David, You are one of my best friends here and I wish you the best. May God bless you and your family always! Your friend Tony the Marine 05:27, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
hi - this new catagory of yours has just gone to WP:SFD. if youd proposed it at WP:WSS/P before making it (like youre supposed to) youd have been told that it should be called Category:Fiji geography stubs. it could have saved us some work if youd done that. BL kiss the lizard 11:51, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
- wow! well done with the renaming and things (and thanks!) that was quick! BL kiss the lizard 13:19, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
- i had a look at your user page and it looks like youre one of the "big workers" on wp so sorry to have got annoyed in the first place :) stubs should be proposed first tho to stop this sort of thing happening. BL kiss the lizard 13:31, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
review at alexa/amazon
Hi, I just read your review of Wikipedia at Alexa. I don't know if you can still change it, but the claim "...and is growing at a rate of more than 100,000 articles a day, even on a bad day." seems a bit too optimistic to me? Cheers, —R. Koot 17:18, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
Fiji stubs
I noticed that alot of your subpages linked to the old category, so I thought I'd let you know that the category for {{Fiji-stub}} has been renamed to Category:Fiji stubs. --Mairi 02:37, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
Hi David. I was wondering about the inclusion of IPA pronunciation in this template. It seems a bit unnecessary in what is a navigational template, making it a lot longer than necessary, and also quite hard to follow. What are your thoughts? --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 09:57, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- No problem - if it's helping with your editing, I'm fine to leave it in for now, though I do still think it should come out eventually. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 10:49, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- Would it be helpful if I add the pronunciation to the articles, as I've done with Laucala? --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 11:27, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
OK, pretty sure I've got the IPA in for all existing articles where the pronunciation was listed in the templates. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 14:58, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Request for references for Seru Epenisa Cakobau
I see that you wrote a good bit of the interesting article about Seru Epenisa Cakobau. Could you provide sources, especially for the material about cannibalism?--FloNight 14:09, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you for the quick response. You work on Fiji articles is impressive.--FloNight 20:30, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
Kamisese Mara and Britannica
It would be great if you could document this instance of plagiarism through time stamps or so, and put a wikilink to that documentation into the Village pump. Thanks!! Awolf002 02:35, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
This is a serious claim. Could you substantiate it by providing a few quotes of both the Wikipedia and the Britannica articles, so that we can compare and see whether it is similar? --Teofilo talk 11:58, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
- I agree. I removed the comment from the announcements page because it did not have a cite to support it. Serious claims need serious evidence, and cites to back them up. Can you provide any evidence of copying, and that if any copying was performed, that it was from Wikipedia, rather than the other way round? -- The Anome 14:06, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
You said: "...I take back my charge of plagiarism. I should not have been so hasty to put such a charge in such a noticeable location, and I promise to be more careful in future."
Thanks for the update! It always pays to be real sure what happened, so if it had actually been more serious, we would have it all solidly backed up. Awolf002 16:26, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
Hi David, please help
I would like to request your help with serious NPOV and verifiability problems on the Arabic numerals page. I have mentioned it, yet again, here Wikipedia:Wikiquette_alerts#December_17. Please help me recruit as many neutral and well-intending editors to the page to counter the strong and manifest bias. Regards, and thanks. csssclll (14:43, 17 December 2005 (UTC))

O.K. David, so you don't believe in Santa, but I still want to wish you and your loved ones all the happiness in the world and the best new year ever. Your friend, Tony the Marine 04:59, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
Censoring on Wikipedia:Announcements
Hi David, why are you censoring my contribution to Wikipedia:Announcements without any justification? Riki 12:15, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
- Because the announcements page is not an appropriate place for it. The ramblings of a half-witted blogger who has nothing better to do with his time do not constitute suitable material for the announcements page, or for any other page that I'm aware of. That's all I want to say about the topic for now. David Cannon 12:19, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your explanation. I thought it was relevant, because it is covered on major web sites, such as www.betanews.com. Riki 13:50, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
Help
Hi, I uploaded an image of Ari Meyers within the the accordance established by Wikipedia (source and licence) and someone put it up for deletion because "it is unencyclopedic". The image is of good taste and just because it is a wallpaper image I don't think it should be deleted. Please view and if you can, express your opinion. Images and media for deletion/2005 December 24 Thank you, Tony the Marine 03:52, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
Christmas Gift
Your friend Tony the Marine 07:22, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
