Repertoire of Plácido Domingo
Perhaps the most versatile of all living tenors, Domingo has sung 128 opera roles and as many as 140 roles (overall) in Italian, French, German, English, Spanish and Russian.[1] His main repertoire however is Italian (Otello, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Don Carlo, Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut, Dick Johnson in La fanciulla del West, Radames in Aida), French (Faust, Werther, Don José in Carmen, Samson in Samson et Dalila), and German (Lohengrin, Parsifal, and Siegmund in Die Walküre).
He continues to add more operas to his repertoire, some of latest of which include the title role (baritone) in Verdi's Rigoletto in August 2010 at Reignwood Theatre and Neruda in Catán's Il Postino in September 2010 at the Los Angeles Opera. On New Year's Eve 2011, he created the role of the god Neptune in the original baroque pastiche The Enchanted Island at the MET, his 138th role. In March 2012, he sang for the first time the baritone role of the Cenobite monk Athanaël in Massenet's Thaïs, his 139th role, and he added the 140th by singing another baritone role, that of Francesco Foscari, in Verdi's I due Foscari on 15 September 2012.
