Sun Valley High School is a high school in Sun Valley, Los Angeles, California. It is a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The principal of the school is Paul Del Rosario.

History

Sun Valley High School opened its doors on Wednesday September 9, 2009 on what was formerly the Richard E. Byrd Middle School campus. Sun Valley High School opened as a secondary school in the Sun Valley area to relieve overcrowding at John H. Francis Polytechnic High School.[1]

The school opened in fall 2009 to 9th, 10th, and 11th graders. It was remodeled from the preexisting Byrd Middle School which was relocated across the street from Francis Polytechnic High School. The school includes a new basketball gym, new classrooms and science labs, and an extended library. The first year of the school did not include any seniors. The first graduating class will be the class of 2011, which were the school's first juniors. The school's color's are burgundy red and yellow. The mascot is the wildcat.

Sports

When it comes to sports, the school has a boys' and girls' soccer team, a drill team, a girls' softball team, and, beginning in 2010/2011, basketball, football, and volleyball teams. Though as expected, their teams did not do well the first year, but things are shaping up quite well for the future teams LOL.

SLCs

The school is broken down into three small learning communities: Water, Energy and Technology (WET); Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism (HRT); and Arts, Media and Entertainment (AME). Each small learning community has an administrator and its own counselor.

The opening relieved Francis Polytechnic High School and Verdugo Hills High School.[2]
