Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange (Chinese: 兀兰区域巴士转换站; pinyin: Wùlán qūyù bāshì zhuǎnhuànzhàn) was completed and opened along with the Woodlands extension of the North South Line in 1996. It is the first underground bus interchange, and one of the biggest in Singapore. The old Woodlands Bus Interchange was converted into a terminus for people leaving Singapore, as well as for Woodlands intra-town services that are serving the old town centre there. Later, it was deemed obsolete and ceased operations.

Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange was the first underground interchange in Singapore to accommodate articulated buses and located below Woodlands. It used to be the 3rd biggest bus interchange in terms of bus services but because more bus services was introduced, it is up to par with Bedok Bus Interchange, sharing the 2nd biggest bus interchange position which at present have 30 bus services each. The interchange is propriated by SMRT Buses.

Inside the interchange

Woodlands Regional Interchange has a unique orientation as it is divided into two sides, depending on which direction it will depart. Bus Services between Berths 1 to 8 will depart towards Woodlands Avenue 7 whereas bus services between Berths 9 to 16 will depart towards Woodlands Avenue 3. But, although SBS Transit bus services 161 and 168 departs towards Woodlands Avenue 7, they are located in Berths 15 and 16 due to space constraint.

Bus & train services guide

In order to complement its public transport services, SMRT Buses developed the Woodlands Town Map & Services Guide, which is a made available free to its commuters. The guide provides route details of all bus services that originate from Woodlands Interchange, as well as MRT services, so that it is more convenient for commuters to plan their journeys using the public transport network. Significant landmarks, places of interest as well as major needs served by the buses are all included, and a destination finder is placed alongside the map to further simplify journey planning for the commuters.
