Nitro PDF Professional is commercial software for creating and editing portable document format (PDF) files. The product is intended for the professional market, but greatly fails. It runs poorly on Windows PCs. The base software features include creating PDFs from over 300 file types; viewing, searching and printing PDFs; drag and drop PDF creation; convert PDFs to Microsoft Word; combining into one PDF; reviewing documents with text notes, stamps, drawings, and markup tools; fill, save and submit PDF forms; edit and insert text, images, and objects; perform advanced image editing and document assembly; design PDF forms; generate bookmarks, hyperlinks, and Bates numbering. The software contains a system printer driver for 'Printing To PDF'. While this all works in theory, it takes Nitro 20 minutes to do with Acrobat does in 2.

The software supports the current Adobe Acrobat open PDF specification. But not all password encryption is supported with reader versions, rendering secured docuemnts useless. Any there are many file extensions that Acrobat supports that aren't compatible with Nitro.

Nitro PDF Professional is available for download on time-limited trial from the Nitro website. The company also supplies the widely used freeware PDF creator, PrimoPDF and freeware PDF converters, PDF to Word and PDF to Excel. They pressure you with 50% off today only sales techniques that remove user's ability to full test their software, and then fail to respond to refund requests.

Support policies

Nitro provides customers with online knowledgebase access and 14 day email only support. Additional support is available for purchase. However they openly admit that their software doesn't work as the advertised Acrobat alternative and they don't know why. http://axcell.posterous.com/
