Rollyo POV

Sorry about that, I'm not very good when it comes to making my articles NPOV. Most of the information was taken directly from the website. I myself have never used the product, and simply tried to reword what they had already given. I'd be more than happy if you could make it NPOV. --«Θ» zeerus 16:46, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I need another AWB cleanup thingy on it, I just moved around the whole thing and probably created tons of whitespace. Thanks, Rory096 05:55, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No whitespace, just a bit of a cleanup with category. Computerjoe's talk 15:17, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re: Neuschwanstein

I don't edit Wikipedia much, so I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place or not.

Anyway, in response to your inquiry, the section I "blanked" out was a straight (and irrelevant) paste from another Wikipedia entry for "Lohengrin." Information about Neuschwanstein that is interrupted by a big, run-on section regarding a mythical character does not make sense. What is your disagreement with this? Please advise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.241.240.30 (talkcontribs)

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.
Signed...

Hey Joe. Sadly, being a how-to guide is not a current criteria for speedy deletion. So I've tagged the article for proposed deletion instead. But keep up the good work! :) Proto||type 19:36, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

==Welcome to VandalProof== Thanks for your interest in VandalProof! You've been added to the list of authorized users, and feel free to contact me or post a message on VandalProof's talk page if you have any questions. AmiDaniel (Talk) 22:15, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This edit seems to have done nothing useful but completely killed the ASCII art. You probably should ignore whitespace in a <pre> and other such cases as it is there on purpose, be it a drawing, psuedocode, or otherwise. Kotepho 01:03, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the Johnny Warren thing. It was only a joke, I was going to revert it back. I wouldn't have kept it like that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.230.154.117 (talkcontribs)

I'll put it simply: don't do it again. Computerjoe's talk 11:33, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No I won't. I was just being silly. I see that it was a silly thing to do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.230.154.117 (talkcontribs)

Regarding a certain vandal

The "zomg User:Xtra is homophobic" vandal gets indefinitely blocked on sight as whatever IP he's using is almost certainly an open proxy. Many of the proxies he uses are poorly configured and result in \'\'\'backslashes\'\'\' being inserted into the page. If you see these kinds of edits, shoot first and ask questions later. — Apr. 9, '06 [11:54] <freakofnurxture|talk>

Ah, okay. I wasn't aware of a license to kill on this vandal! :P next time, it shall go to WP:AIV. Computerjoe's talk 11:56, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ContiE has impersonated me on other wikis

Hi, I'm in a potentially awkward position with an Administrator. I have read the Wiki pages on dispute resolution but I'm still not sure how to proceed.

The Admin ContiE has a personal grudge against me for reasons I do not fully understand. He has been this way since I began frequenting wikipedia.

I have done work improving the furvert article. He has basically gone on a crusade against any edit I make. He controls every furry category article and several others ruthlessly. He is an iron fist and bans anyone he edit wars with. I had uploaded pictures and he deleted them with no talking. He seems to believe I am every person he has had an edit war against. He is always using personal attacks, calling me troll without reason. I uploaded them again and he voted them for deleted, but to his surprise the person who runs the images, thank you Nv8200p, found they were acceptable once I tagged them properly. Just recently he removed both the images without himself discussing it in the talk page (unless he was the same person who discussed only one) with the edit here [1] Then ContiE assumed bad faith, added his constant insult of troll in the talk page. It appears on a completed different wiki, a comedy one in all things, somebody else stole my username and I believe this was Conti himself and uploaded them. ContiE showed it as his reason. While vandalism like his, I would revert and mention it, he would ban me permanently if I undid his edit. That is why I am asking admins for help. He holds a couple of accounts on wikipedia and I think they are administrators so I have to be careful who I tell about this. Arights 07:37, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edits

Sorry, accidently reverted your edits while using Vandal Proof (still has a few flaws in it). Hope you can understand, TBC??? ??? ??? 08:58, 10 April 2006 (UTC).[reply]

