Template:Infobox Indian jurisdiction Rajura (Marathi: राजुरा) is a city and a municipal council in the Chandrapur district of the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Geography

Rajura is located at 19°47′N 79°22′E / 19.78°N 79.37°E / 19.78; 79.37[1] in Maharashtra, the second most populous and the third largest in area of India's 28 states. The city has an average elevation of 181 metres (593 feet). Rajura lies on the banks of the Wardha River and falls within the coal belt of Central India.

Demographics

According to the 2001 Indian census[2], Rajura has a population of approximately 25,843 (52% male, 48% female). Children under age 6 constitute approximately 15% of the population. Rajura's average literacy rate of 72% (77% among males, 67% among females) significantly exceeds the national average of 59.5%.

Industries

Rajura lies in the heart of the coal- and cement-producing areas of Maharashtra. Due to the availability of minerals and raw materials in the area, there are a number of cement factories in the city, including Ambuja, UltraTech Cement, Manikgarh, Gupta Coal, and Murali Agro.

Places of interest

Many temples are located within and around Rajura, including the famous Hanuman temple situated around the lake in Jogapur, about 10 km from Rajura, and the Shri Saibaba temple, the "chota shirdi" in Maharastra on the Wardha River. Every Thursday, prayers are offered to Shri Saibaba, followed by Mahaprasad, arranged by Anna dan seva samit. Additionally, the town of Somanathapura, located in the neighboring Mysore district, holds another famous temple, Somnath Mandir, which, according to legend, was built in a single day.

Other ancient places of interest include Shri Balaji Mandir and Shri Shiv Mandir (where Shri Swami Samarth Aradhana prayed every Thursday).

Marketplace

Rajura has a marketplace which caters to the surrounding cement factories and villages. Medical and general stores in the market include Gothi Medical Store, Noori Medical Store, Ganesh Medical Store, Mahaveer Trading Company, and Jhanwar Provisons and Showroom. Other businesses include SUB Computer Showroom, a best Sales-Service Partners in Rajura, Sansar Collections, Taj Pan Center, Vishu Pan Center, Datatraya Jewelry Shop, Arjunbhai-Ishwerbhai Patel, and Soundharya Derpan Jenrals.
