Target of redirect: Samant Chauhan

Reason: Article about indian designer samant chauhan

Source (if applicable): User:Romsha Singh

Romsha Singh 10:58, 29 September 2011 (UTC) amant Chauhan, is a Delhi-based fashion designer who designs for both Men and Women. He works with ‘Ahimsa’ silk bringing it to the fashion vanguard, hence, redefining the concept of “Silk” in India. His works are simple, basic, clean-cut, natural and functional aspects, yet contemporary. He uses natural fibers that describe his self-explanatory, personal style as ‘Time-less & utopian street-wear.’ Fashion remains not just a popular trend, but also a very basic form of representation that is always conceptual in his collections. He has believed in exploring his native Bhagalpur skill while working with the weavers in the production of innovative fabrics and fresh designs. His patent colors remain very earthy – the shades relating to nature.

EARLY LIFE & EDUCATION

Samant Chauhan was born in a village called, Dharhara, situated in the Munger District of Bihar. He moved to Jamalpur (closer to Dharhara) in the same district, for education purpose and was enrolled in Kendriya Vidyalaya. In 2002, after the completion of his graduation in Physics from Bhagalpur University, he applied for M. Tech. (Masters in Physics) at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur among others. At the same time, he also applied for NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Designing, India) and owing to more inclination towards filmmaking, graphics and photography; he chose NIFT above the others. In 2004, Samant graduated in Textile & Fashion Designing.

CAREER

Samant Chauhan is an Alumnus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, India. Having won three awards in 2004, for most innovative fabric development & best design collection, he worked on multiple projects. There on, in Kolkata’s NIFT confluence, he got the best design collection award for the year 2004. He worked for a very reputed export house for a period of one year where he gained managerial skills and learnt the tastes of international biggies. Since the time, Samant started his own line, he brought the already existing trend of 'Ahimsa' silk to the forefront, and has continued to work towards enhancing the skills of the Bhagalpur weavers from his native district.

RECOGNITION

Samant Chauhan is an Alumnus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, India. He started his most-coveted journey after completing his Post Graduation in Textile & Fashion Designing.

Victoria On Wheels The Common Wealth Games 2010 hosted by India saw a group of 34 Indian designers creating and styling the desi and the most widely used means of Indian transportation called 'the cycle rickshaw'. Amongst them was Samant Chauhan's 'Victoria on Wheels.

British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award Programme On October 5, 2010, Samant Chauhan, was at Bal Samand Heritage Resort, Jodhpur presenting a stunning show organized by The British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award programme. This exclusive event was organized for Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and The Earl of Wessex at their recent visit to Jodhpur and was also attended by the Maharaja and Maharani of Jodhpur and invited guest.

Their Royal Highnesses, Prince Charles and wife Camilla seemed impressed with his creativity, which helped provide an insight into the Indian fashion industry, one of the world’s fastest developing and most dynamic economies. Prince Charles took a lot of interest in knowing about the kind of work he does and unexpectedly, he spent much of his time in understanding the Bhagalpur silk craft. He was curious enough to understand, how the award won by him helped him in creating value for Samant’s brand in the U.K. During the conversation, he also, explained him how the subsequent winners of that event and the U.K. based designers with whom he was working have helped him in his business development in the U.K. A tie made of Bhagalpur silk was gifted to both, Prince Charles and Prince Andrew which they personally adored and later, wrote a letter of appreciation to him.

Eco Fashion by Sass Brown US-based Sass Brown, a professor at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York, in her new book, ‘Eco Fashion’; talks about Samant’s work and has featured him as one of the leading designers who promote eco-friendly clothes. In the book, his Silk Route Collection made out of 100% Raw Bhagalpur Silk that has been featured. Hailing from the land of traditional silk weavers (Bhagalpur, Bihar), Samant’s awe towards the raw sophistication of this poor cousin of the much celebrated, silk is depicted. Also, his introduction of the natural colours to the fabrics produced in the Bhagalpur region is high-lighted. The embroidery is created out of recycled wastes and the patterns are based on zero wastage. This book shatters the global myth that only simple and very basic looks can be created by sustainable fashion. The idea is to bring the world, the significant fashion that mostly goes unnoticed - both in terms of the desirability factor and the usefulness of the eco-friendly fashion.

Book Contributed to Usha Sewing School in 2007 USHA International is the first individual corporate body to start sewing schools across India. Every year around, 14000 students are trained in ‘Sewing & Design’ and ‘Embroidery’, through the book, which was Designer, Samant Chauhan’s contribution to the school in 2007. It is a training programme book that is dedicated to all the learners at USHA’s Sewing School compiling the lessons on stitching at all levels. The basic stage, where you start stitching and you get irregular partial zigzag lines; the subsequent stage is when you know how to stitch and you have full mechanical control getting a flawless straight line through it. By following these steps given in the book, a learner not only acquires stitching skills but also, learns the art of formulating designs out of the not-so-perfect stitching practices. In the conclusion of the book, Samant has shared his thoughts on how to form your learning as a design feature. The designer even discusses the different types of embroideries, how to create them and also, how to blend two or three diverse embroideries together forming something fresh and ground-breaking. Samant was asked to engrave this book owing to his close proximity to the USHA School in his early graduation days along with his hard work, creativity, dreams and vision that was ahead of all times.

FUTURE PLANS

Village of Monivea designs Taking his motivation to promote the dying Bhagalpur textiles forward, a project is underway for the eco-friendly designer to revive the dying linen in the village of Monivea in Ireland. Under this project, Chauhan will be creating a marriage of the linens from the Irish Village Monivea to the silks of the Indian Bhagalpur Village and blending them with the cottons to make it suitable for the climates in each country. Chauhan aims to revive the linens in the Monivea, Ireland that lie now in partial ruins.

He was to design costumes for Ram Gopal Verma’s upcoming film, but unfortunately, it is on a hold as of now.

Rajputana With a view to expand his label in the Indian Bridal market, Chauhan is about to launch his new collection under the name, "Rajputana" in the upcoming Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week SS'12. This venture is also inline with his Rajput-Rajasthani origin. This collection will depict the true Victorian influence on the Rajputana during the British rule in India.

Expansion Plans Though quite visible in the Indian market, he is planning to launch exclusive stores across the country.

Target of redirect: National_University_of_Malaysia#Institutes

Reason: SEADPRI or SEADPRI-UKM is an abbreviation for Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Institute, a research institute in the National University of Malaysia (Malay: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, abbreviated as UKM)

Source (if applicable): http://www.ukm.my/seadpri SEADPRI, the institute http://www.ukm.my/v3/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=128&Itemid=243&lang=en The University main site depciting the institute

Glovis (talk) 06:04, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. A redirect from SEADPRI is not necessary because there are no incoming links and the search box is not case sensitive; readers will instead be directed to Seadpri which already redirects to National University of Malaysia#Institutes. Huon (talk) 12:32, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
