One Direction

One Direction are an English boyband, consisting of members Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. They finished third on the seventh series of ITV reality talent show The X Factor. Following The X Factor, the group signed a £2 million record contract with Syco.

History

2010: The X Factor

The band is made up of Liam Payne (born 29 August 1993 in Wolverhampton), a music technology student at City of Wolverhampton College,[1][2] Louis Tomlinson (born 24 December 1991[citation needed] in Doncaster), a student at Hall Cross School[3] Niall Horan (born 13 September 1993) in Mullingar, Westmeath, Ireland), a student at Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar.[4] Harry Styles (born 1 February 1994) from Holmes Chapel, Cheshire) a student at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School[5] and Zayn Malik (born 12 January 1993),[6] from Bradford,[7] a student at Tong High School.[8] They applied as solo candidates to the competition, but failed to qualify for the Boys category. After a suggestion by guest judge Nicole Scherzinger, the five teens were put into a band, thus qualifying for the Groups category.

After the elimination of F.Y.D., Diva Fever and Belle Amie within four weeks they were Simon Cowell's last act in the competition. However every week they received much praise from the judges.

One Direction finished third behind runner up, Rebecca Ferguson and winner, Matt Cardle.

Immediately after X Factor they released the single "Forever Young", [disambiguation needed]which would have been what they performed if they had won.
