Why Are Almost All These Terms On The Previous Page Capitalized? Is That What People In Medical Professions Do--Capitalize Everything? --KQ

They are capitalized because they are Proper Nouns, as well as being capitalized in the DSM-IV.

TextPad is great for this sort of letter-crunching. But now some of the links are broken. I'm moving pages with Capitalized Names. Here's the old list to compare:

I am sure some of these illnesses in the list are not in fact a type of mental illness. What do you think of this claim of mine? If you agree, which ones should be deleated from the list?

Homosexual

Should homosexuality really be labled as a mental illness. Personally, I believe this is true. Although, this is Wikipedia and we need a debate about this.

The article includes the title "as defined by the DSM and ICD". It's fair to use those as guides. As I understand it, netiher of those documents (in modern days) considers homosexuality to be a mental illness. Ergo, it should go. --Joe Decker (talk) 05:20, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Phobias

"Mental disorder" versus "mental illness"

Question: starting with its very title, DSM-IV names almost everything in it as a "disorder," and there are few, if any references to "mental illness." ICD-9 also refers to "mental disorders," broken down into psychotic and non-psychotic types. Why are we using the terminology of "illness" rather than "disorder," when that is what the diagnostic manuals themselves use? Poindexter Propellerhead 23:57, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DSM

The illnesses as classified by the DSM should be removed or moved to separate list as this does not present a globalised view of the topic. The ICD, part of the WHO, is an international list and should be used solely for this page. The title should then also be changed. McLerristarr (Mclay1) (talk) 23:37, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You could ask him, or request a move back to List of mental disorders as defined by the DSM and ICD. Subtypes? NOS?

I was editing the list today and I noticed that some of the listed disorders are not actually full disorders, but subtypes (example: ADD, catatonic schizophrenia). There are also some NOS diagnoses (EDNOS). Is this list intended to include all the subtype/NOS diagnoses in the DSM? I'm willing to go through and add things, I just wanted some consensus first.

Also, there's some things on the list such as BED, which is I don't believe has an ICD or DSM diagnosis apart from EDNOS. There's also perfectionism, which I haven't been able to find any sources for stating that it's a disorder (only that it's a trait that can lead to disorders). And bibliomania?
