Rugby union in Honduras is a minor, but growing sport.

History

2010 - Present

According to the World Bank, the population of Honduras is 7,754,687.

The first activity toward the starting of any team on Honduras was the creation of the Rugby Honduras website in 2010 and some groups on the Facebook social networking web site. The first two teams started physical training in 2012.

Tegucigalpa

The club in Tegucigalpa was formed in mid 2012 by a group of students including Steewart Boss, David Molina and Jorge Alvarado and trains at Villa Olimpica in Tegucigalpa.

La Esperanza

La Esperanza Rugby Club was formed in mid 2012 by Northern Irishman John McCourt when he moved to the town. They were the first club in Honduras to have rugby posts on their pitch suitable for kicking conversions and penalties. John McCourt is also the founder of the Rugby Honduras website which he started in 2010 when he discovered that there was no national league or team in Honduras.

The two teams are yet to have a match against each other.
