Rowdy Rathore is a Bollywood action thriller film directed by Prabhu Deva and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ronnie Screwvala. The film features Akshay Kumar in double role opposite Sonakshi Sinha. It began filming on 10 August 2011, and is scheduled for release on 1 June 2012. This film is a remake of the Telugu film Vikramarkudu.[2] It will mark the return of Akshay Kumar in the action genre after 7 years.[3]
Plot
The story is about Shiva (Akshay Kumar), a small comman who charms every ladies heart in a blink. Shiva falls in love with Priya (Sonakshi Sinha), a pretty and smart girl whom he met at a wedding he wasn’t invited to. Into this picture perfect world enters six year old Neha who inexplicably believes Shiva to be her father. The further movie deals with what changes and responsibilities does this little girl brings to his life and how he becomes the only hope for people of a small town in bihar to get rid of their ruthless MLA and his mafia goons.

Promotion
The trailer of the film was launched in an open stadium in Worli on 2 April 2012[6], and received over 2,295,756 views in just under one month on YouTube[7]
UTV has tied up with radio partner 93.5 RED FM for organizing a contest "Rowdy Hunt" to look for social do-gooders and others who work towards social betterment - winners of which will accompany lead star Akshay Kumar to promote the film during his tours. The hunt will take place in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai and New Delhi, where callers will be invited to share their grievances, and tackle the culprit on a public platform in true "Rowdy" style. The RJ/host will then select 5 rowdies in each city based on a "Rowdy Meter" who will then comprise Akshay Kumar's Rowdy Gang in a particular city[8].
Cast and crew went to Dubai as part of promotional tour[9].
Sonakshi Sinha promoted the film on Big 92.7 FM. And on the 26 May Sonakshi Sinha came to promote the film on Dance India Dance Lil' Masters on Zee Tv and the Zee Network are giving out free cinema tickets to people who are correct in the Safari Cinema. sonakshi sinha's role was rewritten. [10].
Wardrobe company Dollar industries has tiedup with the film to promote their products[11]
Soundtrack
The soundtrack is by Sajid-Wajid and was released 25 April. The line "Chinta Ta Ta Ta" and part of its music has been borrowed from the original song of its Telugu version which was confirmed by Wajid himself.[12] Kumar Sanu, Ajay Mondal, Sonu Saxsena & Chandan Sharma had sung a song for this film making his comeback after 5 years.[13]

Production
The filming started on 10 August 2011. The lead actor Akshay Kumar learnt a special technique Combat Karate for his character role in the film.[14] Kumar reported that he had accepted the role in Rowdy Rathore since his son loves to watch him in action roles[15]. This is Sanjay Leela Bhansalis's first film as a solo producer and first in action genre.[16] Maryam Zakaria was selected to perform an item number."[5] Popular Tamil actor Vijay was selected to appear in "Chinta Ta" song, making his debut in Bollywood,[4] Prabhudeva himself appeared in the song.[17] Kareena Kapoor did a friendly appearence[18]
During the shooting, while shooting for a climax scene Akshay hurt his shoulder.[19]
The police denied permission for shooting of Rowdy Rathore at the World Heritage Site Hampi, following protests from local activists and artists. The film unit consisting of director Prabhu Deva, actors Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and 50 other dancers left the site on Tuesday, authorities issued directions to the film crew to stop shooting with immediate effect following violations of ASI conservation rules and for tranquillity. Local people and artists opposed shooting of a song sequence, featuring Akshay and Sonakshi, along with many dancers, scheduled to be shot at several heritage sites including the Vijaya Vittala temple, Lotus Mahal, Maha Navami Dibba and several other historic places in 15th century capital of Vijayanagar Empire.[20]
Release
The film's satellite rights was sold for ₹35 crore (US$4.2 million).[21]
