The fifth season of America's Best Dance Crew premiered on January 28, 2010. Auditions were held in six cities from November 20 through December 12: Atlanta, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, Boston, and New York.[1] For the first time, audition callbacks were held the day after auditions, with evaluations by the TV show judges and members of ABDC's winning crews.[2] The show has been slightly reformatted to resemble the first two seasons. The first three episodes of the season featured auditions from each region (South, East, and West), similar to those of American Idol.[3]
Shane Sparks will not return as a judge this season, due to his arrest. Omarion replaced Sparks as a judge this season. It is not confirmed whether or not he will continue to judge later seasons as well.[4]
Crews
This is the first season to feature crews from Canada and Hawaii. Vincent and Nicolas, members of Blueprint Cru, competed in So You Think You Can Dance Canada during seasons one and two. For the first time on ABDC, the Nationals will not have a full breakdancing crew or an all-female crew.
