Template:Infobox reality music competition The Voice of Ireland is an Irish reality talent show. It began airing on 8 January 2012.[1] It replaced The All Ireland Talent Show. Auditions for The Voice of Ireland took place at the end of 2011.

It airs on RTE One. Kathryn Thomas presents the main show, while Eoghan McDermott co-presents. Bressie, Kian Egan, Sharon Corr and Brian Kennedy are the coaches.

Selection process

Auditions

Auditions took place at the end of 2011. The closing date for applications was Monday, 19 September 2011.[2]

Episodes

Blind Auditions

The Blind Auditions took place at The Helix, Dublin, between 26 and 31 October in front of a live audience. The coaches choose teams of artists through a blind audition process. Each coach has the length of the artists' performance to decide if they want that artist on their team. Should two or more coaches want the same artist, then the artist gets to choose their coach. Once the coaches have picked their team, they are to pit them against each other in the ultimate sing off; The Battles.

Episode 3: Blind Auditions 3 (22 January)

The coaches meet some familiar faces from their past.[4] The coaches are booed by the audience for their failure to pick appropriate acts.[5]

Episode 4: Blind Auditions 4 (29 January)

Ryan O'Shaughnessy, the actor who used to play little orphaned Mark Halpin in Fair City, performs "The Power of Love".[6]

Episode 5: Blind Auditions 5 (5 February)

The coaches meet another familiar face from the past - Alan Fitzsimons from OTT! Will Kian Egan recognise him?[7] A face from Bressie's past also turns up.[8] This is the final round of Blind Auditions.[9] Colin Hand from Bangor put his heart and soul into his performance of Smile. It was one of the most convincing and flawless performances on the show to date. Colin was singing about his beautiful daughter Charlotte who has a rare genetic disorder known as Rett Syndrome. Brian said that he "hears buckets of potential" in Colin. Colin Hand, Alan Fitzsimons, Carolann Haskins, Dervla Magennis, Elliott Canavan Doyle, Kyle Kennedy, Sharon Gaynor, Kim Hayden and Ingrid Madsen all made it through.[10]

Battles

On Thursday, 24 November and Friday, 25 November, each coach's artists performed at The Helix for The Battle Rounds. Each team of artists were mentored and developed by their coach. In this stage, two artists from the same team, battle against each other by singing the same song, with the coach choosing which artist to send through to the live shows.

Eight were eliminated and eight made it through.[11]

Live shows

The Live Shows will begin at the start of 2012. The remaining artists will compete against each other in live TV broadcasts at The Helix. The viewers will help decide who advances and who exits the competition. When one artist remains for each coach , the artists will compete against against each other in the finale. The winner of the show will become The Voice of Ireland and get offered a contract with Universal Music worth €100,000.
