirely, thus abusing your editing privileges. It is very hard to assume that these actions were mistakes, as Magiko has been fairly active, with half a thousand edits. Furthermore, how (in the world) is MuffledThud acting as a dictator? As far as I can see, he's making sure that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia covering notable (and therefore verifiable). I can see that you (Magiko) are working with User:DESiegel to get the article to a point where notability is not in question. I would be glad to help, except that I will be extremely busy in the next two weeks. Regards, Airplaneman talk 23:02, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. MuffledThud, please feel free to read another post related to this on my talk page as well as the SPI page.

My Brad Chamberlain page

I am wondering how I can create my own page or maybe if someone can for me. I am a MMA fighter and I'm trying to get my name out on the internet. I'm already on Wikipedia for fighting in Vyper Fight League. I would like to have my own Wikipedia page with a MMA style template with my stats, info and what not if possible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bradchamberlain (talkcontribs) 11:02, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. It's almost never a good idea to write your WP:Autobiography. The article Brad Chamberlain will probably be deleted by the admins soon, but it's nearly empty at the moment, so no big deal. If you can find me some info online about you from WP:Reliable sources showing notability for inclusion per WP:NSPORT, I'd be happy to create the article for you. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 11:13, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rising Star Forums Page

Hi. So, I've read through, and I understand what is and isn't allowed, but I'm not sure how to go about fixing them. I'm also not sure what peacock terms are, or how to go about fixing them. I think the main issue is notability, however I'm going to do some looking and see if I can get some outside sources. I believe I've fixed all of the peacock terms, but my view on this is a bit biased so I may need some pointers on that. Also, thanks a bunch for offering to help. I appreciate it. OK, let me know if you want a hand with formatting etc. MuffledThud (talk) 16:22, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would love a hand with formatting actually. I guess what I think the page currently needs would be a directory at the top, and an image or two. Also, the categories aren't divided like they are on most wikipedia pages. I did it the way that seemed most standard, but clearly not. Would you mind doing that, or simplifying how to for me? It feels like a lot to ask, though, so I understand if not.DoaJ (talk) 18:15, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've edited it a bit for WP:NPOV, and formatted it as well, but the issues flagged at the top of the page remain, so more work is needed. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 10:03, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the assistance. I noticed that the page was also edited for Wikiproject: Anime & Manga. Did you do that? If so, thank you. Also, while I'm still willing to fix those issues, I think there are some important developments that should help the case for that page, especially the Notability issue that is the only problem that may not be fixable. Firstly, after discussing it with the owner of the site, she has said that she will require all staff at Rising Star Forums to create wikipedia users in order to regularly edit and update the page, as well as to assist in fixing those problems. This does not eliminate the Notability problem directly, but may give cause for the 'Ignore All Rules' rule because it's a site of anime&manga fans who are more than willing to edit the pages for the anime and manga that they're individually familiar with. This would help wikipedia because they specifically know about anime and manga that isn't more popular, and therefore are the pages likely to need help. Does this sound reasonable to you, and if it does qualify, then how does one go about advertising that the page is not to be deleted? Again, thanks for the help, and thanks for working with me on this. DoaJ (talk) 19:49, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding KMML

I started a article KMML, kerala minerals and metals ltd is a govt owned public sector company. So that I'm not doing any advertisement to it. Thats the only titanium pigment factory in Asia. For more details you can check www.kmml.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by Midhuncg (talkcontribs) 08:40, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine, but you've made the article by pasting copyrighted promotional text from the company's website, rather than writing about the company in your own words. Public ownership of the company doesn't really change this problem. I'll re-write it as a stub. MuffledThud (talk) 08:44, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
