Acid Bath is a heavy metal band from Louisiana, USA, specifically of the genres Sludge, and Doom. They formed in 1991. Soon after their first demo was released, Acid Bath were signed to the Rotten Records recording label . "When the Kite String Pops" was released in 1994 followed by "Paegan Terrorism Tactics" in 1996. Acid Bath toured with such bands as Brutal Truth, Pungent Stench, and labelmates DRI.

Biography

After two well received albums, Acid Bath's career came to an abrupt and tragic close in 1997 when bass guitarist Audie Pitre and his parents were killed in a drunk driving accident (the other driver was at fault). This effectively brought Acid Bath to an end, with the other members finding themselves unable to carry on in the same spirit. While rumors of another album circulated after the band's end, nothing new surfaced.

Dax Riggs and Mike Sanchez, however, did go on to perform in Agents of Oblivion releasing one self-titled album until that also ended. Dax formed and is currently in Deadboy and the Elephantmen. Sammy Duet was once a member of Crowbar, but has since, left the band. He is now a member of black metal bands Goatwhore and Ritual Killer and his doom metal band with Kelly Pitre (the brother of Audie) Vual. Audie formed a unique band in 1997, blending death metal vocals with the heavy sound of 2 bassists with no guitars, known as Shrum.

Musical legacy

Despite only releasing two albums, as well as a number of CDs of radio edits and some label-endorsed bootlegs, Acid Bath have gained a strong underground following owing to the unique, experimental nature of their music. Acid Bath are best known for blending extreme, grindcore influenced sludge metal with a mixture of death metal growls and melancholic goth/grunge-style vocals and acoustic guitar passages, as well as use of sampling and the spoken word. This unique musical blend still gains the band much critical acclaim almost a decade after their untimely demise. However, apart from their two Rotten Records releases, Acid Bath merchandise is fairly rare, which only serves to heighten their cult appeal.

Agents of Oblivion

Playing a "Gothic sleepy blues" style of music, as they call it, Agents of Oblivion produced a, for the most part, mellow, bluesy, Southern style of rock, complimented perfectly by Riggs' crooning vocals.

Originating in Houma, Louisiana, Agents of Oblivion produced only one album (self-titled), released on Rotten Records which included two cover tracks, they were:

  • Cosmic Dancer - T. Rex
  • Dead Girl - Acid Bath