That's what I'm here for. :-) After looking at the Ethnologue entry, I think it bears further investigation, since Ethnologue makes it appear that Rotuman is more closely related to Fijian than to other Polynesian languages...which is the exact opposite of everything else I've read. Tomertalk 09:40, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Hmmm. Sounds like a subject for yet another article. ;-) I can see that information featuring rather prominently in History of the Lau Islands or somesuch. I just read through your userpage and thought I'd mention that about a year after you started working on Fiji, I started working on the Marquesas Islands... School and a [now moribund] relationship have severely reduced my free time, but I'm hoping to get back to that part of WP sometime soon. Eventually, I'd like to have an article at least as exhaustive as Isla Sala y Gómez for every island or chunk of rock in the Pacific... Tomertalk 09:54, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Happy New Year
I wish you all the happiness in the world and remember, if an injustice is ever committed against you or one of your articles, I will always be by your side. Your friend Tony the Marine
Note: Ari Meyers Image Results: 15 "Keep" / 2 "Delete" *However, I, the Marine. decided to replaced the image with one that has a clearer copyright status, thank you because you have shown to be a just person. Tony the Marine 06:16, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
Help needed at Potter's House Christian Fellowship
Hi David. I'm having a battle with a guy who is a member of the PH who will not tolerate much in the way of criticism of his church. I wrote an expanded section that gave a fairly balanced view of whether the church is "cult-like" or not but he has removed it. We are in an edit war as we speak. Can you please look at the section that I wrote and decide for yourself whether it is okay... and then try to address the PH member's (User:CFMKEV) concerns. If CFMKEV keeps vandalizing the page then he may be up for banning. Are you an admin? --One Salient Oversight 23:04, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
==Category:Wikipedians in New Zealand==
Hi, You might want to consider adding {{User NZ res}} to the top of your user page, which will add you to this category automatically and also add a nice graphic. Onco_p53 00:46, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
Feliz Día de Reyes
I would like to share with my three best friends in Wikipedia, David Cannon, Linuxbeak and Brookie a Puerto Rican Christian tradition and wish you three a "Happy Dia de Reyes", a celebration that we still celebrate in Puerto Rico every January 6. The night before the children of the island fill a little box with grass for the kings camel and place it under the Christmas tree. When they wake up the following day, they find the box empty and gifts left by the kings God Bless You all Tony the Marine 05:00, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

HólLmfríður Karlsdóttir
Hi, I'm on the french wikipedia but i just saw on the english version that the article of Hóllmfríður Karlsdóttir is has a mistake on the title : Hólmfríður Karlsdóttir could you rename it please (i just opened that account on the english version but i can't do it yet) Thanks :). Patriksson 13:44, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
Yes it's a spelling mistake, her name is Hóllmfríður Karlsdóttir but the title of the article is Hólmfríður Karlsdóttir
Rotuma Day, 2005 (or any other year)
Exactly why do we have to have an overview of the celebration for every year? I don't see us doing that at Independence Day (United States) or Waitangi Day or anywhere else for that matter.
doesn't seem encyclopaedic to me, seems like the sort of thing that should get put in wikinews.
your views?
--Xorkl000 06:40, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- The above goes for the year by year articles for fiji week (Fiji Week, 2004, Fiji Week, 2004), and Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Day, 2005, i'm not a fan of any of these articles --Xorkl000 07:02, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- i think that Fiji Week 2004 is probably a sensible article to keep, as you rightly point out the events around it were a bit more notable than usual.--Xorkl000 12:39, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Talk:Barnaby Joyce
G'day David,
I appreciate your statement that you'd restrain yourself from using your admin powers to circumvent protection, but I don't think the <POV>
tags you added in the same edits did much for the cause of civility. fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 06:41, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
Hi David! :)
Yes, i was here just passing by when i noticed the italian lunatic doing the duke of braganza trick again. Will he ever quit?? I'm very much ok, my non-wiki life is going great, my wiki-life is as fun as always. We are indeed about to jump to 6 figures - we are even preparing a special logo!... I'll let you know when it happens. Cheers, muriel@pt 09:02, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
I agree, its pretty bad. Its supposed to be about a lomaloma title but goes on about the yavusaratu and the vunivalu most of the time. I can't speak that much as to factual accuracy but structurally its buggered, it really should be moved to some thing like History of Bau or something like that. Do i have the time? Not this week unfortunately.--Xorkl000 13:00, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Messianic Judaism Lock
If you're claiming to be fair, then you should also keep the alert tag that lets the reader know there's a controversy being sorted out here.KnessetP.R.Guy 12:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. I shouldn't have removed that. That was a mistake. David Cannon 12:59, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Messianic Judaism Continued Problems
David, you have effectively shut down hopes for this article to have an NPOV. 1. You softened the alert from questioning the neutrality AND factual accuracy to simply a neutrality alert. 2. You reverted the article to a version that mostly questions the integrity of Messianic Judaism. Why would OpenInfo or Eliezer want to engage in refining the article to something other than the present version that 99% of the visitors to the article see? I was working on an article that would have presented the different views of Messianic Judaism. I would have had no problems with others respectfully editing my version in a good faith effort to create an unbiased article. You reverted it to express a radical Orthodox Jewish view that delegitimizes Messianic Jewish expression. What will be your long-term plan if nobody presents an acceptable article on the talk page? I have to admit that I am very skeptical that your method will work and not sure I would want to keep wasting my time and energy trying to make Wikipedia a better place if my efforts only ever get silenced.KnessetP.R.Guy 15:37, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
