Delete

I nominated this article for deletion. Not because the subject is not notable, he clearly is. But because the article is poorly written and most of it was copied word for word from the two sources, The Bangkok Post and Forbes. If somebody wants to clean up the article and reword things so we are using the sources as sources and not just copying them (which is against the law) - then I would be willing to withdraw my objection that this article be included on Wikipedia. DegenFarang (talk) 15:22, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An article requiring cleanup is NOT a reason to delete an article. Notability is determined by the existence of outside sources. When you consider this man's death made the world news, keeping it was the right decision.Ryoung122 21:40, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As DegenFarang clearly noted, in 2010 the question was not notability but that most of the article had been copied and pasted straight from other sources out of copyright. It seems the article was stripped back and rebuilt from then. Span (talk) 22:32, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Date of Birth

This article states the DOB as being in 1923 but the cited articles state ages that suggest the date of birth would be ~10 years later than this. The Bangkok Post says he was born in 1932. Webcitation says he was 80 which again would suggest 1932. Forbes says 77 but was publisted in 2009.

Looks like the Bangkok news article was updated as I wrote this, the body text now states he died aged 80. The AP article cited later in this page also notes the discrepancy: NPR

It seems to me that it is presently unclear as to exactly what year Chaleo was born, but this page is reporting it as 1923 without noting the discrepancy at all. 66.187.233.202 (talk) 16:50, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is certainly unclarity about his birthdate, it seems. As well as NPR (noted above),The New York Times notes that three dates have been put forward by different sources: "The Nation, a Thai newspaper, reported that he was 90, while several other news media outlets in Thailand said he was 88. Forbes recently put his age at 80." The BBC also acknowledge the lack of solid sources: "Mr Chaleo was born of poor Chinese immigrant parents in the northern province of Phichit, reportedly in 1932, local media say". The Australian and Time say he was 89. The Telegraph and The Independent say 1923. It's not so unusual. I will include a note in the article to this effect. Thanks for flagging it up. /* Family */ grandson Vorayuth Yoovidhya

Let's not remove this without first reaching a consensus; it may not shake the whole world, but special privileges afforded the offspring of the hyper-rich do shake up this part of it, in the extraordinarily rare cases when it has been exposed. --Pawyilee (talk) 06:13, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Thailand#Bloated_section_in_the_Chaleo_Yoovidhya_article has a suggestion for creating Killing of Wichian Klanprasert by Vorayuth Yoovidhya. Any other suggestions other than ignoring it entirely? See news results for Vorayuth Yoovidhya at Yahoo! --Pawyilee (talk) 13:48, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
He is being investigated for his suspected involvment in a traffic death, and suspected involvment in an attempt of having a Yoovidhya clan employee take the rap. What "special privilege" do you have in mind for mention in that section of the article? If family members are extremely wealthy, then consider writing that family member X is ranked as Thailand's 20th or 50th wealthiest ...
Does Vorayuth Yoovidhya qualify for an article of his own? Was he notably mentioned in media prior to the policeman's death? --Lucabrak (talk) 08:52, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. When he's mentioned, it is as a Red Bull heir. For instance: Bangkok Pundit (September 6, 2012). "Suspended sentence, impunity, the police, and the Thai judicial system" (News analysis; comments off). Asian Correspondent. Bristol, England: Hybrid News Limited. Retrieved September 7, 2012. As you all already likely know, the grandson of the original founder of the Red Bull energy drink is alleged* to have killed a police officer in a hit-and-run accident in the very early hours of Monday morning.--Pawyilee (talk) 16:56, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
BP faults the Judiciary of Thailand... The Asian Human Rights Commission called the Thai legal system a "mess" ...--Pawyilee (talk) 17:08, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please just split the content about his nephew into a separate article. What is clear is that it isn't relevant to this article. It isn't really necessary to arrive at the correct title of the article right away; it can be changed (or AfD'ed) later. --Paul_012 (talk) 17:22, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Death of Wichian Klanprasert --Lucabrak (talk) 12:11, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Background now contains the two-line, two-footnote version of the story. Couldn't think of a new heading, but reworded the entry to put co-ownership first, then a single line about the case; removed the redlink, as the essentials up to date are covered in the footnotes. Further developments can go in the new article; however, the old one needs a new subheading. --Pawyilee (talk) 06:12, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Family ownership" of Ferrari dealership

To my knowledge "the Yoovidhya family" does not own a Ferrari dealership in an encyclopedic sense or legal sense. If Chaleo had a stake in such a dealership then that could maybe be mentioned.

Naming of family members who inherited that stake from him, could maybe be mentioned.

I don't think other family members ownership in Ferrari should be mentioned, unless there is a clear link to Chaleo. --Lucabrak (talk) 11:08, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