CJBot

Hey - A couple of things your bot is doing seem odd to me... It edited a link on a user page which, it seems to me, should be out of bounds. Also, in this instance the edit summary doesn't seem to match the edit. Overall good work! Just hoping you can tweak these issues. -SCEhardT 20:28, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hrm... it also doesn't seem like a good idea to change signed comments on talk pages. In some cases it completely changes the meaning of the comment, such as when talking about the name of the 'Splog' page. -SCEhardT 20:32, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's "neologism", not "neolagism", and the comment it left on Advance fee fraud was not relevant. Thanks. PizzaMargherita 21:08, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Splog" is a widely accepted word, see google. How many pages do we have to revert your "neologasm" stuff on? Jeez. · rodii · 21:39, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you actually checking these edits? Your change to Spam blog resulted in "Spam blogs, sometimes referred to by the neologism spam blogs", which is nonsensical. There is a difference between using a neologism--marked as such--in the text of an article and having it as the title of an article. And you shouldn't, I think, be changing comments on talk pages, user pages, templates or archived refdesk pages. Can you refine this a bit? · rodii · 21:49, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree completely - this bot needs some changes before running again. Edits should only be made to article space and certain Wikipedia space (not archived discussions). Also, there needs to be a way to filter out web links since those don't take kindly to being 'corrected'. Don't get discouraged but please do make some changes to the bot before running it again. -SCEhardT 22:08, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That'll be hard. I could take it off automatic, but that would create hours of labour on mypart. I could tell it to skip articles containing .(term); but that wouldn't be perfect. I think my bot has pretty much failed and probably should be blocked. Computerjoe's talk 08:42, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And more generally, is it a good idea to have a bot replace a neologism when we already have an article on that? Shouldn't the author check that first? And I would go even further: what's wrong with neologisms? If we don't have an article, it simply means that we don't have an article yet. Please be more careful and ask around if it's a good idea before unleashing your bots next time. PizzaMargherita 06:34, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

United Nations Commission on Human Rights

I just wanted to thank you for your vote on the poll on the talk page of United Nations Commission on Human Rights. It very simply explained the reasons behind my objection, and I was afraid I couldn't put it into words. Staxringold 00:21, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moderator Bug

The problem with the welcome button is one I was already aware of, and I've actually just identified and repaired the bug that caused the page-blanking problem, which will no longer exist in the next release (likely on Saturday). AmiDaniel (Talk) 22:52, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Barnstar

Thanks!!! Yet another barnstar, and both within twenty minutes of each other. I assume this barnstar is intended preemptively, as VP is not yet "the best ever tool to fight vandals," but hopefully, and with your help as a moderator, it will be someday! AMA request

Hi. I wanted your input on a WP:CIVIL issue, thinking that you'd be a good party to ask, given your interest in AMA and CJ. It involves a post I've made to WP:AN/I concerning the deletion of edited comments on a user talk page; taking a look over it should be sufficient explanation, so I won't repeat the details here.

I'm still waiting on a response by an admin at AN/I, but would appreciate the opinion of an outside party in the meantime. If you've got a minute, lemme know your take on it. Thanks. Tijuana Brass 05:28, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Taken care of now, no need to check it out. Cheers. Tijuana Brass 18:26, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. AmiDaniel (Talk) 06:43, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Community Justice Council

Hey Computerjoe! This is just a note to express my interest in becoming part of the first council for WP:CJ. I saw your request asking for those interested to leave a note on your talk page so that is what I am doing. --Randy Johnston 16:19, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalproof

Thanks for clearing up how that works. My main reason for wanting the software is so that I can stop having to revert vandalism simply through patroling Recent Changes. Anyway, I saved the article on Shah Mahmoud Hanifi from deletion making the neccesary contribs discussed in its AfD. I've also done extensive revision to the National Security Archive article and created the article for the The George C. Marshall Foundation [2] - I'm the only editor who has even contributed to that article. I also updated articles relating to it so that they pointed to that article. [3] [4]. Please see the article histories for those articles since I made many edits to them over a period of time and they would still come up in the recent edits of those articles. I cleaned up POV in the Fred Carama article eventhough I was voting for its deletion. [5]. I standardized and removed unencyclopedic material as well as POV from the Diane Kunz article. [6] [7] [8]. I added a section to cover the media coverage controversy to the Matthew Shepard article. [9]. I assisted in standardizing the article on Robert Frager [10]. I removed POV from the Jesse Dirkhising article. [11] [12]. I cleaned up the article on the Media Research Center by deleting uncited material. [13]. I have also created the article American Institute of Afghanistan Studies.

Those are some of my contributions. Many of my other edits have been in AfD's and adding neccesary tags & citation requests. --Strothra 17:10, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Be careful when using VandalProof on pages with ampersands

When you cleaned up bad edits on the Ratchet & Clank 3 page, it overwrote the Ratchet page. I think it had to do with an unencoded "&" going into the URL. --Unregistered user.

Actually, I don't think it was VandalProof. It is much more likely to be User:Cynical's AWB cleanup. Computerjoe's talk 13:59, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
