Organization

The School is registered as a not-for-profit, non-commercial institution and is managed by an Executive Committeethrough the Executive Director under the overall control of an independent Board of Governors comprising of distinguished educationists, artists, architects, industrialists, bankers and media-men in addition to the three members nominated by the Governor of Sindh. The Governor of Sindh is the patron of the school.

The formal four-year programmes in Fine Arts and Design and the five-year programme in Architecture commenced in September 1990 with the admission of 45 students in the first semester. The number has progressively increased and in January 2000, the intake has been 120. Currently, 426 students are enrolled in the School. Twelve batches of Fine Arts and Design students and Eleven batches of Architecture students have graduated.

With the support of philanthropists and well-wishers the School acquired a piece of land in KDA Scheme No.5, Clifton, and built its custom designed campus which became operational in 1994. Shortly afterwards, the School undertook a unique project of relocating the Nusserwanjee Building, a hundred year old landmark of Karachi, the the new campus. This building which is part of Karachi's architectural heritage, was dismantled from its original stone site stone by stone and is now under reconstruction at the School Campus. The four-storey East Wing is expected to be completed by December 2003 and the three-storey West Wing in December 2002. When completed the two wings will give the School an additional space of 25,000 sq. ft.

Committees

In the last 7 years, as the Association itself has expanded to include many more interested volunteers, the number of things we want to accomplish also grows higher. At the start, several committees were initiated, for which the Board of Governors established viable objectives for certain time periods. These committees were put together to fulfill certain needs, undertake certain projects and keep the enthusiasm and excitement level high. In order to keep these committees alive and kicking, fresh minds are imperative, and we are always looking for new volunteers, new people, new ideas and undertakings.

IVS Students Council (IVSSC)

At Indus Valley, the Student Council is comprised of individuals who are willing and ready to perform and direct change for the student body and the institution. The council thrives on coordinating co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, community service, promoting cultural exchange, & creating awareness for social and civic responsibility. All events and activities are channeled through a proper panel comprising of department heads, coordinators, school administration and respective year representatives. Many requests, queries and proposals are almost always brought forward by the students themselves. The council is there to bridge communication between the Institution and its students. It is there to ensure voices and concerns of the students are heard and the Institution lives up to its prestige and pride. As per tradition, the council members are elected under the ideology of Democracy. The Student Council Elections for 2010 were conducted in April of 2010 to ensure that the new council was ready and decided for the new term.
