Thank you!

Thank ya so much for the kind words on Erie Triangle. I personally think the map is hella dorky, but it was the best I could do with my limited tools. :) Not a local, just a big fan of obscure bits of local history. Spend a lot of time fussing with historic regions of the United States. Not sure when I first heard about it, but agree that it's a neat bit of geographic history. Anyway, thanks again. Really appreciate it. jengod 01:10, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

OK, good to see I'm not the only one with encyclopedic knowledge of obscure geographia. See, I'm an Erie native, and we sometimes think no one knows about us outside of Pittsburghers, who come to Lake Erie in droves every summer. - Sensor 01:35, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

Hello Mike, nice to find in-laws in Wikipedia ;) I think, I made you brother addicted to it :-P -- Krisztina

Wow, I never expected to find family here. Cool! - Sensor 02:48, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm mostly active in the Hungarian Wiki (even been elected to sysop) and make hardly anything else in English Wikipedia than interwiki links for newly created articles - the bots do the rest :) We have a lot to do over there, you know... But it might change later on, it is only a question of time :) --Serinde 17:23, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Urgh, do you spend time translating English articles into the Hungarian Wiki too? That's a lot of work! (If I had to rate my Hungarian skill for Wikipedia:Babel, I'd probably be HU-0.03. :) BTW, you do know that I own and play this, right? You need a photo of the Hungarian version on the Hungarian Wiki - the photo there is the French version! :) - Sensor 02:41, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I know, Chad told me. I checked the article's history, because I found it very detailed and wondered, how many people was interested - and that's how I found your username :)) - Serinde 12:35, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
And yes, I actually translated some articels from English to Hungarian - not more work than writing it on your own, believe me :) but I did not translate from hu: to en: yet, it seems to be harder - for me. --Serinde 12:40, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings from Miskolc

Hi! It's nice that Serinde can get her family addicted to Wikipedia :-) Come and visit the Hungarian wikipedia too, you can even learn some of the language there :-) Alensha 12:56, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I was addicted before I knew Serinde was here! :) Hungarian makes my head hurt sometimes, but it's a neat language. I was trying to edit the page on the tekerőlant to insert a photo of the Hungarian model (I was interested in that because I play the tekerőlant), but I couldn't figure out how to metawiki an image from the English site. I guess I should just upload it to the Hungarian wiki. :) - Sensor 23:43, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I think you should use Wikimedia Commons, so that other wikis can use it too. :) HuWiki can only use images that were uploaded either to Commons or to HuWiki. Alensha 00:02, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. *slaps head* The Commons. Thanks - Sensor 00:07, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the kind words on my talk page. :) It's always nice to have a few random words of encouragement. --Jacquelyn Marie 03:05, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

a misplaced AFD

it seems that the user that sumbitted an Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/St. Louis Mills did so incorrectly, they seem to have put it in a sub page under Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/CrystalPlayer so consquently it didn't look right having two afds on one page, I just wanted to let you know that I have moved your vote and comments and this to what I think is the correct location. -- Malo 05:34, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How would the comedy show be verified? I have videos, but can't exactly send them anywhere. I'm also working on an entry for the community college the show was held at, so I need a little advice on how it could be incorporated and/or why it's necessary for deletion. Thanks for your time.

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. First, please sign your comments with ~~~~ at the end, so I know who you are.
Now, with regard to verification, that's only part of the puzzle. The article was marked for deletion because the faculty bash was not asserted to be notable. Notability is an extremely important element of a good Wikipedia article. The guideline states that something is notable if it "is known outside of a narrow interest group or constituency, or should be because of its particular importance or impact." In the case of the faculty bash, the article as written does not really show how the bash is notable. If you can point to facts that make it notable -- that it won awards, was broadcast on national TV or even a cable channel, etc. -- you might well be able to get it to fit the bill, but otherwise it will likely be deleted as non-notable. This policy is in place simply because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and unnotable things are not encyclopedic.
You would probably be better off writing an article about the community college in general -- which will almost certainly be notable -- and insert the faculty bash as a subheading in the main article.
It's really not as complicated as it seems. Just try it as it goes, and don't hesitate to ask for help at the Help Desk or by asking me.

Image Tagging Image:Kilta.jpg: The Search for Copyvios

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Kilta.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. -SCEhardT 06:21, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Meetup reminder

Just a reminder that there will be a meetup in Newark, DE, this saturday at 3:00 PM. (Since people have complained after previous meetups that they had forgotten about it, this message is going to everyone listed on Wikipedia:Meetup/Newark) Raul654 15:34, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Datamil_ssx_de_map.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Untagged image

An image you uploaded, Image:Scseal sm.jpg, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 13:44, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

POV/Commentary

Please do not add content without citing reliable sources, as you did to Chappaquiddick incident. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. /Blaxthos 03:49, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WARNING: The reason for this reversion may be completely full of shit.
Nice try. Problem is, I didn't add the content you reverted and spanked me over. I fixed a typo and added a couple of citation needed tags. Read the edit history next time. After all, Wikipedia is serious business. - Sensor 04:19, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is why I am beginning to hate Wikipedia. Dude, carefully read the edits of mine which you reverted. [1] My first edit was simply correcting a typo and adding a citation needed tag. Then I added two citation needed tags and fixed some spelling. [2] [3]
Someone else added that line about the OJ Simpson trial. I'm a copyeditor, not a research verifyer. I added no content "without citing reliable resources", as you claimed I did.
Next time you choose to revert an edit and warn the prior editor thereof, kindly check the history more carefully.
And please drop the "if you need to experiment, please use the sandbox" line. That was unnecessary and patronizing. I've been involved with Wiki projects for a long time, and I know full well what the sandbox is for. So much for assuming good faith, eh? - Sensor 04:10, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Sorry if you got hit with a warning that wasn't for your edits. Mistakes happen, and it's really not a big deal.
  2. Replying with "completely full of shit" doesn't do anything but make you look like you overreact and respond inappropriately. Please try to assume good faith yourself, in that perhaps it's not some renegade or malicious editor trying to make you look bad, but a case of mistaken identity (an honest mistake).
  3. Please note that the text posted to your page is from a standardized warning template. I did not choose to be "patronizing" or add "useless content" to your talk page.
To quote your own reply... "so much for assuming for good faith, eh?" Don't take it so personally or so seriously, guy. /Blaxthos 15:20, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Bethanyseal.png. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:37, 12 September 2007 (UTC). Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Sussex county flag.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Sussex county flag.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:56, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Balalaika Russe.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Balalaika Russe.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 09:04, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your thoughts on a new article

Hi. A few years ago, you were a great help when I wrote my first article about journal_club. At the time, I was very excited to contribute to wikipedia, and by the revolutionary role JournalReview.org was playing in the medical community. My enthusiasm led me to make the mistake of offering external links to this project in a fassion that recently has been interpreted as spam. Although no links have been offered to JournalReview.org in almost two years, in Feb 08 the website was placed directly on the blacklist (bypassing the nomination phase). There are several reasons why I found this action to be overly aggressive, not to mention that there had never been a warning made to me, about the links, or any other method tried to suggest that these links were not appreciated. I offered my perspective and appologized on the blacklist forum to ask for reconsideration, but my request was denied.

Be that as it may, to demonstrate notability of the project, I have started a draft on my talk page of an article specifically about journalreview.org. I recognize that the article will undergo careful scrutiny as it will require a whitelist requests. I wanted to give the article the best chance of success possible, and was hoping that you might offer some feedback if your time allows.

File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Spoons.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum

Hi Sensor,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

  • Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
  • It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
  • Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.
  • I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.
2. If you're a law student,
(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)
3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.
