Latur Pattern

Latur Pattern is a phrase that is recently evolved in Latur. Latur Pattern has emerged as a standard for Secondary, Higher Secondary and University Education in Maharashtra. This technique of education has been widely adopted in other places of the state, due to its consistent and successful track record at producing excellent results. The emphasis is more on completing the course-work early in the year and then focusing on practicing for the examinations. The Latur Pattern of study involves continuous and methodical practice of model question papers months before the board exams. This methodology, however, has been lambasted by educationists who consider it a tool to gain temporary advantage, that does not prepare them for advanced learning. Later Latur Pattern was used to describe various other achievements which Latur City & District have made across the state or country. Even the outstanding progress the city makes in development due to the political leadership at Latur also came to known as Latur Pattern.

Basic education

Schools in Latur are either run by the LMC, in which case they are called public schools, or privately by trusts and individuals. Private schools have been preferred by a majority of city residents because of better facilities, and in some cases, for the use of English language as the medium of instruction. A number of Marathi medium schools are more than a 50 years old, notable among them include Deshikendra & Rajasthan Schools. All schools are affiliated either with the Maharashtra state SSC Latur Board or the all-India Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and CBSE boards.l

University education

All professional colleges in Latur are affiliated to the Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University. Latur has more colleges than any other city in the University. With the emerging talent in Latur, the then Chief Minister Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh approved a University Sub Cente| in Latur, which is being taking shape in Rameshwar, 12 k.m from Latur.

The M.S.Bidve Engineering College, Latur, founded in 1983, is one of the oldest engineering college in Marathwada. The Maharashtra Institute Of Medical Sciences & Research was founded in 1988 by, social activist Vishwanath Karad. This trust currently maintains and operates 63 institutes in and around Latur.

Dayanand Law College, established by the Dayanand Education Society is one of the top ten law schools in Maharashtra. Established medical schools such as the Government Medical College and Manjara Ayurvedic Mahavidyalaya train students from all over Latur and Maharashtra are amongst the top medical colleges in Marathwada. The medical, dental and nursing colleges in Latur are affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (Nashik). Latur houses medical colleges that make it to the top ten in the state MIMSR(Maharashtra Institute of Medical Science & Research Medical College) and GMCH (Government Medical College & Hospital).

The SRTMU's Sub-Center, is located at Latur.

Latur is host to several excellent educational institutes specifically dedicated to Defence forces. They are:

• Border Security Force— BSF, is located at Chakur, on the outskirts of Latur.

The Disaster Management Training Institute, was established in Latur in 2008.
